  1. http://www.areteem.org/courses/live-course-schedule Physics at the bottom pretty darn expensive if you take all four quarter terms
  2. "If your child took the PSAT/NMSQT® in October 2016, they'll be able to access their scores online on December 12"
  3. I looked at the WTMA syllabus since my DS used Saxon Geo at his B&M charter school. The course covers all the book lessons so this looks like a nice fast paced class which a good teacher can handle. Not a lot of proofs, this book uses the newer style for Geometry.
  4. Yes it would be nice to see more AP online courses rated such as this one: http://blog.prepscholar.com/best-online-ap-courses-reviewed I wonder where the article author found the student feedback for each one.
  5. My question was not really why outsource an AP class - which your statements above fully support and I totally agree with My question was about paying the high price for "guided instruction" versus a real online course (asynch or synch). It seems you can get "guided instruction" such as from UC Scout Premium (maybe others as well ) for considerably less money. (I have never used any of these.) http://www.ucscout.org/plans

  7. Why are parents willing to fork over $700 for self-guided study with grading? PAH has created quite the "brand-name" I guess.
  8. If campus / environment is an important factor it is worth stopping at each school - you don't necessarily need the official tour to get a feel - hopefully the colleges won't be on break at the same time You're routing is pretty good SUNY Albany, up I-87 for Siena, then across route 7 to Schenectady for Union - you could easily do this in one day with an early start It's been a while since I have been to the other areas enjoy
  9. see http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/561428-how-good-are-the-ap-classes-at-gvl/
  10. Awesome opportunity. It will look great as an extracurricular. Depending on the text they use she may want to purchase a paperback designed as a tutorial or for tutors. I have seen posts here in the past.
  11. You could ask here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MathWithoutBorders/info https://mathwithoutborders.com/
  12. Do an AP level/ College level course without taking the CB exam (you could use some AP study guides to create your final). It sounds like your student is ready to step it up a notch. I believe Thinkwell has something you could use. You could call it Honors Chem on your transcript. see http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/tags/forums/ap%2Bchemistry/
  13. University of AZ charges differential tuition
  14. You could probably knock enough credits for the first year (part-time along with your DE) and still apply as a Freshman. Be sure to find out what the maximum amount of credits you can have and still remain Freshman status. Strategy - Apply to the four year schools to see what merit aid you can get and use the transfer approach if the merit aid doesn't pan out. What are the cost differentials between NYS CC and the four year SUNY schools these days? (Here in AZ, the CC are way cheaper so unless you get significant merit aid the CC approach will save on total cost.)
  15. The "Last of the Mohicans".is a classic and a middle school boy would certainly enjoy it. It is also good to expose students to a different prose style from early America. Some of the 'Native Americans ' are the story heroes so not sure why that is bad. Masterpiece Theater/BBC had a TV series on this back in the 1970s - I really enjoyed it. You may want to find that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_of_the_Mohicans_(1971_series)
  16. oops sorry I thought you were looking for middle school advice
  17. A 9 is not "typical" - I believe a 5 or so is the average score - the Greatschool scores are data driven around test scores and not necessarily the best way to judge the school. You have to read the "Review comments" to get a feel about the institution. My son's current charter is GS rated at 9 but I would give it maybe 7 out of 10.
  18. I don't think HS has "W" especially if you sub for a similar/equivalent course Obviously you need to contact the B&M school to see what is doable and the process
  19. Marks-a-Lot seems to be quite good https://www.walmart.com/ip/Marks-A-Lot-Pen-Style-Whiteboard-Markers-24pk/14917765
  20. I have heard this before about some PS online classes. Why torture the student? You need to have a heart to heart with your student. Maybe a simple after-schooling program once a week as a supplement (for literature, or whatever) could be a possibility. Pulling your student seems like a big mistake. On friends, reinforce your concerns about bad people.
  21. "Would weighted GPAs create unhealthy focus in high schools?" Yes AP and honor classes are harder and should be weighted - everyone does not get a trophy - welcome to the real world A scam is when a person graduates as the valedictorian without challenging themselves - happened at my nephew's school a few years back - non weighted GPAs
  22. NAU is a pretty solid school overall - I am pretty sure anything related to Astronomy would be rated good or better Off campus housing would be fairly expensive - Flagstaff is a pretty tight real estate market
