  1. My middle child is my pickiest eater, but he’s mostly picky about fruits. Citrus, pears, peaches, pineapple, and things like that he won’t touch. I’m not sure if it’s a flavor or texture thing. But offer the kid some tomatoes and he’s happy as a clam. I can’t figure him out!
  2. Lots if airlines sell flights by one way. We always fly Sun Country and choose each flight separately. Is that an option for you?
  3. With no fever, I’d say you can return whenever you’re feeling well enough to participate.
  4. We went to see it and really enjoyed it. While there were many things that were very different from the book, we thought it followed the spirit of the book. A few things bugged me (Oprah’s character especially), in general I really liked the producer’s interpretations. I will I’ll add that we read the book about a year ago, so many details weren’t fresh in our minds when we went to the movie. We also went in with open minds. We knew this was a modern interpretation of the book, not meant to copy it exactly.
  5. See, for us we couldn’t stick with ELTL. It felt dull and uninteresting. TGTB has been great. While I don’t love everything about it, it gets done. My attention span apparently isn’t great, so I don’t mind at all that it skips around so much. It also keeps things interesting for my kids. My daughter is almost done with level 4 (she says she loves it) and my son is just finishing level 2.
  6. McClosky books like One Morning in Main are at a higher reading level as well.
  7. Thanks everyone! I picked a couple and added a letter to her at the beginning of the journal. I think she’s going to love it!
  8. My daughter is turning ten in a few days and I’m giving her a commonplace book and book darts. I’d like to write a quote about books in the front but I’m having a hard time coming up with one. What are your favorite quotes about books (preferably by a children’s author)? Thanks!
  9. Tri tip sandwiches tonight. Pesto pasta with chicken sausage tomorrow. Bean and cheese burritos on Wednesday. Carnitas tacos on Thursday.
  10. OR keep your school things at home and don’t do much book work while you’re gone for six months. maybe there are some inexpensive books you could get to ship ahead of time, or while you’re gone do work on tablets. Sounds like traveling could be quite the educational experience. There’s got to be a cheap and easy way to get some math practice in without needing to bring all your usual things.
  11. I recommend Chaco sandals for cool feet that will be walking a lot. My feet suffocate in Keens. Teva might also be a good option. But, as always, get them early so his feet can get used to them.
  12. Maybe a Mother Goose book? We like the one by Scott Gustafson.
  13. Birds Every Child Should Know is another older book that we enjoyed.
  14. CLE is great because the pages aren’t all cluttered up. I think you should reconsider. If you really think it’s too much work for each lesson then you can cross out some of the problems.
  15. I melted chap stick on a clothes load in college. I believe I found directions on the crayola website that used wd40 and dawn dish soap.
  16. For us, it’s CLE for math and The Good and The Beautiful for language arts. I don’t love every single thing about TG&TB, but the fact that it gets done is huge. Also, this year we’re doing a weekly science coop with friends which is ensuring that science gets done. And, as mentioned by pp, the habit of reading for an hour every afternoon and after I put them to bed if they’re not tired enough to sleep has given them the time to log many many hours of reading.
  17. My friend has a little guy who has had severe eczema. After eliminating gluten his skin has been perfect. I think her older son also had some eczema. For him the solution was to be dairy free. I’d pick one and try.
  18. I do agree that it’s worth it to try for a month. I just found that with the ages of my kids at the time (1-7) they didn’t get much out of it except a couple author interviews my oldest watched with me. I think in a year or two I’ll try it again.
  19. I had a membership for about six months as well and agree almost completely with the previous poster.
  20. We call it “egg in a hole.†Creative, huh? 😂
  21. Just wanted to add that our bedroom is right off the main living area of our small house. We have a blackout shade AND blackout curtains on the window. DH uses a white noise machine AND fan to block out our noise. And he usually takes a melatonin supplement when he’s switching to nights. He’s a pretty hard sleeper but all these things are necessary for him to get the sleep he needs. Also, when he’s on days he can usually get by with 6 hours of sleep. On nights he needs at least 7.
  22. My DH works 12 hour shifts and they switch between days and nights every three months or so. The kids and I don’t change our schedules. When he’s working a stretch of 5-9 nights in a row we pretty much just plan to not really see him, since he’s gone for 14 hours at a time and sleeping when he’s home. When he has four or five days off we try to maximize daddy time. I can’t imagine shifting our awake times to match DH. Everything we do on a daily or weekly basis is during the day. Feel free to message me if you want to hash this out more!
  23. It should be fine. The steam will be released when the pressure releases.
  24. Im not the one who you quoted, but we also have pillows like these. We got ours from Costco several years ago for around $10 for two pillows. We’ve been extremely happy with them. Some are more full than others but none have noticeably lost their fullness.
