  1. Improperly done repairs can be as destructive to books as the initial damage. I would allow a wet book to dry but not attempt any further repairs.
  2. I wonder if some of the older cooking techniques for vegetables was a result of the varieties of vegetables grown and used. My mother had a large garden and, for example, I remember the green beans, i.e. ‘string beans’, being fuzzier and stringier than beans I buy now. She always home canned them, we did not eat them fresh. The processing did change the flavor but made them tender. I’m not convinced that everyone cooked the way they did because they we too dumb to know how to prepare foods ‘properly ‘.
  3. I guess I’m okay with any as long as I’m not considered a Female Dog Mom (although sometimes that’s fine, too).
  4. At that aged I loved the 1960s beach party movies, especially Beach Blanket Bingo. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beach_party_film
  5. And congratulations to Winston Peters who will be PM for 6 weeks in spite of losing his electorate in the general election and having a party vote percentage of 7.2%. The Labour/NZ First coalition struck me as odd when it was announced. We will see how it works in practice.
  6. I don’t think it is useful to imply the ONLY reason for volunteer work is direct personal contact. That is effectively saying that volunteer work is only for extroverts. How about the individual who enjoys performing tasks/working with objects/ doing administrative work? Organizations also need those kinds of tasks done.
  7. In 1969 Reagan was already Governor of California.
  8. I saw this ad and thought it was great https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hNtt4aZWkF0
  9. I am always slightly shocked at the ageism that comes out in this and other tattoo threads. Not the simple statement that older skin wrinkles and that can change the look of a tattoo, but that older skin is necessarily ugly and that older people don’t care about their looks and have given up (and good thing, too because it’s just hopeless anyway). I think that that is one attitude that may change over time. Just for the record, in general I dislike tattoos and would not pay, but the situation has never come up in my family.
  10. I have had an acrylic lift and water get under and a fungal nail infection start. I was getting regular fills (every 2.5-3 weeks) and the fungus was easily treated and stopped but the nail discoloration remains until it grows out. The fact that it happened more than once was one of the reasons I decided to discontinue acrylics. I also did not like the thicker nail feel and function. I get shellac polish now and it lasts about the same length of time. I like the feel better and do not have the fungal problems but it does not do as good a job protecting my nails from breaks and side splits and the maintenance cost is higher. Oh well, I guess everything has its compromises! ETA: I always used regular polish when I had acrylics and it lasted fine without chipping. The regular polish helped keep down the cost of the fills. On my natural nails regular polish always started to chip in one day.
  11. Any of the churches listed here should fit that criteria. http://www.naparc.org/member-churches/
  12. The last two times I have gotten a pomegranate more than half of the inside has been black and mushy. I assume that means it has gotten overripe? Any hints how to avoid that in the future?

  19. But you CAN have diluted juice. It just has to be diluted with still water, not carbonated. Because...reasons.
  20. We just sliced about 1/2"-3/4" thick and grilled, about 6 minutes per side. I seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder but just s&up would be fine. ETA: Forgot to say that I brushed with olive oil before seasoning.
