  1. I did not want either a high school or college class ring. My mom did give me a nice ring instead in high school. Dh has both, high school and college. He wore his high school one until he went away to college & stored it since then. He still wears his college ring. Oldest ds changed high schools his junior year. (from NY to IL) New high school has a ring ceremony, very loosely based on West Point's ring ceremony. Few weeks into new school and he needed a ring or something to be presented at the ceremony. Quickly resized and cleaned dh's high school ring & he wore that ring. (the nice thing is that Dh graduated from the school that kids' high school based a lot of their organization from, so a little bit of a tie in, or so I told my oldest ds. previous high school does not make a big deal about class rings. we would not have done rings if we stayed there.) Dd will be given a nice ring at her ring ceremony. Youngest ds, don't know. He does not want his dad's high school ring, especially since his oldest brother wore it. Dh is not about to give up his West Point/college ring (which youngest ds would like to have.)
  2. (( )) x a really big number!!! I haven't been in your situation, my oldest chose a school much closer to home, but I still feel many of those feelings. More and more (( ))!
  3. "liked" her picture. Is a really cute do. My youngest dd luvs fishtails.
  4. I like everything mentioned up to this point in this thread. In fact, I like some of the foods quite a bit. But, I cannot stand ..... chocolate. I try & try but just don't enjoy. :leaving:

  6. :grouphug: Praying for your family.
  7. The LEO I am aware of are trained in de-escalation tactics, among many other things. I think it is demonstrated in many, many ways. If the law enforcement where you live are not, it seems reasonable to question why not and lobby for it to be included. Out of curiosity, are you in a more rural area, or area that does not have a comprehensive police training opportunity? Police officers not knowing how to utilize de-escalation tactics seems somewhat alarming, both for the public and even the LEO.
  8. I am a Mia. Pretty name but not really me. Not overly fond of my name either. Liked my 1910 name, Elizabeth and my 1890 name, Minnie.
  9. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the side effects of some thyroid medicine includes hair loss. I experienced hair loss on Synthroid, but not with Armour. Though some people report hair loss on Armour also. Good luck with finding the cause!
  10. It is a good thing I did not ask the hive before I put my oldest dc in brick & mortar schools ... lol. My oldest entered brick & mortar public middle school in 7th grade and he did well. He also thinks he did fine. We both found that b&m school was easier in terms of academic than homeschool. He made friends, joined the tennis team & was elected to student council all in the first month. (we did move to a different state in April of that year & finished the school yr via homeschool again, until the start of 8th grade.) My youngest ds entered a small, private classical academy in 7th grade. He did well also. He found the school to be more challenging academically than homeschool, but did fine. He continued playing hockey and also joined the school's rowing team, participated in math team & middle school musical. He made some very good friends and has continued some of the friendships even though we have relocated once again. For my oldest ds, entering 8th grade in a new state/city was more difficult. The public middle school (same size as previous one) was more cliquish, including teachers, counselors, adm, ... After 1 week we switched him to the Catholic school & he had no problems. (just mentioning that we switched schools ... don't think the fact that it was a Catholic school in particular had anything to do with it)
  11. My dh has job hopped quite a bit (last job change was 3 weeks ago) and almost all jobs have been in a different state, and often a new part of the country. He is in supply chain (until last move, all companies have been distressed & he was brought in by the investors.) Anyway, his experience has been different than imagine.more. His address has not been on his resume for quite a while, just his cell. He has not found companies reluctant to hire a non-local BUT he has never looked for a position in a particular location; we have always been open to where the job is, so ... much different scenario. Imagine.more's tip # 3 is so true!!! My dh has used LinkedIn quite a bit. I am fond of searching Indeed and Ladders, but his last job was a networking thing. Just as a side note, if you haven't already, look at some resumes in his field ... resume formats have changed a bit. Good luck!
