Putting “homeschool parent” as job on a resume??
LAS in LA replied to Garga's topic in The Chat Board
I would (and did) put "Homeschool Tutor" on my resume. It's one of the things I've been doing for the last 12 years and I'm proud of that work. I also described the position (researching, organizing, and implementing curricula for three students). During the job interview, I had the uncanny feeling that everything I'd been doing at home was training for this job; the interviewers asked about multitasking (ha!), interacting with unhappy individuals, and keeping volunteers on task, as well as my familiarity with children's literature and what I'd do if I saw a 2-yr-old running towards the stairs. (It's a job at the library). OP - I'd definitely draw the lines between what you've been doing with curricula at home and how that overlaps with the position. Best wishes! -
How did you get rid of the homeschool stuff/books?

Anyone else saving a few things for the grandkids? It’ll be a few years, but the R&S grammar books and some other things (the Cuisenaire rods for sure!) will be sticking around. -
I forgo my mask! It was like those nightmares where you are naked!

This was me with DS . . . In CVS!!! 😂 -
Currently planning to have generous (possibly masked) friends 😁 serve the food. So no shared serving utensils. Or have pre-portioned food for people to pick up. Food isn’t a spreader, so this isn’t a big concern for me. This thread is helping me think through some logistics! Thanks for starting it!

Our state restrictions are currently at 100 people outdoors. Not sure what they’ll be in June, but we’re planning a party at the park with 50-100 people. Food served by friends (whom I haven’t asked yet 😁), short ceremony, and outdoor games. I assume that those uncomfortable with gatherings won’t come, which is fine. OP - do you know any farmers or country folks where you could gather in more privacy?

New to low-carb/keto and we really like this for breakfast: Line muffin tin wells with bulk sausage (1# for 12 wells). Beat together 6 eggs and some cream (1/4c?); season with salt and pepper or other seasoning. Pour into sausage cups. Top with shredded cheese (~1Tbsp/well). Bake at 350F for 20-30 minutes (until sausage is cooked and eggs are set; they will puff up and brown lightly). These can be made ahead and reheated.

Yikes. What were they planning to do when he showed up/ left home??? -
DD’s violin teacher is part of a quartet that plays video game music. They play for gaming conferences, etc. They’ve released multiple albums. (He’s also part of a regular symphony and he teaches). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvgDoNUM2jU All that to say: You never know where an obsession will lead! 😊

You could send some soup. www.abowlofgood.com This is a local business (to me) and they ship soup nationwide. See “send them a meal” at the bottom of the homepage. 🙂

What to look for in an outdoor trampoline?
LAS in LA replied to Teaching3bears's topic in The Chat Board
And I’d also assess the trampoline placement and what ideas it might inspire. Our teenage neighbors in IL used to jump out of their 2nd floor windows and off the garage roof onto the trampoline (before their parents got home from work). 😬 -

Covered springs and tall netting would be my requirements. -
Experiences instead of things also seems to be a trend in general gift-giving. Wonder if this might show up in wedding gifting, too. Money gifts would be consistent with that.

DH got shingles two years ago. It was mostly on his face, which we were told is less painful. He didn’t have much pain, but does have a cool scar above his eyebrow now. DS2 ( the one child we had vaccinated for cp) came down with cp after DH’s shingles. DS1 and DD (no cp vaccine) got it shortly thereafter. Everyone was miserable for awhile. Unfortunately, there are a few scars from picking scabs on faces. I had cp as a child and did not get shingles from DH; we didn’t distance from each other or anything. OP, hope your kids feel better soon!

Buffet shouldn’t be a problem if you have a masked server or two. -
I LOVE my new case!!! It’s the medium brown one. Took a while to arrive, but I’m really happy with the look and feel of it. First time I’ve ever bought a case! 😁 https://www.etsy.com/shop/FredoLeather ETA: No ring on the back, but maybe you could add one?

Mentioned above but worth repeating: show and tell your DH that you love him. Support him however you can. Job hunting can be more discouraging than losing a job, and (IME) he needs to feel that you love and respect him no matter what. Praying for you all!

First year Danish course?
LAS in LA replied to kristin0713's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Looks like Rosetta Stone discontinued Danish, but you could check Duolingo or similar. -
The shape of VHS boxes reminds me of those cardboard “bricks” that preschools used to have for kids to build with. Father-in-law used to carry his diabetic paraphernalia in a VHS case. Could a senior center use some of them?

Just got an email this week from College Board that DS would be receiving a message from HBCUs about applying. Thanks for the advance info! ETA: actually the email was from the Common App (not CB).
