  1. We also did AP Psychology using the Sonlight "workbook" and the recommended textbook (but purchased the latter on ebay). The program was really good IMO and DS got a 5 on the AP exam.
  2. . . . and make sure that the name on your child's College Board account is the same as the name on his or her PSAT answer form! DD used a nickname (short form of her given name) when she set up her online account, but she put her given name on the paper form on test day. We just got her PSAT score today, (they come out in December), after several emails and phone calls with the CB. They were finally able to merge the accounts (yay!), so we could see her score. Not a major problem in the scheme of things, but definitely a hassle.
  3. We have a diy upholstered headboard. I used fake (but tasteful!) leather material, cushions, and batting from Hobby Lobby over a wooden frame. Directions found on the internet. It's easy to clean/wipe off and I LOVE being able to sit against it in bed and read. The headboard is actually attached to the wall, not to the bed itself. Love the slipcover idea, too!
  4. G00gl3 does actually work pretty hard at not showing "adult" content in search results unless the search is very clearly seeking that kind of content. (I used to work for a G. subcontractor evaluating search results).
  5. Sure! If you wear beads and put on some Zydeco. 🙂
  6. I learned the term from a Central Louisiana newspaper, which is not NO, but still celebrates a lot of Mardi Gras. 😁 Photo below was one of several in an article titled "Happy Yardi Gras!" CENLA Mardi Gras is a bit more homemade.
  7. We chose hair and expressions to match each family member. 🙂
  8. Here's our family homeschool float from several years ago. This was a fun co-op project (a la pumpkin decorating or making Valentine mailboxes).
  9. Throw us some photos, please! 🙂
  10. I was in 3rd grade and stayed in from recess to work on a project. The teachers were talking quietly to each other. After recess, they took us to the large-group-instruction room and we watched the news. I remember the lights being turned off in our hallways. Having a teacher on board Challenger made the tragedy seem closer-to-home somehow.
  11. You might try looking at Waldorf-style books or websites. The Waldorf dolls are probably more than you want to do, but there are simple dolls made from scarves/fabric that could be perfect. See photo from Toymaking with Children by Freya Jaffka (sorry it's not a great photo but you get the idea).).
  12. Chicken pie - one with chicken, one with tofu. Make the filling (onions, carrots, celery, white sauce), put into two pie shells, add cooked chicken to one and tofu to the other, top crust, and bake.
  13. I remember Grandmother smearing some stuff called 'Musterol' on my chest to get rid of congestion. (It worked - and burned). The scent sounds very similar to your Dr. Singha's!
  14. It's not just you! I find myself giving DS random "life tips" and wishing that I'd done x,y,and z. Where did the time go??
  15. The Plague (Albert Camus) -- Plague, riots, lockdowns. Lots to identify with! Had always been intimidated by this one, but found it very readable. The Harry Potter series - Now I understand. 🙂 I was encouraged to try "impossible" things. Scotland Street series (McCall Smith) - Short chapters (easy to pick up for a few minutes), humanity in it's everyday beauty and hilarity.
  16. DS did Khan Academy. His KA account was linked to his College Board account and he received KA recommendations based on his PSAT scores. I think KA sent him reminders to practice (no mom-nagging required!!) and he also did several practice SATs. His SAT was 150 points higher than his 11th grade PSAT, so we were pretty happy with that.
  17. Mary, merry, and marry all sound the same when I say them (rhyme with very). Raised by central PA and western VA parents and I grew up in those places. Drives me crazy when worship song writers assume that "bury" sounds like "berry". 😂
  18. Any mixture of juices that he likes + club soda or flavored sparkling water? Here's a recipe like my Grandmother's "Red Racy Punch": 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate 1 can frozen lemonade concentrate 1/2 (64-oz) can cranberry juice 1/2 (46-oz) can pineapple juice 1 (5.5-oz) box red hots candies 1 cup water 2 (2-liter) bottles Sprite or ginger ale (or substitute lemon or lime flavored sparkling water) Dissolve the red hots in water over medium heat. Combine everything but the carbonated drink. Chill (or freeze in bundt pans). Pour in carbonated before serving. It's a nice festive color.
  19. It was very low-ability art!!😁 We just stuck the china pieces into the wet cement, deep enough for the edges to be covered (more or less). The picture frame pieces were grouted onto a foam frame cutout (wouldn't recommend this as it warped a bit; a wooden frame would be better).
  20. We embedded pieces of broken china, mosaic-style, in cement stepping stones for grandparent gifts when our kids were little. The kids' footprints were also included. The stepping stone forms can be found at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. ETA: I also made a picture frame with grout and china pieces.
  21. Can't decide whether I'm happier that the DJIA broke 30k or that the meme thread got to 45 pages. 🙂
  22. Does anyone else remember the Jon Schneider/Tom Wopat movie "Christmas Comes to Willow Creek"? They play estranged brothers (instead of Bo and Luke Duke). We watched it free on amazon and it's better than one might expect from a mid-80s made-for-tv Christmas special! Fairly predictable and with a strange plot twist, but funny, too, and the relationships seem realistic. Plus, a rendition of that classic song "Babies and Barstools Don't Mix". 🤣
  23. I love everyone's beautiful ornaments and decorations! Here's the (hopefully) funny ornament I made for the kids' collections this year. (That's a mask inside).
