PSAT score for NMS?
readwithem replied to Ann.without.an.e's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Scroll down to individual states' scores. The scores can vary by a point or two each year, but this will give you a feel for where your student stands compared to other test takers in your state. http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html -
Would this worry you? Update police involved
readwithem replied to Only me's topic in The Chat Board
Totally agree with getting local police involved. Colleges want to keep this kind of thing out of the media, but I would want LE involved TODAY. Also agree with your dd going to her room ONLY in the company of security or police. So sorry your dd is dealing with this and hope she can get through her finals okay. -
Have you encountered a unique gift? Post it here.

Does anyone have "mandatory" quiet time?
readwithem replied to sierramv1's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Yep. First there were naps, then room time, then quiet time, then read to yourself time. My college senior still craves read to ourselves time when she comes home :p -
any advice? wrong shipping address on order
readwithem replied to craftymama's topic in The Chat Board
I would send them an email - I've found them to be very quick to respond. -
I know two people who were killed because of street racing. Both were killed in December two years ago. One was a 16 year old boy going 80 MPH in a 45 zone. The other was the father of a 3rd grade girl at the school where I tutor. He was driving home from his job at the airport New Years Eve and got caught between two cars who were street racing. Most people here know that I tutor at an inner city classical school in the 11th poorest zip code in the country. I say that only to emphasize that this dear man (I had met him and knew he loved his daughter dearly) was trying to provide for his family and his only mistake was being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If you already owm Ticket to Ride (USA)
readwithem replied to fraidycat's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That's interesting about the difference in America vs. Europe. We only have Europe (which we LOVE) and I've looked at America on and off for several years - I had read the downside was the lack of stations (what you call depots?) but it was a great way to teach American geography. Sigh. In the end we have just played (and enjoyed) Europe :) -
I'm so glad it was a hit!! We also had an Apples evening, with ages 13 - 60+. I can't remember a time when we didn't have a fun time playing A to A :D And it seems to be the more the merrier - we once had 16 playing and it was so much fun. We have made a game out of saying the card describes the person who "won" that round - so last night my friend was feminine, flirtatious and fragile - none of which describes her at all. :)

Many of the Eric Carle books have a CD. You can also get the Little Bear and Frog and Toad books with a CD. -

readwithem replied to tammyw's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We love Settlers and Ticket to Ride here as well. You might try some of the Carcassone games. -

Here. They eloped so she could escape a pre-arranged marriage to a much older man.

Nope. Ephesians 2:8 By grace you have been saved through faith. Then there's common grace - Matt. 5:45 The rain falls on the just and the unjust..

Who wants to see my baby? :) Pictures in thread.
readwithem replied to aggieamy's topic in The Chat Board
Absolutely adorable. Wish I could smell his head through the computer screen!! Agreeing with use the receiving blankets and diapers. When you're done with the diapers, they make amazing dust cloths - I haven't diapered a baby in nearly 20 years but I still use those diapers to dust. -
I thought the movie could have been an hour longer and fleshed out some of the "inner" stuff - Haymitch's history, Katniss's internal struggles… but I thought the cinematography was amazing, and the acting was superb. Effie outdid herself in the costumes. Short sidetrack, I went to a preview Monday night which included all the red carpet stuff from Hollywood - we watched it "live" from the Hollywood premier, which meant it didn't start till 8:30pm here in Texas. It was fun seeing all the interviews, and all the other actors said how down to earth Jennifer Lawrence is. And she's cut her hair super short and dyed it blonde!

A lot would depend on location. I wouldn't do NYC in a million years because of their insane laws - tenants have all the rights and landlords have none.

You poor thing - you have my sympathy!! If I'm fighting a cold I'm miserable during landing. I've found that taking Sudafed about an hour before landing helps - but as mentioned above you have to get the strong (real) stuff from the pharmacist.

Hugs to all of you!! I think the main thing to focus on is getting him healthy. It sounds like he is on the right track toward that. I like the idea of dropping the online classes and doing his coursework at home. My dd continued doing coursework during the summer before she started college, and that was without the health issues you're facing. Another option would be for him to continue with his applications, accept at a school, and take a gap year - most schools will defer scholarships with the enrollment deferral. And I'll pray for all of you to have wisdom, grace and peace.

The thing with Apples is there is NO "right" answer - the right answer is the one the "judge" picks! My dh usually goes for sarcasm and he wins all the time. Sometimes it's the irony of the response. Everybody has 7 cards to choose from for each turn - so even if there's a card or two in your hand that you don't know, you can just not play that one. And we've learned to NOT play pop culture cards with the younger set (or in your case, the older set). We love playing Apples and it's ALWAYS a hit. The only time it doesn't work very well is when you have only a few people playing.

What is the best prep for AP English?
readwithem replied to Jonibee's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
NOTE that the OP is 2 years old - I feel sure Jonibee has found a solution for her student. :D Maybe she'll report back on what her student used. -
Apples to Apples. It's more fun with more people. Could your parents bring some folding chairs? Or could some people eat on the couch?
