  1. Shoot, I voted before I read your situation. After reading your situation I change my vote to 'yes' do school today. Seems like there's no reason not to. We are not doing school b/c DH is home and my PS kids are off, so we're chilling out together (no Thanksgiving Dinner here). Sounds like a good chance to keep going instead of falling more behind.
  2. Thanks for the update. Glad things are going well.
  3. I was just asking hubby if there's any place we get live streaming. the answer is no. We don't normally watch the parade, but I got a hankering to watch it this morning... guess not!
  4. Awesome replies, thank you all so much! You know how sometimes people dream of doing something like that? I'm always the voice of reason who says to just leave well enough alone. So I'm curious how other mothers feel about that type of thing. I"m realizing as I get older that I like stability more and more! I might not be as adventurous of an old-timer as I thought I would be. But you all brought up very valid points.
  5. Hypothetical question: Would you pack up your family and move to a lovely tropical island (or mainland) where cost of living is low, quality of living is good, safe, and slow paced? Let's say you could sell your assets in the U.S. and take that as a 'seed money' to get you by for a year or two abroad. One could buy a local business, hotel, etc... Has anyone ditched the rat race on purpose and moved to a dramatically different lifestyle? How has that worked out? Especially with children still at home but nearing college age? I'm just curious :D
  6. If the door was shut then I think it should all be fine.
  7. Oh man, that is a lot of complicated feelings. Go ahead and wade through all of them until you find a new comfort zone.
  8. My 13 yr old is wearing 15. I order from zappos.com or famous footwear online (but they don't carry 15 in all their styles).
  9. A few moms have gotten a youth group going for teen boys (13+) at our mosque once a week at night. We have a couple of great mentor men who will be giving some talks/topics/lectures, but in addition to that I wanted to do some relationship building for the boys. What games are out there that aren't too cheesy for 25 teen boys who aren't all that excited about being there in the first place? Once they're there they do fine. After the class they even play basketball outside for as long as they can, so that's a good sign. I know many games might have a Bible theme, but I wonder if there's anything that is about character or values that we could use? Or if there are Bible verses, I could research Quran verses that have the same meaning and use that instead.
  10. NO!!! I've recently started getting up at 6:30 just to do a short pilates or yoga stretch in my own home... not at a gym.
  11. We don't get cable but I will find shows I like and watch them on amazon prime or Netflix. Shows like 19 Kids, Downton Abbey, or Sherlock when they happen to be available. Otherwise I am not up to date with current tv shows. I had no idea who Lena was either.
  12. I've only been able to read through page 1, but I'm saddened by the stories of kids getting kicked out when they turn 18.
  13. I was just thinking if getting one too! Looking forward to recommendations.
  14. So sorry for this turn of events :(
  15. I pray for healthy results. I'm sorry this is happening, I'm sure it feels gut wrenching. Take care mama.
  16. It's true! It's happened to us a couple times over the years.
  17. Big puzzle on a table that you can come and go to. Origami Plan something together : a party, a helpful gesture to someone, a weekend activity, a meal.
  18. I'm almost done with Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Sorry, can't post links for some reason. I'm loving it.
  19. Wow you guys are rebels! (or I'm such a rule follower)
  20. I wouldn't like it and I don't think he would do that. If he doesn't like it he will scrounge around for an alternative at home. IF he suggested getting something from out, then he's have to bring for all of us because you can't have one person eating from out and the rest from home!
