  1. Explode the Code Rod and Staff Spelling WWE 1-3 SOTW especially now that I am on our second time through with the younger kids Apologia General Science with Lab KIt -- already done for the year!!!! I still haven't found an elementary level science curriculum that gets done.
  2. My 12 year old son is on Week 31 of WWS2 and completed WWS1 last year. He has learned so much and is so proud of what he can now do. That isn't to say it has been easy and enjoyable every day -- many days were challenging and work for him. However, he is eager to do Level 3 before heading off to a Christian high school. One of my favourite parts of the program is the instructor's guide. The instructions on how to help the student are well-thought out and very helpful. Susan seems to know exactly where problems may arise and gives hints to guide the student. I agree with Lisa that the model essays/paragraphs she has put in are extremely helpful. Next year, I will start my 11 year old on WWS1. He is a reluctant writer so it will be interesting to see how that will work out. I am glad that I have been through the courses already! Julie
  3. We made it through 1/3 of it. It was too wordy for my kids (ages 6, 8, and 11). The experiments were fun, though, and easy to do. My kids did say many times that they already knew what was being taught from Magic School Bus show and their previous science readings and experiences. I have officially decided that we will be doing a Charlotte Mason style starting next year for my younger kids.
  4. Math -- DM 7B and 8A English -- R&S Spelling 6, WWS1 ( we will have to see if he is ready for it....), R&S English (grammar lessons only), and Reading CLE 6 French -- Rosetta Stone, and L'art de lire 4 History -- MOH4 Bible -- Most Important Thing OT Science -- maybe a Charlotte Mason-y approach -- not sure yet I can't believe he is in Grade 6 already! I hope the year I have planned isn't too hard. Thankfully, I have done most of the programs with his older brother so that should help me be a better teacher for him.
  5. Math -- DM 8B and prep for Grade 9 exam to be able to skip to grade 10 math English -- WWS3, CLE Literature, finish R&S Grammer 7 History -- MOH 4 Science -- Apologia Physical Science French -- L'art d'ecrire and Rosetta Stone Bible -- Most Important Thing You Will Ever Study -- New Testament Music -- Violin (lessons, ensemble, orchestra...) It will be his last year homeschooling before heading off to high school -- I hope he is ready! Julie
  6. My son has just started Apologia's General Science and I think it might be what you are looking for. It is independent and much more challenging that Dr. Wile's Science in the Beginning. I also purchased the lab kit so my son can find all the supplies he needs and do the experiments on his own.
  7. If you are planning to stay with Singapore, I would recommend it as Discovering Mathematics is certainly a challenging course. I have used Singapore 6 with both of my boys. It took only half a year to complete and helped to review concepts and to be prepared for Discovering Mathematics 7.
  8. My daughter would spit the liquid antibiotics out too at that age. She actually got sicker because she wasn't getting the meds into her. A doctor finally prescribed a chewable pill and my daughter happily took it!
  9. I like my Kitchenaid... I think I paid about $100 for it.
  10. Hits: Discovering Mathematics SOTW 4 R&S English and Spelling WWS1 (tough, but so good for my son) Misses: Elemental Science Earth Sciences -- just didn't get done Apologia's Who is God? -- so wordy
  11. The kids each have their own shower towel and their own beach towel. My husband and I have two towels each. Then we probably have 5-6 more... Wow, that is a lot when you think about it! Adds up to almost 20!
  12. We do it every year with two drivers -- can you leave at midnight or 1am? My husband gets three or four hours of sleep before we leave, and then we arrive by dinner time.
  13. I took Diclectin with good results. The first two or three weeks on it were tough as it left me exhausted. But after that, the only side effect was vivid dreams. All the best!
  14. We have only done the first three units of DM7, but we love it here too. Lots of practice, especially if you have the workbook, and the explanations are clear and thorough. It is refreshing to have just the textbook to deal with in the day to day teaching and work. We used the workbook for test questions, extra practice and review. Julie
  15. Melinda, may God provide his comfort in this difficult time to you and your beautiful children.
  16. Melinda, I am praying for you, Steven, and your children. May God grant peace to all.
  17. Do make the liquid... Look online for how to do it. It does stink up the house and you can only make a little at a time as it does go bad after awhile. I added a couple drops of tea tree oil, and it worked beautifully. I used it on cloth diapers and never had smell issues.
  18. I loved them and used the pieces to make my own liquid. My clothes didn't smell at all. I had to order them online which is a pain. I keep thinking I should try them again, but it does take more effort than Tide :)
  19. My auras can last up to two hours. They include a zigzag, colourful design is that take up half my vision. Then I go numb up one side of my body and then down the other. If it is really bad, my tongue goes numb. I also have trouble getting out the words I want. And then the headache hits. I am so glad I don't get them regularly anymore.
  20. Hugs! When I had a miscarriage, I had my levels monitered after my D&C. My levels took over two months to get back to 0, although my last blood draw actually went up as I had gotten pregnant again!
  21. My third son has sensory issues and had terrible night terrors (hours on end every night) from age 18 months until almost 4 years old. Some of my friends knew about it, but not all. It may be an issue that people don't always share. As for your comment about not thinking you could survive it, I don't know how we did to be honest. It took a toll on my health and on my marriage, and on our whole family. We are finally all sleeping through the night, and I notice a huge difference in my happiness and energy level.
  22. Rinse, rinse, rinse... for a long time! Then see how it is.
