  1. Most teen boys I know don't want to put a lot of effort into making food, especially for snacks. IMO, snacks should be fast and easy. If I could afford to, I'd try to keep stocked up on the healthy snacks he does like, especially when he's in season or training. FWIW, I did find when my teens hit that point where they were very busy and very active I had to make some adjustments to the types of foods I kept on hand. Their nutritional needs, varying schedules, and individual preferences just didn't all gel with my ideals of menu and budget. If he drinks milk, I might look around for a healthy alternative to Carnation Instant Breakfast. If he likes leftovers, I'd make extra on purpose to keep in the fridge. string cheese (or other grab-and-go cheese). homemade muffins, kept in the freezer granola frozen and/or toaster waffle popcorn frozen slices of pizza
  2. At my daughter's request, we're having pulled pork, KC Masterpiece baked beans, and mashed potatoes.
  3. I would only try and administer medication directly to my cat's mouth if I fancied a trip to ER. Some pills can be broken upinto small bits and mixed into wet canned food. I have better luck with cold canned food than room temp. For meds I can't sneak into his regular food, I resort to these Whisker Lickin's treats. They're soft and two can be molded around part of a pill. Works almost every time. Think of them as Kitty Crack. https://www.whiskerlickins.com/
  4. When my dad was still alive my brother and I wound up blocking him from our emails. He kept sending political email forwards, and wouldn't quit despite our requests. It was a huge problem for my brother especially, who didn't have broadband at the time and might have his email jammed up for 20-30 minutes while it all came through.
  5. A few months ago I unfollowed everyone on FB whose sole contributions to my feed were political in nature. Wish I'd done it earlier.
  6. This Caramel Spice Pear Butter is our favorite! http://www.food.com/recipe/caramel-spice-pear-butter-256372
  7. If they are only being asked to do research, the Fire should be fine. I use mine at school all the time. If they will be using it for other tasks in the classroom, there's no guarantee the Fire (or any other device) will work. I do run into some problems, such as at ExploreLearning.com
  8. As a girl I liked Hostess powdered sugar donuts and grape soda. Together.
  9. Survivor of 8 eardrum ruptures as an adult here...Does he have ear or neck pain?
  10. I didn't care about putting on a show, but in the year leading up to our wedding we'd been to a number of wedding services that were disrupted by crying babies, etc. and while I probably wouldn't make that same call now, at the time we opted to invite children of close family and friends only. We also arranged for babysitters in the church nursery for children under 5, and gave parents the option of leaving children with them during the ceremony. Most did, and then the children joined us at the reception.
  11. When my kids were in high school, I set each up with a 12 pocket expandable file we call their Important Papers File. Copies of driver's licenses, social security cards, insurance info, voter registration, car registration, bank account numbers, checks they almost never use, paper copies or tax returns, warranties, etc all live there. Even if these are scanned in, I feel better having a paper copy. College stuff goes in one file. We add in temporary things as needed--like an ACT entry ticket, or a script for a prescription. Otherwise, I'm a terrible paper manager, but this has worked well for us. I keep the main one here while they're in college, and they have a smaller version to use with them. Check stubs from work and bank receipts go in there.
  12. My grandmother used to butcher chickens and geese, and she would make noodles from the unlaid eggs. I doubt her intent was to create a delicacy, but was most likely motivated from having spent the first half of her life in Russia and Germany during very lean times when every potential food source had to be used. I remember my grandfather spreading chicken fat on toas and eating it. (He lived to 93, btw).

  14. I was doing some newspaper research and for fun checked to see if I could find my birth announcement. My poor mom. She carried me for 9 months, the last of those in extremely hot weather without AC. She delivered me. And after that my dad's name was listed in the newspaper birth announcement.
  15. How many syllables in the last name?
  16. My MIL is legendary for getting out stains, and this is her go-to when nothing else works. I usually try Dawn and Resolve/Spray and Wash first because most items I've used it on have taken several additional washings to remove the Lestoil odor.
  17. We really like Mattar Paneer. It reheats well, and if you purchase the paneer is not too time consuming. I always start with this recipe and tweak as I go. http://www.food.com/recipe/mattar-paneer-85853
  18. I had one that I thought seemed sudden, but when we went back and looked through photos it actually was more gradual and had finally reached a very noticeable stage. We scheduled corrective surgery when he was ready.
  19. It depends on if "one and done" really means what it says. In elementary school, beyond school fees, school supplies, an occasional field trip, and a small optional PTO fee, there weren't many extra costs. When my kids went through middle school the individual teams were allowed to set a team fee beyond those costs, and in some cases it as high as $100. The district put an end to those middle school fees and also standardized the supply lists so costs were more uniform. I wouldn't pay a "once and done" fee at the high school my kids went through, because IMO fees already were high. This year $403 which covered $150 instructional fees, $25 technology fee, $100 laptop rental, $50 yearbook, and various misc fees, including $60 for my student to park in the student lot that we as taxpayers already have paid for. That's all they're getting from me.

Since it came out in a public setting, I agree I'd talk with her myself with a "heard it through the grapevine" approach. I wouldn't speak to dh until after talking with her and giving myself to process the conversation.
  21. Interacting with the students is far different from being responsible for supervising students. There should be staff members present at all times who will be responsible for that aspect.
  22. Our finances dictated that larger gifts only happened at Christmas and birthdays, so from a fairly young age our kids learned that if they wanted a larger something in between those events they would need to come up with the funds. Exceptions were usually made for bikes and their first instruments, and occasional other times, such as when a second instrument meant being able to play bass guitar in our church's youth group worship band. We even went this route for cell phones--we paid for inexpensive Tracfones, but when they wanted an iphone or android, they paid the difference. Your son is 14. If he wants a punching bag and bass guitar, and if he is physically able, he should mow some lawns, shovel some snow, do some odd jobs, save some bday money, etc. and buy those things for himself. He'll be more cautious about his "wants" when he has to give up his hard-earned money, and he'll appreciate what he does buy more. If you address this issue first, the Christmas problem will probably solve itself.
  23. My advice also is not to engage. My dad was so persistent with the email forwards that my brother and I finally had to block him. It was always worse during election seasons, or during major events such as Y2K. I know he made calls to the FBI, etc.
  24. Yeah to the rabbit, but I will say allergy shots took care of my fairly severe cat allergy problem. And once the allergies overall settled down, I was able to have a rabbit even though it wasn't part of my shots. I suspect the rabbit allergy would have gone haywire if the rabbit were inside, though.
  25. I've been using Mastey Traite shampoo every day for 15+ years. https://www.amazon.com/MASTEY-Paris-Traite-Cream-Shampoo/dp/B000BL281C/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1472004297&sr=8-1&keywords=traite+shampoo
