Once with a child of a somewhat younger age, the moment they started complaining, I dropped everything and sat down at the kitchen table with them. I had a pen and notebook with me and I gave them my full attention and then I started listing out every single complaint. When they got it out of their system, I reviewed the list with them, assured them they had been heard, then I closed the notebook. The next time they started complaining, we sat back down and repeated the entire process. And again, ad nauseam. It didn't take long for them to get the message.

Even if there are beneficiaries listed, they wouldn't necessarily have access to the accounts, even with a death certificate and valid will. Only the executor that is appointed by the probate court would have access , and only after they have the appropriate documents granting them authority in hand. I was my mom's executor--as well as a beneficiary. The bank would answer questions about her account, such as amounts, bills that were paid, etc. But I couldn't transfer any funds or use her funds to pay any of her bills that weren't on autopay. My dad's situation was different as he died in a state where small estates (under $50,000 in assets and no real estate) didn't have to go through probate court. A valid will and death certificate was all that was needed for me to have access to his accounts as his executor.

BM's may still be moving through during the early stages of a blockage or in a partial blockage. Everyone hates ER, but this is a better-safe-than-sorry situation, as either of these conditions can become serious quickly. Keep us posted.

If your pain is worse this morning, I also suggest heading to ER. I get occasional flare-ups of diverticulitis and the pain for me usually gets better in a few hours after onset. I've also had an intestinal blockage that put me in the hospital for five days. Go get it checked.

I'm sorry, Hannah. We had family member start a long term hospital stay on Christmas week and it was tough on everyone. You've had some great ideas here, but I'll toss out playing it up and making it ridiculously Christmasy. One of my kids graduated from college during lockdown, so that meant nograduation ceremony. We decorated, ordered out food, watched the prerecorded speeches, then played it up big, dressed a sibling in a graduation gown to hand out the diploma, blasted Pomp & Circumstance from a cell phone, followed by prerecorded crowd noises. Somehow just going all in--mixed with a little silliness--went a long way to help taking the sting off a totally abnormal celebratory event.

Cardinals and Grosbeaks could handle my larger Squirrel Buster, but prefer this acorn feeder. I did have a cardinal that figured out my small Squirrel Buster today, but they usually don't even try. I've given up the squirrel fight. I also have one of these ground feeders so they can take what they want, but they still go for the hanging feeders. This is the ground feeder I have and I've been happy with it.

I have that small Squirrel Buster and really like it but larger birds like Cardinals often have trouble with it. This is my Acorn Screen Feeder is my absolute favorite.
