  1. That's incredible that they are just telling her this today. It's how it is in our district, though, which is why if you want the option of going back, you have to have approved credits through somewhere. I'd appeal to the fact that I wasn't told this when she reentered. I think it's a bit funny that you can CLEP for college credits and nothing for high school. Carrie:-)
  2. you can remind her/ask her... "Did YOU go to kindergarten?" Many older people started in 1st grade. That should help. Co-ops are great to show "classroom" type opportunities...and "one year at a time" answers:-) Carrie
  3. Barbara Alan Johnson, for SOTW 1 and 2. Carrie:-)
  4. Gosh, if you don't rub the blossom off, my friend puts hers on the utility shelf for a few weeks. In the fridge, isn't their "life" at least a couple of months? My farm fresh eggs last forever. (I pay $5 a dozen for organics) Carrie:-)
  5. What's worse about the bottom half of a woman's bre**st than the top half?? It has nothing to do with the fact that too much shows, and everything to do with the fact that some don't want to think about a woman producing liquid for a baby to eat. Tough. Carrie
  6. Lucky You! My dad and daughter are over there right now. They went back to Rome, because my daughter loved it so much! With some Latin study, it seems as though Italian makes a bit more sense to my daughter. (I think...we'll talk more when she's back) She has enjoyed it SO much. You realize to get in Vatican City, it's a separate spot. And, my dad advance purchased First Class (train?) tickets and found out that it just allows him to reserve/purchase 1st class when he's there. (For about 10 euro extra each ticket.) Of course, you realize lots of n*keds over there. (art) and so my dad was concerned that I explain this to my daughter before they went. My dad said the euro is horrible for us, right now, and so it's a lot more $$$ than he was expecting. They've loved the gelato! and Pizza has been great. Fresh Mozzerella....oh...wow....food ...art....Yay:-) Get good walking shoes:-) and check out what you have to wear for some of the spots.?? I have no idea when you're leaving...but they're getting back here on this Saturday...if you aren't leaving before then. Carrie:-)
  7. So he wants to have him half time? Or he's more interested in making decisions?? Carrie
  8. If you're looking for a Christian World-view report http://www.textbookreviews.org/index.html?content=about.htm might be good. When I was little, my family actually knew them. I remember books all along the walls, at the top, books over every surface, books in the spare bathtub. I hear that they finally got some other space:-) They were very nice and got started when their son brought a textbook home, that wasn't what they thought it should be. Carrie:-)
  9. But not all of them are showed in the classroom. I don't want my kids in the classroom, cuz I don't want my children's scope and sequence, or what they watch....decided by a school board or a school teacher. I really don't think any tv should be watched in school. Carrie
  10. I bought raw sugar and dry vanilla to use for mine. I'll be checking here to see what everyone suggests:-) I wanted something that I could add dried milk to... (maybe non-instant dried milk, so it'd be healthy??) Carrie
  11. You were at church? I would talk to them about the fact that the law says you have to teach comparable. This, in my opinion, would be something to do the going to them, offering suggestions, and if needed....talk to the pastor about it. It's wrong, biblically, not to submit when it doesn't go against biblical teachings. This is just wrong. It gives hs a bad name. Maybe they just need some gentle nudging. Carrie
  12. I have one. I'll look for it. I'll ask on the CC social board for you in case anyone has one:-)
  13. I know my parents expected me to go to college. While I was younger though, I didn't see the big picture. Perhaps it would have helped to draw it out for me. Back when I was younger, I just didn't have an idea of what it took to buy a house, car, live. You know.... Working low paying jobs isn't fun to use for a living. Sports, chores and other activities are good too! Especially ones with him working not by himself:-) Carrie;-)
  14. Funny, it's nice knowing that our local HS used a good textbook. (Johnson's) Good to know something positive:-) Carrie:-)
  15. For moisture, you can try crisco after bathing. You pat dry and before they are really dry, you put the crisco on and then wrap in a warm pillow type covering. Of course, I'm sure you're already careful about what you use to cleanse. Have you tried not using anything to cleanse, except for water? You know that even tap water can have stuff in it that bothers excema? My daughter had skin that wept, so we literally kept her in cotton tights for a while, because she would have such bloody/weepy legs. Here's the good news: she looked horrible as a baby. I heard "poor baby" all the time. She just turned 11 and she's almost better. I mean, to someone else, they might still see it. To me, she looks almost cured:-) Carrie
  16. Sorry Pam, it's because of me that there's an age requirement at our campus. I didn't/don't want stress for the little kids. I've heard that some of the ABCers at other CCs are MMs. Carrie:-)
  17. I saw one for 2 months free. From what I've heard about them... I'd just ask where to look for the code, or ask if they can just give it to me:-) Carrie
  18. You can also have them comb-bound with a metal comb at Staples:-) Carrie:-)
  19. Funny, Last sunday all "teachers" etc including Homeschoolers were suppose to stand up. I didn't and my mom and husband were saying... "stand up!". Anyway, we're all responsible to teach our children. It's our responsibility and we decide what part of it we'll do...and what part we will "hire-out". So ALL of the parents could have stood, right?? I'm just as responsible for my daughter who goes to Public school (ok..well she's step..so it's not my decision:-) as my children who I school. Sometimes, I think it should be that way. Everyone who sends their children, stand up, so you remember that you're the person held responsible for your child's education. We're praying for you today, so that you'll remember to stay involved:-) Carrie
  20. I got a good one from Tobin's Labs. They are on my list for Classical Conversations this year. I think you'd be happy with them. http://www.tobinslab.com/search It's between $4 and $14 depending on what you want...these are large owl pellets. Carrie:-)
  21. Yes, there is a Classical Conversations yahoo group and we have a social group, here, too:-) Carrie
  22. I wanna order Julie's living math lesson plans that correspond to SOTW I. We like Greg Tang's books and Sir Cumference books. Cindy Neuschwander (who writes the Sir... books..) also writes other good math books, too! Have fun! Carrie:-)
