  1. I would not talk at all about the curricula being a problem. I would mention that the transition to full time school you thought would just happen...needs a bit of time due to his issues. How much he loves school, and how the teacher sees him doing the morning and then coming to your office for the rest. The only problem I see with this, is will they see this taking away from your job?? If money wasn't an issue, an afternoon nanny type person who could come get him and bring him back might work out. I would go into it with the talk of...as his issues calm, next year, we'd like to see if we can add a class or two back.... I know that Classical Conversations has a great collection of memory work, and if you put a cycle into it....between Cycle 1 and 2...it'd be a 4 year cycle and add some spice to any curriculum. (Or for ease...leave it as it is. ) Anyway, very cost effective...low effort...lots of material to help hang that info on...Just a thought...Their whole emphasis is a stick in the sand:-) is all you need... Carrie:-)
  2. If you play with them a ton, and you're gone less than 6 hrs at a time, I'd kennel them in a really cool spot. My dog is inside, and seriously..he's great in a kennel. For a dog, Kennels = security. My dog sleeps all night in his...(in the house) and when we're gone...he's in there. We bought an outdoor kennel for him and it just didn't work...crying and such... Put him in a kennel and he just curls up and sleeps. Carrie:-)
  3. Sounds like an unaltered dog. If my husband said this...I might run:-) Carrie
  4. I'm so sorry!! I had a horrible time in college, and I didn't even have a boyfriend. No relationships...and just college sucked for me. Lots of Hugs for him!! And then a bigger one for yourself! I know that when you "dreamed the dream" it wasn't about babysitting and odd jobs when you're the age we are:-) I was thinking about dog walking today... (3 jobs a day, could be good?) Money problems suck, kids who aren't having a good time...or having a hard time...it sucks... I mean...when You thought about having kids... you like imagine the Disney Vacation kinda family.... Just remember...they're all working for the $$$ too:-) I'm so sorry, and I hope that tomorrow offers a bit of sonshine:-) Carrie:-)
  5. Wow! That's a hard one! I am SO protective, and wouldn't let my step-kids walk anywhere at first ...even after their mom starting letting/making them. Then, I started letting them walk together... I can't remember exactly what age. Now they are 17 and 14 and they go by themselves around, I'd still prefer together when possible. My daughter just started at 10, going around on her bike. I'm sure there are nasty people out there, I know we have sex offenders out here...we've looked them up. It's a bit different with my daughter. She's my size and stronger than I am. She's also been around with older sisters for years... We do have ours take cell phones...but in a struggle...they just need to bike away from the problem...towards safer grounds... Carrie
  6. Cloth diapers are the best. Then you decide what you like and who will change your child:-) I used lots because I became addicted:-) First, the Gerber are horrible. I think they're different than when they were first out. Gerber does have Diaper Service Quality Diapers, available through Diaper Service places, and you'll want those...if you go Gerber. Second, if you're the only one changing, Gerber DSQ with Super Whisper Wraps, as I saw mentioned before are Great. Wool wraps, especially for summer (just diaper..and wrap when it's hot:-) and wool wraps at night are great! You can make wool wraps easily, by using things like soft wool sweaters (good will) Pendelton Shirts (I like to felt them before I make them out of these...) If you do a search for making your own diapers, you'll find a ton of info... If you want links that I've used:-) pm me and I"ll send you more info than you want. If you just wanna buy some diapers....there's a link that was just going on here that was about Costco wipes, where I listed that there are cloth diapers for sale on Costco, too. For diapers that stay nice, I like diapers and covers separate, or sometimes there are things called "Almost All in Ones...." You want the diaper to be able to be washed on HOT and the cover..you won't want to do that. Carrie:-)
  7. Here, you can go half day. It's not as easy as it sounds, and I'd go in with a calm attitude. They get a little ticked if you talk about what you are "paying" for...they don't see it like that. BUT, if you go in with a humble attitude and just say that the first year....it's better for your family if you go half time and then you plan on him going full time the next year...they may help you out. Part of it, and how willing they are...is how your school system pays out money. I have to say, that if it were me, I would join something like Classical Conversations(Christian Based) or a co-op instead...and wait till the next year. I can already see you...and how you are gonna be ticked with "their ways" :-) Just a thought:-)
  8. Can you just use it much slower? Kinda more along the two years for every books, maybe she's liked it if it was slower paced. I've heard that it's way too packed for a year, anyway! Carrie:-)
  9. I think that for the history sentences it's totally worth it. This would be what you get on the Audio CD, you might get it on the Memory Resource CD. (I think you can rip them of the Resource CD and that would be your best one to get.) CC's is slightly different than the VP order for the History Timeline cards, and I believe that would be worth it, too. The VP cards are $100 and you memorize the same ones year after year. CC arranges the by purely time and not geographically like VP... so...just a few change... Carrie:-)
  10. I do, except that with consumable bones, it's a quick way to see that it's gone. I actually worry about rawhide, because it doesn't seem so good for the dog, and bones that you just sit around... I heard that you have to be careful. It's kinda fun to see them with chicken or turkey bones. You can just see that they were made to chew them..The way they just naturally start with the best side and crunch incrementally to the end of it:-) It's kinda gross but at the same time cool...to see them just crunch right through the bone. :-) Wish you were closer, you know even more than I do about it... AND, I'd love you to show me any way...negative...neutral or positive to keep him from eating up whatever he sees on my counter or table:-)
  11. I bought my Avent at Target, the second time, and it was great. On my fastest day, when my daughter was almost 1 I got 8 ounces in 10 minutes. I am not small br**sted:-) It's a great portable pump. I've heard Medela is great, too. Carrie:-)
  12. I believe that the death penalty is good and fair, when there are the "witnesses" that are necessary. This is not an example of a righteous execution. (Debate about the affect on society and such is different.) I believe that sentences based on guessing what happened should be sentences that are able to be reversed. (Life, if necessary, would have been better.) What I always wonder, is why can't they kill the guy who gets caught killing the little kids...) they have to do something like this. :-)
  13. I think a perfect way to clean your dogs teeth is to get some chicken wings.... (ok hornblower...correct me if you don't feed these). I have to say that my dog's teeth are just perfect. If I start feeding too much stuff without crunchy bones....I just feed a couple of chickens and it's good. No cooked bones, mind you. So, for about $15 you'll have some cleaner teeth. If you can take your nail to their teeth, you can actually "pop" off some of the tarter.... No people tooth paste. Also, if you won't do chicken, like it was mentioned before...you can do bones. I haven't tried lamb bones...but I have knuckle bones. My dog had to have me hold the raw before he'd eat it. (I had to do this when I first got him with kibble, too) This isn't like you have to feed raw all the time. You can just get the chicken once a month or whatever...and it'll take care of your problem and not cost the money you are talking about. Also.... I don't feel like it's more of a risk than anything else...BUT, even if you do.... the risk of anesthetic is as much of a risk as anything:-) Carrie
  14. My dog may start getting some salmon oil (wild, yes:-) off this thread. Who knew he'd cost more than my children:-) You know...kids get beans and rice.... dog gets the heart and kidneys... sad thing is my husband eyes the dog's food. Sometimes I think he's gonna fight the dog for it's food!! :-) Carrie:-)
  15. To confuse you a bit more, I really like Latin-Centered Curriculum and think that it combines nicely with CC. Carrie:-)
  16. Get the laminator or borrow one:-) It's surprising how many people have them:-) Then, OregonLam.com has the 6x9 pouches. No cutting apart! It's great and they last longer with no cutting. The ML is thicker than most rolls of lamination, too. These have rounded corners. The code is IN5RC You have them in a couple of days. The shipping is a flat $5.95 and I order for everyone in my group. You can ask others if they wanna go in with you:-) I also purchase rings that pilots use....from Flyboys.com They don't bite your cards when turning them. I actually hole punch in the bottom, since they fall over when practicing. Carrie:-)
  17. These look great! It looks like they are covers, diapers, and boosters.. separately. :-) Carrie:-)
  18. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11475778&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|48022|56098&N=4040783&Mo=16&pos=1&No=7&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=56098&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC5397-Cat48022&topnav= http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?ec=BC-EC30983-ProdID11475778&pos=0&whse=BC&topnav=&prodid=11475784&lang=en-US Wow, these look nice. Costco! Who would have thought. I'd buy these before making them. I have some I bought from The Natural Baby Store...from 11 years ago. (not these, but ones made by someone else:-) Carrie:-)
  19. Here's a funny about this:-) I was kinda nervous to tell the Vet office that I'm doing raw. Then I found out that two of the office people do, and so I mentioned that I was doing raw for him and the vet said....No problem. He's just a great guy who isn't bothered by other people's decisions. There are risks with everything. I met someone who's dog died during that last recall. My dog could die tomorrow...but it would be more likely from the grapes that my husband sneaked in...than the food. Just remember...No cooked bones:-) Carrie
  20. IF I was just going to purchase an inexpensive good, I'd buy the Costco lamb and rice. Evo, Taste of the Wild, and I saw some others are good:-) My dog ate these and still had allergy problems. I started feeding him beef or lamb kidneys, hearts and such with some bone shavings/dust. For us, it really works and has left him feeling strong and energetic. I also feed raw chicken, but some worry about salmonella with that. For us, his teeth are just great and it's been almost a year. For us, with a 63ish lb dog, it costs about $1.00 a day to feed him this way. If I had lots of friends that butchered, I could get more free:-) Carrie:-)
  21. Thanks! I've taken the time to look at these:-) Carrie:-)
  22. Yes, I think that you may really think about the disadvantages here. Your patience may not be able to be stretched as much. You may not get to have your carpet cleaned because of accidents. The may not jump on you. :-) We adopted our pup (all 65 lbs of him) when he was 2yrs or so.... He's great...and Hornblower, we fee him no wheat! IF he didn't self-feed which means that any food lying on the counter all down....that is unattended...gets chowed down on! If we could break that habit....he'd be perfect! Carrie
  23. Feel good that you got a deal. The one that I'm replacing...just for the top...(they're using the old hardware..which includes legs and the fram...) is $225. Ouch!
  24. Our Homeschool Group needs to purchase a folding table with grey top to replace one that my child broke. Anyone have any ideas?? I have looked and see something somewhat similar...but very expensive... Carrie
  25. Yup Herding Cats:-) It is a balance between learning to sit still, obey a tutor, and have fun. It'll come. It's hard for that class, but it's good training ground for older years. I've been talking to my 6 yr old son about this coming year when he needs to stay for the full class. Carrie:-)
