  1. I cloth diapered my dd, who's 3 and out of diapers for a year and a half now, but there are so many new options now and diapers that have gone out of favor. Businesses have closed as well. I got rid of many newborn diapers, including a dozen colored Kissaluvs, but I still have the BumGenius OS diapers and some fitteds. I love fitteds! I'm going to try and get by with mostly prefolds and Imse Vimse covers, but I would like to try out a few nice fitteds that are trim, absorbent, but with quick drying time. Natural (unbleached, no color, but not white) colors are preferable, as 1) that usually cuts down on price and 2) I will be using cute covers over them. I also like organic, but as long as it's all cotton, or maybe bamboo, I'm fine. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me! BTW, both of my babies were more on the leaner side than chubby. PS: I like the looks of Loveybums, the Natural color organic diaper is "only" $19.
  2. Update: Thank you all so much for your input! I think it is, in fact, the homemade detergent. I've heard so much about soap buildup on the diapers, that I was afraid to try anything stronger on them. Yesterday, though, I washed them (twice) in All (the only detergent I had on hand), and they DON'T smell! This is huge! I was about to give up on cloth diapering. Thanks again! Why do my twins' cloth diapers smell so bad?? Here are the facts: I use mostly pocket diapers that were new when I got them. I use a homemade detergent of: 1c Borax 1/2c Washing Soda 1/2c Baking soda 1/2c Oxy I always rinse first in cold water. Then wash in hot water with 2 Tbs of the detergent. A couple of times I have tried doing another rinse with a little vinegar added to see if that would help. I always hang them outside (or inside if it's raining) to dry. They smell clean when they come off the line, but as soon as they get a little pee in them, they smell AWFUL, and very much like a skunk that just swam in a dirty fish tank. Help??
  3. I've never used them, I know nothing about it, and I've had no desire to use them until recently when my 4th dd started breaking out in a rash regularly. I was told it might be the diapers. So what is it going to cost me? How much time am I going to have to put into keeping them clean? Where do I start? I have a 3 month old, 21 month old and 3 year old (only at night) who I would need to diaper. Any help would be appreciated!
  4. You have all gotten me intrigued with trying out the cloth diapering, at least on a part-time basis. (Hubby really has no interest, but doesn't mind if I try it out.) I was thinking about going with Thirsties Duo Wraps with prefolds. However, should I just use Thirsties prefolds, or is there something out there from another company that people generally like better? Also, what are the pros and cons of the different materials: hemp, cotton, etc. Other than the wraps and prefolds, what else should I have on hand? I want to use the flushable liners, so recommendations on those are appreciated, too. I know I need a wet bag for the diaper bag and a diaper pail with a liner. Is there anything else that I'm overlooking? Any thoughts on anything are welcome. We are due in September, so I have a little bit of time. :D
  5. We would love another baby. When I get pregnant again, I really want to use cloth diapers. I used them very briefly with my toddler. His diapers would start smelling really strong and he would get red in the private area. I eventually sold them. I just never quite figured out how to wash them the right way. I would like to know how you wash your cloth diapers? And do you use regular store bought detergent or do you make your own?
  6. I have never used cloth diapers, but am considering them with the new baby. I was leaning toward Fuzzi Bunz, until I visited the store of the manufacturer of Hugga Buns. They seem quite similar, but Hugga Buns adjusts with snaps, while Fuzzi Bunz uses elastic. They are both pocket diapers. So, any experience with either one? I'm looking for a comparison between the two, but any advice/suggestions will be helpful. Also, if there is another good brand, or a reason a different style (other than pocket diaper, such as using pre-folds with covers, etc.) is better, feel free to share! Thanks!
  7. What are your recommendations for the best value, and/or best overall products for the task? Dd really wants to do cloth, and I am planning to purchase what she will need in a couple of months, so I'm doing the research... Thanks for any input y'all may have to offer!
  8. I want to go ahead and begin ordering all of the supplies for cloth diapering our 3rd baby due in August. I am overwhelmed by all of the various brands. There seems to be pluses to each kind and well... some are just so darn cute ;) Do you have a favorite brand? Please share with me why and any experiences. I have really been looking at bummis, happy heinys, fuzzibunz, and JamTot's Kangaroos. I think I like the idea of all-in-ones or pocket daipers. TIA!
  9. Let me first say that I know nothing about cloth diapers. I read another thread on them and I was totally lost with all the lingo. I used disposables with my dd and had planned on doing the same with this guy except for the fact that disposables are very, very expensive where I live overseas. So, can you guys help me think through this? Here's the questions I have... -I have no hot water in my washer and I have no dryer, would I have to bleach the diapers to get them clean/disinfected? Is it ok to let the diapers to air dry? -what do I wash the diapers in? would baking soda be enough to clean/disinfect them thoroughly? (Baby safe detergent is also expensive and I'm not really sure that it's baby safe :)) -I have no idea what I'm doing, are cloth diapers really as easy to use as disposables? (exluding the cleaning process) -how do you store the dirty diapers? do they smell after awhile and if so, how do you get the smell out of them? (I'll probably wash them everyday or every other day as my washer is small and water is cheap) -how do I get started, specifically what will I need to buy? (I'm overseas, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to get specific brands or the latest adavances in cloth diapering, so what are the most basic cloth diapering materials that I would need to get, ie. what should I look for when I go shopping for baby stuff this weekend) -once I get all these supplies, is there anything I need to do to them before I begin to use them? I would appreciate any help/advice you guys can give :)!
  10. So I'm interested in doing cloth diapers with baby #4. There were so many options that I'm just mind blown. Any input I can get would be greatly appreciated.
  11. For those of you who use cloth diapers, what do you use for wipes? Can I make my own cheaply, like with flannel? What size? How do you use dry wipes? Do you use a spray bottle with water or some mixture? Please educate me!
