  1. I always get called back and it’s always fine. Did you ask to be put on their cancellation list? That can often get you in sooner.
  2. Same. And thinking "only if you wear a cabbage leaf cap to coordinate !" Knock’em dead, Sneezy. 😘
  3. ? Tell her to contact her professor.
  4. @easypeasy Always, always, always send a thank you note. It’s not “schmoozy,” it’s polite.
  5. I have one like the one featured here. https://www.latimes.com/home/la-lh-countertop-compost-bin-box-cliff-spencer-20131121-story.html?_amp=true In truth, I cribbed the idea from here (or was it Goop?) and had a friend make a similar wooden holder for my compost pan. It looks pretty, is lidded so there are no flies or odors, and it holds a decent amount so I don’t have to run out to the compost pile three times a day. https://goop.com/alasaw-countertop-compost-bin/p/?variant_id=28188
  6. May Chip encounter many cats, loopy haired dolls, and an endless supply of salted caramel lube in doggy heaven. Losing a dog is so tough. I’m sorry.

  8. Could you call the extension office at your university and ask? So nice that all of your other plants are native. And good on you for thinking before planting! Now off to see if espaliered nannyberry would work in my neck of the woods…! 😉
  9. Here are some suggestions for alternative plants that aren’t invasive. Your state might have a website listing invasive plants and suggestions for native plants to use instead of them. I don’t think it matters how vigilant one is about deadheading or keeping a potentially invasive plant under control, at some point it’s going to get away from you or the people who take over your property. Avoid guilt feelings and make some native critters happy by planting natives. 🙂 https://www.gardenia.net/guide/native-plant-alternatives-to-hibiscus-syriacus Native plant database: https://www.audubon.org/native-plants
  10. He was a kind man, too. Sad day.
  11. This “mild illness” has landed a (formerly) perfectly healthy vaxed friend (50s) in the hospital, so I wouldn’t be so quick to assume it is not as severe as other variants. I don’t know that there is evidence to support the “like the common cold” theory.
  12. If you wet your hair well (so it won’t absorb pool water) and use a swim cap you should be fine. There’s shampoo for swimmers too.
  13. I don’t color my hair, so no personal experience, but my very stylish, fabulous looking cousin uses eSalon for customized DIY color and recommends it highly.
  14. Why not just say your husband is the jealous type and you can no longer keep in touch? And then block him.
  15. I don’t thin it with anything, just remove some for the non-drinkers and add some booze to the rest. I don’t find it too thick, but one could always add milk or cream. It is very rich and delicious. I have tasted it with booze (adjusted for what remains) and find it way, way too strong. So if making the original recipe, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to add the booze gradually and to taste until you get to the sweet spot.
  16. Four Roses eggnog. Just don’t add in the alcohol. Make sure to beat the yolks until they’re fluffy and pale - you can do this with a bain marie. Warm egg yolks will give you more volume. This eggnog is so much better than anything you will find in a store. Kids love it, adults love it (spiked). I’m with the kids on this one, though, not being terribly keen on booze. Do a Google search and you’ll immediately find it.
  17. We definitely don’t do more schoolwork at home, but rather play lots of fun logic games (Tipover, Gravity Maze, Rush Hour…), build things with blocks, play scrabble or bananagrams, play musical instruments, read books of interest and discuss them, identify trees and flowers, watch interesting age-appropriate documentaries, draw and paint, etc. I think tough puzzles and musical instruments work best for learning to persevere. Beast Academy problems are also good for learning patience and developing problem solving abilities. I guess the BA books are academic, but they are also fun because they’re comic books. Chess is another fun pastime. As are other board games.
  18. How about “Da*#. That’s a small carbon footprint and I’m kinda awesome !” Because it is way better for the world not to fly, and of course you’re awesome. 😘
  19. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! ❤️
  20. Here are some lily-of-the-valley related fragrances. Anyone familiar with any of them? https://www.whowhatwear.com/lily-of-the-valley-perfumes/slide3 And more: https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/best-lily-of-the-valley-perfumes/amp Fragrance is such a personal thing, and so evocative. I want to get it right. But I also don’t want to go into a store!
  21. I’m looking for a commercially available lily-of-the-valley perfume for an older relative. It (the flower) is her favorite fragrance, and one that her now deceased husband used to offer her (in flower and in perfume form). That’s all I’ve got to work with. It doesn’t have to be perfume, any of the eaux would work too. Anyone?
  22. Phew! I’m glad he’s starting to feel better too. I know you must have been sick with worry yourself. Glad you’ll have him back at home (and boosted!) for the break.
