  1. I am so sorry - prayers and good thoughts.' Years ago, I lived in fear that one of my children would take that step. Trying to find an MD or anyone at all even telling them what had been articulated was one of the most frightening and frustrating times in my life. And, yes, in different States, the age of 'reason' as regards psychiatric care, well, it leaves one wondering. We located a school psychologist who had a private practice as well. Twenty years later, we still send holiday cards, and I remember this man in my prayers regularly. He did more for our family at that awful time than anyone else -- no meds, just counseling, and counseling and more counseling. Perhaps a search that turns up school psychologists in a school system who specialize at the teen level might help. We literally stumbled upon our knght in shining armor by talking to the attorney who did the School System legal work for a county where we lived -- the attorney recommended (highly recommended) the psychologist.
  2. We had testing done here over the summer. We started with the child psychiatrist who had the testing done by the child psychologist in the same practice. Both professionals conducted 'interviews/consults' and then the testing was completed. We met with the child psychologist regarding the test results, then we met with the child psychiatrist after both she and the child psychologist had discussed the results. The child psychiatrist confirmed from the results (this was the first time this particular child was 'tested' for adhd) that we are not seeing adhd but rather seeing anxiety. The first child psychiatrist we saw 6 years ago, immediately went to meds after observing this child for a brief amount of time. The results on the eds from a behavior standpoint were excellent, but the appetite/growth issues were not.
  3. OMH, Heather! 24 hours and 22 pages! ftr, :iagree: with you. I am quite tired of the semantics and nit picking regarding all of it.
  4. Go Yankees!!! Go Nats!!!!! After that, well, while i am a lifelong NYY fan, my kids truly only 'know' the Nats as they have lived here all their lives....so I'm okay.
  5. I'm sorry you can't be there -- your virus sounds like what i had two weeks ago - i kept taking immodium for about 5 days - every four hours - the cramps stopped, i didn't feel great, but i wasn't doubled over in pain. It took about 6 days to go away. praying for peace for all of you.:grouphug:
  6. I am so glad he is off the ventilator. (((hugs))) you have been through so much!:grouphug:
  7. I'm sorry. :grouphug: I know it hurts the kids especially. My I laws have not been to Virginia in 5 years. They drive right past us on their way to Florida, dh has offered to do the driving, buy train tix, they have been invited to visit us when we r in nj which is 20 minutes from their house, but no. We have stopped telling the kids when we have extended N invitation to avoid the disappointment.
  8. Me. I woke in the middle of the night last week literally doubled over with pain...that is how bad the cramping was. It lessened each day and by Thursday, I was okay. It lasted three days and I was exhausted the entire time.
  9. Love the baby's name........praying for your DIL -- it will be fine :grouphug:......i only know of good outcomes with friends and family who have been induced.:grouphug:
  10. Good - 13 -- that would explain why I knew we could take DD13 to see it. Definitely, give Max our regards! :) I am so hoping now that I have sent him an email that we can get together when he is in DC or when we visit NY. The world is an amazingly small place.;)
  11. See! We didn't really hijack!;) I love your idea for the Boston Birthday!:001_smile: We are doing it as a read aloud with the twins (almost 12) and dd13. I think it's okay as a read aloud. I do understand that on the website the recommend the performance for 14 year olds - can't remember exactly. I do know that we will probably take dd13 but I am not going to take the twins this time around. I don't think they have the focus ability. There are no intermissions if i recall.
  12. Yes, Denise, definitely do that. It is so worth it. I can remember Max walking around the neighborhoods of Morristown, NJ when our kids were little and he would 'rehearse' while he walked. He and Sharon were such a wonderful part of my life during a time that was so hopeless and so bleak. On a funny note, though, you of all people can appreciate the look on my sister's face when Max and Sharon and my sister and her husband were at my house for dinner, and my sister said something about 'naturally' she had been named the legal guardian for my daughters in case something happened to me, and I looked at her and said, 'Well, actually, no, you aren't. Max and Sharon are.':lol::lol:
  13. Angela: Thank you! I was so thrilled (have I said that already?) to see this thread. I last saw Max perform in Baltimore (I think he did Mark) at the Symphony probably 20 years ago -- and he did the question and answer session and the kids were enthralled. Max is a wonderful testament to one following the Lord's will in their life....against 'sage' advice from 'the folks at Church' ;) - I've emailed FPA and hope dh and i can get together with at least him, and hopefully with him and Sharon.:)
  14. Cannot believe I saw this thread. I have been friends with Max and his wife for 25+ years. Their daughters and my two older daughters were the best of friends for years till my daughters and I relocated from Morris County, NJ. Max's wife and I were the best of friends - I worked in NYC and she was in a Masters' Program and we did everything we could for each other as far as helping each other with the kids, carpooling, everything. Max traveled all the time back then (I imagine he still does) but with two little girls under the age of 10 and no family around, Sharon and I were best buddies.....we spent holidays together, weekends together, friday night sleepovers were a weekly event. When Max first started out, he was in radio, and the buzz at the Church we attended (Long Hill Chapel in Chatham NJ) was how he would earn a living doing dramatic Christian performing. I knew Max, and I knew Sharon, and I knew that Max was an amazing performer and it would happen. He and Sharon are an amazing couple -- she is just the most gracious, intelligent person one could ever hope to have as a friend. Max is one of the kindest people I have ever met. In fact, when my daughter's were young, Max and Sharon were the people I named in my Will who were to be their Legal Guardians should anything happen to me. When my dad passed away, 23 years ago, Max did a dramatic reading of 'I Will Not Go Gently Into That Great Night' at the funeral Mass.....it was one of my dad's favorite pieces of poetry. It was unforgettable. My dd32 called to tell me that Max was going to be in DC this winter performing screwtape letters and that her dh had surprised her with tickets. I am getting in touch with Max and his wife to see if we can get together with them for dinner. Small world.:)
  15. I have hashimoto's -- the number don't mean a lot because everyone feels different at different levels. The website recommended in the previous post is excellent. Anything written by Mary Shomen is well worth reading....and taking notes. I believe that when I am tested, my doctor does t3, t4, tsh, and I am thinking anti-thyroid antibodies (TPO) -- I take armour thyroid and things have been under control for 8 years now.
