Karen in CO
I love how Singapore build great mathematical thinking, and I love the CWP and IP books because of the word problems. For something all together that shows several approaches to each type of problem and is in one handy workbook, then BJU. It is easy cheesy and gets done. patchfire
Developmental Math. Some students will need extra drill practice; we've done it with adding calculadder drills and recently Math Blaster on the computer.
Tami
CLE math!!! It includes everything!!! :iagree: CLE Math is so easy to use and teach. Plus, the instruction is fantastic! No frills.
Michelle T
Excellent traditional math curriculum. Best thing is it's consumable workbooks all the way through 6th grade. That's a big selling point for DS's like mine! Michelle T

imeverywoman
A combo of Rod and Staff and Singapore has been incredible for us.
chiguirre
R&S is very "no frills". Very few manipulatives and those are used for a whole year. Enough drill for almost any kid in the workbook, although there are blackline masters if you do need them. The TM is straightfoward and includes all the drill and concept work you'll need. All in all, it's very easy to use.

sandalwood
:iagree::iagree: Rod and Staff has been great here. After using Horizons for up to 5th grade, We have started using Rod & Staff for the 2nd half of this year and it is like a breath of fresh air! Very no frills, gets the job done. hsmomof2boys
I vote for Saxon Math. I don't know which level your children are on, but K-3 uses a lot of manipulatives. After that, starting with Saxon 5/4, there aren't many manipulatives. It's printed basically in black and white. I think it gets the job done, and my children enjoy it. athena1277
I used MCP K (finished it) and switched to R&S. Both are no frills, but we will be going back to MCP for 1st grade. It had better suggestions for extras in the TM and it just had a better feel to it.

Moni
Just looking for something that gets the job done. Which job? I think math facts only first, then Saxon Math 54 through Calculus is pretty much no frills :seeya:
Jlynn
Rod and Staff...not only no frills, but very easy to implement and very inexpensive.
fractalgal
Singapore? Ray's? Just looking for something that gets the job done. I have two - Singapore and Saxon (K-3 particularly). Saxon K-3 focuses heavily on the number line and emphasizes tricks and recognizing patterns to teach the math facts. It also focuses on sequences (that teach looking for patterns) which I think are important. Very thorough program. Singapore is visual at presenting concepts. It has logical word problems which encourage thinking outside the box. Great program!
Jenn Robinson
R&S is working great for us! :)
Chloe
Saxon for the upper years.
LivingUnderGrace
Let's see, for *my* family: Saxon was way too time consuming Rod and Staff was very boring Abeka had no 'thinking' math Singapore for us is perfect. :001_smile: It is easy to teach, doesn't take long, no frills, gets the job done, is a great 'thinking' math, and holds the attention of my kiddos (and one is adhd). Ann@thebeach
We started 1st with MCP math and it was fine but for some reason I had to try something different :001_huh: We tried R&S and Horizons for a yr but came back to MCP for 3rd and now doing 4th grade. It's a solid affordable program. Great teachers manual too. Just 1 workbbk per year and no extras needed. I started my DD with MCP this yr for 1st and we won't be changing this time! If it ain't broke don't fix it ;)
