  1. Heather, I hope CW knows what a good spokesperson they have in you! I;ve been following your thread with quiverfull and think that they should be paying you for all the wonderful info you are giving us!:001_smile: Thank you!!!! I think that we will do what you recommended. She used to use the Old SL LA and did that kind of thing there so it should not be new to her. I'm hoping CW will be similar to the old SL b/c that worked for us. Thank you again so much! I am very much looking forward to trying CW now! :D
  2. Yes! That does help! Thank you!!!! So if I have the Aesop book could I just teach her the sections on outlining, dictionary, etc this summer and start B in the fall?
  3. My girls love the Elsie Dinsmore books. There is some old fashioned 1800's courting when her father- and later she herself get married but the carracter content is great! There are also books on Millie, Violet (Elsies' daughter), Kathleen and one on Laylie in the series. HTH! :)
  4. Thank you both for your responses. They were very helpful! :) Siloam, I think I've read on your posts to others that one should always start with Aesop A and not B b/c they need the skills in A. My dd is great at narration and dictation and she is finishing FLL 3 this week. Could she start with B? The more I read about CW the more I think it would be a good fit for us (especially if it doesn't take an hour!;)) I just wonder if some of it might be too easy for her after FLL3 and WWE? And at the same time I wonder if it would be too complicated for me to teach? I guess I need to just order the book and figure it all out- but these suggestions are always helpful!:001_smile: I figure that I always have my WWE book on the shelf it I decide we can't live without it- but I'm looking forward to the idea of having grammar, writing, spelling, etc all together!
  5. Hello! I posted last week and asked about doing Latin and WWE and no other grammar. Then I picked back up LCC and thought that I should do CW instead of WWE since I wouldn't be doing any other grammar or spelling for dd(4th next year). But then I heard that Aesop takes an hour to do everyday. Is that true? How overwhelming is it compared to WWE. I feel way out of my comfort zone with the progym.... I think I might like to try it but wanted to hear from others b4 I bought it. I guess I don't have a specific question:001_huh: but would appreciate any thoughts! :)
  6. We also like the readers (Primer- 3) and Burgess!
  7. Caroline- Where does First Form fit into the PL, LC1, LC2, Henle cycle? Are you not worried about them not doing diagramming? Targhee- I agree with you about spelling. I would have her learn the spelling for the English words as well as the Latin. Thank you both! Anyone else with experience with this?
  8. Thanks Heather! So is there enough diagramming and things like that?
  9. As I was sitting here this morning with dd8s' Latin, spelling, FLL3, Math, and WWE I was wondering, could I use Latin for spelling and grammar too? For example, could I take her vocab words and make them into her spelling words? And would there be enough grammar in LC1 & LC2 & Henle that I could just not use another grammar curriculum? That way we'd have latin, math and writing to do in a day. Could that work? I know many use the LCC but that still uses CW and Harvey's. I'm wondering if just WWE and Latin would be enough. Any thoughts?
  10. Vol 1 is a great place to start, IMO, b/c most of the books are more well-known. The Ladies on the FIAR Forum are GREAT and can help you with choosing books. We have done B4 and all 3 volumes and are in Vol 4 now (in between SOTW) and all of them are excellent! And of course Homeschool share is a great resource! :)
  11. You should check the FIAR forums on their website. The ladies there are great!!!!!
  12. Thank you both! It seems as though they have good quality material! I think my girls would enjoy it! :)
  13. I would say "YES!!!!" to the workbook! Everything is laid out for you (your child) and it runs smoothly with both. I am one that usually skimps on stuff like that to save money but I think this one is worth it! :)
  14. I was just wondering if anyone had done the "Life of Faith" Bible Study based on the Elsie Dinsmore dolls. A few homeschool families from church were thinking about doing this "club" (?)/ Bible Study. I was just interested in hearing the experiences of others if there are any! Thanks!
  15. Another suggestion for book 2. My dd in doing WWE2 with FLL3 and it is working well!
  16. I few weeks ago we hit a bump in FLL3 and I took a week off and did some of R&S 3. I then realized how spoiled I had been by having the diagrams all laid out and having everything scripted for me. We switched back to FLL and are doing GREAT! I would recommend it over R&S 3. Also, if you plan on using R&S for 5th grade on it might be nice to do FLL 3&4 so they aren't "burned out" on the R&S books when they get to the upper levels. Just a thought! :)
  17. I LOVED Shel Silverstein as a child an memorized all of "Hungry Mungry".If I could memorized THAT at 7 it's encouraging to my girls b/c they are never asked to memorize anything that long. I don't use his stuff for memory b/c I'd rather them know scripture or "real" poetry, but for fun I think it's great! :) For any Johnny Cash fans out there Shel wrote "A Boy Named Sue" :)
  18. Could you use the text of WWE and choose your passages from scripture? Just an idea....
  19. Thanks Ladies! I just ordered level 2 workbook! It sounds like it will be a big help! :)
  20. I know this has probably been asked but are there going to be workbooks for the rest of WWE after level 4? I know there will be a WWE textbook for logic- then high school- but will they ALL have 4 workbooks each like grammar stage? Those who are using workbooks on levels 1 & 2- do you think it makes it easier to have it all laid out for you or is there so much there that it's overwhelming? Thank you for your help! :)
  21. Ladies- thank you so much for your responses!!!! This forum is such a blessing! :grouphug: flockofsillies, I appreciate your long response. I agree that I don't want her to learn to give up on challenging things 100%! I also don't want her to feel like she has to rush through something frustrating because she needs to "keep up". I always felt like I was just trying to "keep up" in school and never really got to LEARN. After looking at all of your advise I think that b/c I already have R&S 3 I will take a week or 2 and review what she knows while WE;) memorize the definitions of what we don't know and then move ahead! We don't have to be done with the book by the end of the public school schedule so I think we'll just slow it down but still push forward! I think we are both getting a great classical education!:001_smile: Thank you all so much!!!!
  22. Thank you both so much for responding! Aderienne, thank you for the brake down- that is very helpful! I myself will memorize it! ;) Mama Lynx- you made a good point I hadn't thought of yet- she IS doing Latin so maybe we need to really pound it in now? We're using Prima Latina but so far it is mostly just vocab and she LOVES it! Any idea how long I have before she/we would be learning grammar in latin? I just thought that maybe we'd do a little of R&S 3 to review all the diagramming she already knows before moving on. I've looked ahead in FLL3 and a lot of it looks like the grammar in R&S 5. I could be wrong though. I am so thankful for the advise here!
  23. Hello- I'm a little embarrassed to ask (I never had grammar in school) but my dd8 and I are in lesson 38 in FLL3 and are so frustrated! Does an 8 year old need to really understand predicate nominative/adjective/direct object diagramming? She has loved this book up until this point and all of a sudden we are both overwhelmed. Should we push through it and know that we'll get it again next year? (and the next, and the next....) or should we switch to R&S where the #3 book has simpler diagramming? Thanks for any advise!:)
