Popular Post ktgrok
She just finished up her second round of testing for the lung transplant process - 5 whole days of tests. She has lost quite a bit of weight (and they told her this is NOT a race, please make sure to eat enough calories/protein), her pulmonary rehab has gone REALLY well and she is now (with oxygen) at 103% of what they expect a woman her age to be able to do!! AKA, passed with flying colors. She also aced the cognition test - she said they were really impressed with her memory. One test was having to name as many things as she could that started with a certain letter in 20 seconds. They afterward told her that the average person can name 11 - mom named 22!!! In bad news, the surgeon says he could NOT advise a double lung transplant, only a single, as the previous lung surgery she had years ago would make it too difficult to operate on the right lung - they wouldn't be able to reconnect things properly. They did say she'd be able to survive with a single healthy lung - it would get her off oxygen and give her quality of life. In good news, their dog can move up with them if/when she's approved to relocate up there! They believe pets help people heal. In bad news, my dad is a TERRIBLE wheel chair driver, lol. He said if there was a drivers test for pushing a wheel chair he'd likely fail it. Mom was terrified, lol. In good news, she recognized that when he's not being as helpful as she wants, as quickly as she expects, it is because he's afraid of hurting her, and is nervous. She hadn't really understood that before I guess, so that's good for her to know. Knowing that she will be MUCH more patient with him, which is a very good thing. She also recognizes how exhausted he was from all the stress - dad hates doctors, so this was a LOT of doctoring- and is glad he will have their dog up there with them for stress relief if/when they relocate and she is in the hospital. Anyway, that's the update - just got off the phone with her. They are driving back home tomorrow but not sure they will make it all in one day as they have to stop and let her walk every hour since she had a cardiac cath procedure today to check her arteries (clear). 49

Laura Corin
That's a great update. My aunt lived normally for many decades with only one lung, including giving birth to a healthy daughter.
