For those who have hit pay wall, Florida sheriff of Marion County has banned deputies from wearing masks, and people who are in police offices are not allowed to wear them either.  Some exceptions are made for deputies in places like the jail, the hospital, and the court house.

What and why!?  That's nuts.  I've seen plenty of crazy from the other side coming out of Wisconsin too.  My kid in theory is returning to college there.  Do you have a news link for that?

I hadn't heard this. Someone dear to us spent his whole career working for the WI DNR. I am sure he is laughing in his grave right now. Thank you very much for posting, as the thought of that brightened my day (the 2 year anniversary of his death is coming up, and I am not really handling it well).

OP, sorry for momentarily bringing down the thread.

RE: the request that DNR employees in WI wear masks when teleconferencing with the public:

“We ask staff to wear masks when on externally facing calls is that, taken out of context, a screenshot of a staff person or high ranking department official, if not properly attributed, could be misinterpreted to suggest that state employees are not properly following the Governor’s directive,” she said to McClatchy.

This sort of thing is what makes more skeptical people want to ignore ALL the policies on it. Keep it practical and evidence based, not virtue signaling nonsense, and most folks will go along. Sheeeeeezh.

YES.   If the rules were based on science, data, risk, etc then I think more people would gladly go along with them.

Michigan rulers lost a lot of respect when bars and casinos could open but not out door masked hair cutters.

I can actually see the sense in that.

There was a photo of my governor hugging his grandchild (no mask) outside and the AWKs went bananas! It was just...bizarre. I was like, good grief, people! Do you think he wears a mask 24-hours a day?

Here’s the interesting bit. You can read a few articles about this and will see that two reasons are given, think whatever you want. 1- to set a good example for others. And 2- they do not want a screen shot taken of a DNR employee without a mask to go viral with all the idiots screaming see! They don’t follow the govenor’s rule, why should we?

Now when I googled it, I found the second article from Fox. They only give the first reason, not the second one from the DNR spokesperson. It’s just another way they try to con people and rile up their base of viewers.

And wearing a mask for a few minutes while on a zoom call with members of the public does not risk anyone's health or safety. A Sheriff who refuses to allow police officers to wear a mask is potentially risking the health and safety of every officer and everyone they come into contact with, from their own families and fellow officers to the members of the public they interact with every day. People may think the DNR issue in WI is silly, but at least it's not going to spread disease or kill anyone.

This kind of thing happens to our governor too.
