S/O what glasses do you recommend for everyday use?

Oh, darn, I'm so sad you don't want glass because I almost put my recommendation for glasses in the other thread! â˜ºï¸ If you definitely want plastic that has no "plastic" scent, I can't help you. But if you just wanted good glassware that will last forever, I would recommend the restaurant-supply glasses I bought like twelve years ago. They remain perfect. They haven't gotten chipped edges, cracks, scratches or anything. But alas, they would shatter if they fell on the hard tile floor.

I tried those polycarbonate plastic "glassware" at one time because it was supposed to be the ideal plastic drinking "glass," but it did not last as advertised. I don't remember exactly what went wrong with them but I know I threw them all away within a few years.

I know you said no glass, but I am going to plug this style anyway:

They are tempered glass, and super sturdy. They are a nice size, and easy to hold. At one point I managed the glass department for crate&barrel, so I have handled a ton of glasses, and I am ready to toss everything else I own and use only this kind from Ikea.

A few years ago, I searched for the ultimate plastic tumbler  . . .

I ended up choosing Bentley 20oz tumblers. I got like 20 or so, in all sorts of colors.

They've been in heavy use for about 2-3 years, and they're doing great.

I wanted something with no "lip" around the bottom, as it drives me crazy when cups come out of the dishwasher with water on the "bottom" (which is UP). I wanted plastic, indestructible, and lots of colors.

I know they are stupid expensive. I spent like $100 on plastic cups, lol, but I'm hoping they'll be in use for decades.

Those look great! I can't wait to try them. Thank you.

What a fun job! My kitchen China, glass, and silverware are all from C&B. But I love Ikea's too -- going there always makes me wish I had a completely empty beach cottage to furnish, lol. Edited by Alessandra

I bought a set of Zak Designs Tumblers about 6 years ago that we've used hard and look almost new. They look like Solo cups, only in happy colors. I don't think they still sell them.

I thought this was about eye glasses. So glad I read the replies

I'm so obtuse that I thought it was about eye-glasses even after reading the responses.

The "smell factor" seemed slightly odd to me (but hey, glasses sit pretty close to one's nose) and some folks are sensitive (I suppose).

Even reading your response made me think, "it is about eye-glasses." So I've re-read the thread. I'm now 80/20 sure that we're talking about drinking glasses. Yuck! Plastic. I think not.

Same with eye-glasses in the 20% chance this thread is about spectacles.

Glass!

Lol Bill. My first thought was smell by nose and then breakage could mean they need polycarbonate like my toddler lol. And now that I've googled Trivex I see that is for eye glasses.

Maybe other factors can be changed as well to avoid the breakage. Like a rug by the sink or the accident-prone area. Less handling of cups by youngsters? Once it's on the table it stays on the table instead of being moved around the house.
