UncleEJ
Does anybody have any experience with chicken pox after the vaccine? Is is possible or common? ETA: I don't mean directly after receiving the vaccine but later. Edited June 3, 2017 by UncleEJ
rdj2027
Yes, my oldest was vaccinated and came down with it a couple of years later in school. He had a rather severe case while his younger brothers' (who were not yet vaccinated) infections were pretty mild.
JBJones
My DD (14 1/2) just got exposed to chicken pox about two weeks ago. She was up to date on all of her vaccines. It's been a very mild case compared to when I got them back in the early 70's.
Junie
Five of my six children got their chicken pox vaccines at the same time. One of them ended up with chicken pox. I was told that the vaccine had an 80 percent success rate. My family proved the statistic. ;) The child who got the chicken pox had a very mild case and, strangely, it was only on one half of her body. It was like someone drew a vertical line on her body and she was only infected on one side. :confused1: Edited June 3, 2017 by Junie

Ausmumof3
Not after the vaccine but I know people who have had the virus in childhood and had it again later. I'm not sure if it was a slightly different strain or their immunity waned over time.
PinkyandtheBrains.
My youngest got the chicken pox a couple years later, but it was very mild.
HS Mom in NC
Yep. A couple of years after they came out a kid at our church music camp came down with them even though she'd been vaccinated the first year they came out.
mom@shiloh
My five oldest children were never vaccinated for chicken pox. They all had it. My five youngest children were ALL vaccinated for chicken pox. They all had it as well. My confidence in the vaccine isn't very high.
Katy
Yes, and I know someone my age who's had chicken pox multiple times. For some reason her body doesn't hold immunity to it.
Rachel
Yes. All three of my kids got it shortly after my youngest was vaccinated. It was an extremely mild case though. When I had chickenpox as a child, I was really sick.
UncleEJ
Thanks for all the replies. I think DD has chicken pox. She received both doses of the vaccine. It seems to be mild so far, I noticed the first three spots the day before yesterday. Then about 6 more last night and 3 more today. She doesn't have a fever or feel bad at all. Hopefully that will be the worst of it. I first thought it was some sort of bug bites but the way they are just popping up doesn't make sense. And they look just like chicken pox. You see it more often with shingles (same virus, different type of rash). SaveSave
kroe1
Yep. Dd had a very mild case, only fever and about 5 or 6 pox. Then, she had a mild case of shingles about 9 years later.
J-rap
Four of my children had the chicken pox before the vaccine was out. Only #5 was able to have the vaccine, and she still got the chicken pox a few years later. It was very mild. I had just brought her to nursery school and noticed a few suspicious mark, and I was talking to the teacher about it, another parent walked in who happened to be a doctor. He took one quick look at her and diagnosed her on the spot. Handy!

FaithManor
Mine were fine. But I have one niece who stubbornly did not develop titers. She had the series, then had a bad case of chicken pox after exposure in preschool, and everyone thought, okay she is immune now. Nope two years later, another exposure, and another case of pox. Other than that, I do not know anyone rise who had a case after vaccination.
Caclcoca
Two of my four children got chicken pox two years after they received the vaccine. It was a very mild case for both of them.
