moonlight
I tried to search for previous threads, but didn't have much luck. Looking for Physics for a 12 year old..He is doing Algebra right now, but I am not looking for a physics program that is math heavy at this point. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks! PeachyDoodle
We're looking at Noeo Physics II (or possibly a combination of II & III) for next year. I can't decide if it's rigorous enough, but dd isn't ready for a math-heavy curriculum yet, even thought she loves science. Listening in! :bigear:
foxbridgeacademy
Exploration Education or use the Conceptual Physical Science-e book from Hewitt (made for H.S.) and do Tops units with it.

Pod's mum
Here's another option, Simple Schooling Middle School Physics... http://simpleschoolingclassroom.com/index.php/free/free-physics/547-middle-school-physics-portal I bought this through Currclick a while back and plan to use it soon, so can't give you a review of this particular programme sorry. However we used a few of their others, both their brief and longer products and I was impressed. We haven't used the online options. This programme is now available free, via this link. EndOfOrdinary
Thames and Kosmos make kits designed to be discovery method physics. They come with a lab manual and as you go through the lessons making the various experiments you learn the concepts. The kits are reusable and top notch. Slim to no math, but formulas are introduced to explain the concepts such as increasing mass increases the force even if acceleration stays the same.

The web site sounds good, but seems to be defunct? I couldn't download without logging in and couldn't set up a log-in? There are disheartening looking highlighted lines that say the owner will resume selling the program in May of 2014. So, Pod's mum, if it is really good, don't tell us!
Reefgazer
This is the path we'll be going in next year. Some hands on activities, coupled with a higher physics level than you would generally see in. Middle school. Exploration Education or use the Conceptual Physical Science-e book from Hewitt (made for H.S.) and do Tops units with it.

He LOVES it, especially because it ensures he actually gets to do science everyday. :). We've been supplementing with Crash Course videos and it's working well.

My web search was unsuccessful, so I explained to myself that I didn't need any more curriculum right now. I was okay with that, but now that there are links! I will merrily go check them out.

Miss Tick
My ds has really enjoyed Hewitt's Conceptual Physics (the high school book). Can you tell me how you use the book? Do you walk through the chapters together, or does your ds read it on his own? Do you assign problems or work then together? Do you need answers or are the problems straight forward? I have a copy and was matching up some chapters to BFSU 2 for next year, but I'm unsure how to plan those.

I have a copy and was matching up some chapters to BFSU 2 for next year, but I'm unsure how to plan those. I do assign him some of the end of chapter work. He does the reading, and then the assigned work, independently, and then I check the answers. I did buy a copy of the TM because I found it inexpensively, and that has saved me time in figuring out if his answers were correct, though most are pretty straighforward.

But I have to check this out, because all else the same, I prefer a secular class. Thanks Arcadia!
