ILiveInFlipFlops
*sob* I bought 2 6-packs of Philly cream cheese at BJ's yesterday because they were on a fantastic sale, with an expiration date in July. When we came home, DD9 helped me unload the car and put them down on the dining room table, behind a box :-( And that's where they sat until 10 minutes ago, when she asked me why I never put them away. I didn't even know they were there! Are they at all salvageable? Would you eat some today? Keep them any longer than that? I could just cry. This is the second big food waste this month. I feel like no matter how hard I try to save money on the grocery budget, we end up throwing money away.
SparklyUnicorn
Yup. I often leave it out all night if I want to use it in a recipe. I've done it many times. If they go bad you will know it.
Snickerdoodle
Absolutely! I would throw the extras in the fridge and not think twice about it.
mathmarm
Yes. I would not even think twice about it. I often leave Cream Cheese on my counter if I'm eating on the bar through out the day or next couple of days because I like it soft/spreadable.
AMJ
room temp in the 70's or cooler? Unopened packages? Should be safe for being left out overnight.
SparklyUnicorn
Oh and sometimes I take it out to let it soften for a recipe and then change my mind and throw it back in and then take it out again a week later. LOL Trust me you will know if it is bad. It will start to mold. It's pretty obvious.
Stacia
It's fine. I would definitely use/eat it.
FarmingMomma
It'll be fine. Commercial dairy products are so pasteurized that it really isn't a problem. Throw it in the fridge.
Jean in Newcastle
Sure. Eat it. or Store it in the fridge to eat later.
justasque
Yep, this is an easy one. I'd eat it, and I'd refrigerate it and eat more of it later.

ILiveInFlipFlops
Hooray!!! I knew cream cheese is pretty hardy--we definitely keep it for a long time in the fridge. But I wasn't sure about the room temp part. Thank you all! And DD and I had a talk about putting all groceries in the kitchen when they're brought in, and I'll do better about doing a sweep of the WHOLE area after shopping
MEmama
Yes. With zero concerns. I'm guessing it could sit out for a week with no ill effects.
Katy
Cheeses are already fermented. I only throw them out if they go moldy or they get too dry because someone left the block unwrapped.

Tanaqui
Please do not eat cream cheese that's been sitting out for seven years. 1
Terabith
I’m absolutely petrified of food poisoning. I never let my children lick the spoon when baking because of raw eggs. I’m a strong “when in doubt, throw it out” person, and I wouldn’t hesitate on this. Totally fine.
