Dana
I was just going to post that! Love it, and it's still just as good as when I first watched it. The younger brother plays Lestrade in the BBC Sherlock. Rewatched it recently :) And adding to the list...just a TV show, but awesome...As Time Goes By. Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. Happy
I prefer the 1995 version of Persuasion. Sigh... Another movie I love which has a gentle pace and story is "Lars and The Real Girl.' Charming, sweet, and a bit on the quirky funny side. Ryan Gosling stars...

*Lulu*
Any movie with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Yes! I think Deskset and Adam's Rib are two of my favorites! I also love The Women (1939), Bringing Up Baby (Hepburn isn't in The Women...but it is so good!)

kubiac
The film Sweet Land, with Elizabeth Reaser, was absolutely beautiful. So well acted, engaging, excellent storyline, family friendly (though not necessarily entertaining for children, I wouldn't feel the need to soho them out of the room, either). I was just coming to post this. <3 <3 <3 One of my all-time favorite films. Another would be Wong Kar-Wai's In the Mood for Love.
umsami
"Random Harvest" is a good one with Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson. Audrey Hepburn in "A Nun's Story" "Goodbye Mr. Chips" "An Affair to Remember" "Penny Serenade" "The Women" 1930s version, not the remake :) "Dr. Zhivago" "My Life as a Dog" "Out of Africa" Any of the 50s Bible films…or "Song of Bernadette"

Slartibartfast
I find the new version of Jane Eyre with Michael Fassbender to be very relaxing. I am not sure why I find it very relaxing, my husband has caught me putting it on when I am having trouble sleeping because I find it oddly soothing. I am not sure if it is the music, which is lovely, or that they talk much quieter than in other versions of Jane Eyre that I have seen. Cosmos
2001: A Space Odyssey. Of course there are moments of intensity, but it fits SLOW and QUIET. Long periods of silence and very few words at all.
