MunRoLy
We love watching movies together as a family, but I think we need something new! I have 2 girls (15 and 10) and 2 boys (13 and 7). We love all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Lord of the Rings, Avengers, and just recently watched all 4 Mission Impossibles. We also watch Disney and Pixar. A few weeks ago we watched Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow) for my birthday, but the kids were pretty bored... especially the boys. We need some more exciting (mostly clean) movies to watch as a family. Recommendations? Thanks!
jen3kids
How about some old Disney movies, like Flubber, Apple Dumpling Gang, Herbie the Love Bug, Doctor Dolittle, The Shaggy Dog, Swiss Family Robinson, The Absent-minded Professor. Some of Cary Grant's movies are pretty funny - Arsenic and Old Lace, Father Goose, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home, Operation Petticoat. MunRoLy
Old Disney movies are a great idea! We've seen some of those, but not all. Also, I love Carey Grant movies!!! I just hadn't thought about showing those to the kids! Great ideas.

Liz CA
We enjoyed the "Road to Avonlea" series. The children are not mostly girls like in "Anne of Green Gables" so my son was more interested.

applethyme
We like the old Disney movie "Snowball Express". I laugh through it each time we watch it. Esther Williams or Doris Day movies are fun to watch as well.

MommaOfalotta
My dd and I love the Harry Potter series (I'm not sure of your view on them, I know some people dont approve..) We are BIG Disney fans but I'm not even going to start listing titles or I won't stop ;) She recently fell in love with Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder version.) I hate it with a passion. Transformers (all of them) Dd used to be obsessed with Shiloh. If you have Netflix you might enjoy picking a series to watch together. My dd and I loved watching Lost together.. (all 6 seasons, lol.) I just put on subtitles so when an inappropriate word came up I could see it and either hit mute or just holler Heyaknwhfbd! lol We are a movie family. Big time! But for some reason I am drawing a serious blank here...

Ali in OR
We've enjoyed introducing the girls to a few favorites from our era like A League of Their Own Field of Dreams (both were probably in our softball era!) Princess Bride Star Wars (they've only seen the original 3 since dh and I aren't crazy about the rest) Someone up above mentioned Fantastic Mr. Fox and Wallace and Grommet--love those! And now my girls play around with stop motion animation with their cameras and dolls. And the most-viewed DVDs in the house would be Enchanted, Tangled, and the HP series. Ellie
Star Wars (they've only seen the original 3 since dh and I aren't crazy about the rest) There's no point in seeing the others. And I don't care what anyone says: the original three will always be Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Hmph. LucyStoner
Other baseball movies I haven't seen mentioned: Little Big League Rookie of the Year The Rookie Sandlot II Bad News Bears (very 70s) Not a baseball movie but Whip It is a fun sports/teen/family movie that appeals to girls and boys. It's about a family in Texas and roller derby. Ellen Page is the lead. Whip it and Bad News bears would be best for the older kids.
creekland
I'm going to 3rd (maybe 4th?) Secondhand Lions. It's a great movie that tends to be loved by all ages. The Blind Side, October Sky, and Apollo 13 are others I saw that I'll give extra kudos to. Also, I haven't seen Jumangi or Chicken Run (animated) listed yet. They consistently rank high when we show them to kids/families. Gifted Hands is also one I'd recommend. When your youngers are a little older, then Temple Grandin is superb for teaching about autism. I think someone listed it, so it's another I'm giving extra kudos to.

Kebo
I am adding a movie I just watched: Buck. It's a documentary about a horse trainer -- a consult for the movie The Horse Whisperer, which I haven't yet seen, but would probably also be a good family movie. Buck was awesome, very inspiring, sad at times. I am planning on having the whole family watch it.
Baseball mom
Agree with a lot of the movies already listed. There are 3 Sandlot movies - like all 3 but the 1st one the best School of Rock -- forgot about this one. It is a favorite around here Harry and the Hendersons The Longshots
