Chelli
I really liked the movie Lost in Austen. It's kind of a fantasy version of Pride and Prejudice. As long as you don't care about things working out exactly like the book, then it's fun!
MeaganS
Bride and Prejudice is fun. There are TONS of "fanfiction" books out there that explore what-ifs. Some are better than others. I've read many as they are sort of my guilty pleasure. If you go to fanfiction.net you'll find hundreds of various quality for free. Or you can search on Amazon for published ones. Word Nerd
Bride and Prejudice is fun. I don't like the guy who's Darcy in that one, but it's fun to watch—especially if you are/were a LOST fan.

Not high quality but it is definitely p&p as you've never seen it before!
Stayseeliz
Okay maybe more an addict than I thought. I've seen all those too. :)
SpecialClassical
I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and saw a book written from the perspective of the servants of P& P. Sorry, I don't know the title, but a quick search at B&N.com should do the trick. I was thinking how funny it would be to read what servants thought of Mrs. Bennett. Susann
Not a modern version, but, I just read this one this weekend and really enjoyed it. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9751382-mr-darcy-and-the-secret-of-becoming-a-gentleman
AngieW in Texas
It's killing me that we're down just 2 videos/week now. I liked having videos on M/Tu/Th/F. Going down to just M/Th is rough, especially since I teach in the morning on both of those days, so I have to wait until lunch to see the video. Pink Fairy
An Assembly Such as This is a good one, the first of a series of three. The second one is horrible, imo, but the first and last are surprisingly great.
sgo95
An Assembly Such as This is a good one, the first of a series of three. The second one is horrible, imo, but the first and last are surprisingly great. I thought the trilogy (by Pamela Aidan) was pretty good (I agree that the 2nd book was my least favorite) but for some reason, I found the language harder to read than actual Jane Austen novels. I've recommended this before in another Jane Austen thread, but I suggest trying something by Georgette Heyer. One of my favorites by Heyer is The Grand Sophy. Laura Corin
I'm reading Evelina, by Frances/Fanny Burney. Definitely interesting (a precursor) for a Jane Austen enthusiast. Laura
shanvan
I'm reading Evelina, by Frances/Fanny Burney. Definitely interesting (a precursor) for a Jane Austen enthusiast. Laura :iagree: Also try Maria Edgeworth's novels. Belinda and Helen are two of my favorites. Jane Fairfax by Joan Aiken was also very good. And the rec for Maria Edgeworth - also look up Georgette Heyer. The Grand Sophy was one of my favorites by Heyer, but they're all fun. Reading all of those will keep you busy. On the kindle look for 'girlebook classics'. There are several fun authors on there.

amyk
Even though it isn't the same genre or anything, I had forgotten about The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde and sequels until I read this post. Very fun and imaginative books which only have a little bit to do with Jane Austen.
amyk
Ok, after I posted I realized that I don't actually remember if it has anything to do with Jane Austen (who is NOT the author of Jan Eyre!)--but all kinds of literary figures pop up, so I wouldn't be surprised! Orthodox6
An Assembly Such as This is a good one, the first of a series of three. The second one is horrible, imo, but the first and last are surprisingly great. I agree that the second book of the series is absurd and contributes nothing interesting. Although I enjoyed the first and third books, a little bit, I feel that the author over-feminized Mr. Darcy's responses and thoughts. He emerges a bit too sappy for my taste. Any reader would recognize that a woman wrote the book, and that she has small-to-moderate understanding of how men are. What I do like are the side-plot elements involving his sister and Lord Dyfed. And it was only 99 cents on the kindle. Fun read!
