I am working on one now. I have it mostly finished. I just have to make it fully scheduled. I am using it for first grade. I have posted about it here, but it wasn't finished.

http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29571

It involves lessons in Draw Write Now along with my own plans for using the library. There is an emphasis on animals/ecology/climate in the first lesson and culture in the next one for about 22 Countries. Let me know if you want me to send the finished product along.

Draw Write Now books 7 and 8 are very inexpensive and they have a full curriculum plan included.... but their suggestions are for geography with ecology, not culture.

We are using this for geography- http://home.wi.rr.com/penzky/geograph.htm

I don't think any list of free curriculum should be without this one-

http://http://oldfashionededucation.com/fullcurriculum.htm

Old Fashioned Education is a free complete curriculum, I think they have to 11th grade done, and even all the books are things that are available free online.

Could we have this thread be a sticky?

Geography: http://www.ala.org/ala/alsc/alscresources/booklists/GrowingUpAroundWorld.cfm

Through Growing Up Around the World, we hope to make books that accurately depict contemporary life in other countries more widely available to American children. The project includes bibliographies representing five regions: Africa; the Americas; Asia and the Middle East; Australia and New Zealand; and Europe.

I am trying to update this thread as I see more listed elsewhere on the boards. I hope no one minds.

Invitations to Science Inquiry

I have had this book for 15 years! I was missing some pages and wanted to order a new one. Well, I saw the prices on Amazon and quickly changed my mind.

I found a pdf on eric and was just dumbfounded.

OMG!!!! Free!

Just found this fantastic site - www.teachersdomain.org. I think it's from PBS. They have video clips covering all sorts of science topics. I haven't seen United Streaming, but I'm guessing it's a somewhat similar, although smaller, free version. Right now it's all science, but the site states that it will be expanding to include language arts, social studies and math in the fall. It looks like a great supplement for our curriculum.

When we started I typed in "spanish alphabet" in the youtube search bar and started browsing some videos. We found some that fit our family in the form of songs. The kids watched them and learned pretty quickly. Then they found some Boca Beth Spanish videos that taught the numbers, colors, animals, and shapes. From there we went to the Mommy Teach Me Spanish videos where they focus on a certain subject like food and they teach all the phrases and sentences pertaining to food and eating. It has been an inexpensive way of teaching our children. I am sure as they advance in their skills we will need a more organized plan but for the basics it is working well.

Latin for Beginners

The blurb on the site says,

Learn Latin with this free latin textbook. D'Ooge designed this beginners grammar to prepare the student for reading Caesar. The grammar consists of seventy-nine lessons divided into three parts.

First Greek

Download this free first year Greek book. Sir William Smith's A First Greek Course was popular throughout the United Kingdom from about 1867 through 1960. This is a first year Greek textbook which is intended for learners with no Greek experience. The book, divided into only 33 lessons, presents compact discussions and exercises in only 214 pages. Highlights of this book include a useful syntax index and summary of syntax examples in the book's appendix. Also found in the appendix are a vocabulary of exercises, general vocabulary and English-Greek vocabulary.

See the rest of the site for answer keys and other Ancient Greek and Latin resources.

This site has and outline of scientists and mathematicians listed under the

historical period in which they lived. It then has lists of books (in the

column on the right) that are arranged by time period and grade levels

(including picture books) about these scientists and mathematicians and what they discovered.

n-US/Default.aspx

If you check the tab called Reader Lists, there are books arranged by math concepts starting with early concepts: matching, sorting, counting, and relationships.
