  1. This is a complete art curriculum grades 1-8. It teaches everything step by step. Of special note, crayon drawing is taught in grades 1-3 as a form of painting with pages and pages of exercises using just 8 colors. See links below to see what was meant by a "crayon", before reading our initial misunderstanding of "crayons". Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 EDIT: added Amy Jo's link. Grade 4 http://books.google.com/books?id=iqBpAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false EDIT: Added Jniter's links for grades 5-7 Grade 5 https://books.google.com/books?id=oSN
  2. I finally finished our Earth Science and Astronomy Curriculum for next year! Here it is http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/earth-scienceastronomy/. It is based on WTM with some added extras:) Enjoy!
  3. Ok, I may have just hit the jackpot here, or at least this is how I'm feeling! Check out this MEGA bundle of printables that are all FREE! http://www.educents.com/educents-k-2-freebie.html Worth $78 but for free for a limited time only (and counting!) so claim it quick! So far so good, my kiddos are loving it! I hope you do too!!
  4. I updated my personal list and thought I would share. I tried to list stuff that seemed complete and whole: Whole Curriculum: Ambleside Online Ambleside Online Old Fashioned Education An Old-Fashioned Education (Preschool and some elementary) Brightly Beaming Resources Puritan Homeschool Curriculum. Contains many subjects but is religious. THE PURITANS’ HOME SCHOOL CURRICULUM Core Knowledge. Teacher jargon outline is at the beginning of each lesson. Scroll past this to get to the actual activity pages of the lesson. Core Knowledge Lesson Plans Math: Ray's Arithmetic Ray's Arith
  5. A little more rigorous? That's has less screen time but still has some. I was hoping I could find something already pulled together. I really don't have the time as I'm trying to recover from a really bad fracture and surgery. We had a plan for this year but it has to be put on hold. Any suggestions? Also has anyone dealt with this kind of thing? How do you keep schooling while laid up with an illness, injury or bed rest and what not?
  6. I'm trying to improve my own education and would like to read a few books that connect math, philosophy, literature, art, etc. and how to find the beauty in these subjects. I would be (hopefully) getting some of these for Christmas.:001_smile: Would anyone please help me make some good selections? I would appreciate any help. Also, if you have any other suggestions or better ones, I would love to know about these too. What do you think about the books linked? I would like a good book on ethics but saw so many online that I couldn't even decide where to start with this book. Philosoph
  7. Hi It seems like a lot of our posts for great camps, curricula classes, etc. are very expensive. I feel like I could spend a fortune to do this, but we need to pay for college too! ;) So, can everyone post their favorite free (or very low cost) thing from the past year or two? I think it would be nice to give us all some ideas- Here are mine MIT opencourseware http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm Paperback Swap (I guess you pay to mail books- but that is it) http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php Khan Academy http://www.khanacademy.org/ I should mention you tube as we
  8. Is there anything like Middle School Chemistry from the ACS for Phyics?
  9. Would anyone know of a free curriculum online that my daughter (7th grade) could use? I'm not looking for unit studies but like a curriculum that she could read online? We don't have the fund for history or science right now. I know I could go to the library , but tried that and hated having to take the books back.
  10. ......what program or curriculum company would you like to see take part in a blog giveaway? I'm planning on doing a "12 Days of Christmas" giveaway on my blog and I want to know who you want to see there! Here's a link http://thomasschooldays.blogspot.com/2011/09/big-plans-underway-12-days-of-christmas.html You can comment here, but commenting on the post itself would be best!
  11. Here's a link to it at google books: The Modern Speller I haven't used it yet, but I really like how words aren't learned in isolation. It incorporates the spelling with writing actual sentences from dictation. So, anyone had a glowing success or dismal failure with this program? :bigear:
  12. Does anyone know of any good, free or cheap high school courses online? We are on a very low budget for next year. 10th grade. Thank-you so much.
  13. Please share your favorite CM books and resources! I would love to see what your favorites would include, especially those you would like to see incorporated into a curriculum. Also, what are some vintage books you would love to see used in a curriculum or just happen to be a personal favorite of yours. Thanks! P.S. This would be for any/all subjects.
  14. Some of you are aware that many US military families ended up evacuating from bases around the Tokyo region a few weeks ago. (Was it really only a few months ago? This has been a rough Lent emotionally.) Many of the families are reluctant to register their kids in schools at their safe haven location because they have no idea how long they will stay there and don't want to uproot the kids again when they return to Japan. So they have been asking about homeschooling. Our lovely board members Jamee and Mommytobees (and I'm sure many many other homeschoolers) have been getting a lot of
  15. This was recommended on a local homeschool board. I have no personal experience but thought someone here might like to take a look. http://www.middleschoolchemistry.com/
  16. How would you do it? What would you use? I thought this would be a fun thread! :D It may also bless others who are looking for some options. :lurk5:
  17. Didn't want to junk up the curriculum boards so I thought I would post here. I am needed a dose of reality. We live on a very tight budget. I stay at home and this year my husband earned under $40,000. He also pays out over $6000 a year in child support and insurance. So after all the bills and food (sense I can't seem to get them to stop eating)lol there just isn't much left. I can't afford anything I want. Just to name a few. MFW to expensive even used, HOW added up to be over $300, HOD and TOG can't even afford to look at the website lol. And this is just history and a little science. Not t
  18. A friend e-mailed this to me this morning: Starting on January 3 and continuing through January, any teacher, aide, parent, or tutor may obtain a complete copy of Funnix Beginning Reading and Funnix 2, a 220-lesson sequence, FREE--no hidden charges, no handling fees, and no restrictions on how long you own your copy of the program. Funnix Hope this helps someone :)
  19. Last night I posted a link to their Classical Greek class but here is the link to all of their free courses just in case some of the other ones might be useful to somebody. http://www.openculture.com/2010/08/harvard_presents_free_courses_with_its_open_learning_initiative.html
  20. I don't know if this has been shared or not but this site is offering a free downloadable life science course - classic style. It is free in the hopes that you'll like it and buy his other three courses. It's around 700 pages total. I haven't used it yet so I can't give a review but it looks pretty good. http://www.eequalsmcq.com/classicsciinfo.htm
  21. The American Chemical Society has a terrific ebook called Inquiry in Action: Investigating Matter Through Inquiry available for free download. All the experiments use household materials, and it includes worksheets, lab sheets, discussion questions, teaching notes, and assessment rubrics. It looks like there are about 35-40 activities/experiments, grouped into 7 topics. It's designed for K-8 and it's really well done! Jackie
  22. I found this while looking for handwriting sheets. It's a really well set up site, full of good printables. My favorite aspect would be the sheer ease of it all! I hope this helps someone else too! Have a great day :D
  23. I'm just curious. I have found dozens of free links on my own and via this forum. I'm sure it can be done but just curious about who actually totally homeschools for free? I mean ALL free curriculum. Anyone or do you know anyone who does? How do you or they do it?
  24. I just found this site, and they are offering free beta tester memberships for a year, and they have TONS of lessons. Right now they have mostly K-3 years and subjects include Science, History, Reading/Phonics, Math, and Language Arts. http://www.lessonpathways.com/Home Classical homeschoolers will have to look through the pathways to match up lessons to go along with things like history, but I'm very impressed with how thorough and detailed they are, with lots of fun activities as well. I have no clue what they'll charge after the first free year, but I am finding lists of all kin
