Rebecca VA
What is he after? What's on my skin that makes him keep licking me so vigorously?
mamakim
No clue, but my goats lick my arms when they can reach them, too (when they're not trying to eat my hair, anyway). I've been assuming it's the saltiness?
simplyme99
My Shih Tzu does it to me too. I read somewhere the licking releases endorphins, so maybe he's getting high? LOL
Remudamom
Ask your vet about salt.
Big Buckin' Longhorn
Because you're delicious! Oh! He loves you. :)
cindergretta
I was always told they were licking for salt. I noticed my dog licking the heck out of dd12's legs today...
DawnM
I thought it was because of the salt on our dry skin?
SunnyDays
My dog is a licker too... but he loves it the most when I've put lotion on or used some other product on my skin.
KidsHappen
My dogs try it but I don't allow it. So they lick just about everything else in the house.
Belacqua
My cat, who doesn't even like me, licks me until I make her stop. I always figured I'm just salty. It certainly isn't affection in her case.
Isabella
Yes, it's probably the salt. You could try supplementing with a little salt given adlib. Just put a bit out in a small bowl, and see how much he takes. Pets are usually pretty good at only taking what they need of essential minerals. dm379
Maybe your lotion or bath products taste good.

Most/many pets will over indulge which is why so many end up with health issues or surgeries to correct. If you are feeding a commercially prepared diet then i would check the sodium content of the food before ever adding to it! It could be something as enjoying a taste of something on the skin as well as a behavioral issue. many dogs/cats will lick to show a sign of nausea but also nervous habits as well. swellmomma
My animals lick my son the most, I assume it is salt, they go after him like crazy after he has been sweating for a bit
