Would this freak you out?

Recommended Posts

I realized last week that not one child who ever lived in this house lived a normal healthy life. Some pretty major problems, others minor... but still, an odd coincidence. We've been house hunting for years and were about to give up, but now I can't stop thinking about getting out...now.

The original owners had one child who died young of muscular dystrophy. We have 5 children. #1 has alopecia areata, eczema, ADD, dyslexia and other LDs, and severe food allergies. #2 has a hearing loss and some definite anxiety/shyness issues. #3 has severe food allergies, mild asthma, slow growth. #4 (lucky girl) only has an egg allergy and mild asthma so far!. Our fifth child just got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis last week.

I'm *sure* I'm over-reacting (PMSing or something ) but I don't want my children to live here anymore! My son's diagnosis last week was the last straw. Other than my children's problems being related by genetics (immune system quirkiness), I don't think their problems are related to each other or "caused" by the house. But still... 6 for 6? :001_huh:

Would you be freaked out?

Sorry - it sounds overwhelming for you. But I would not be freaking out about the house. 5 of the 6 are YOUR kids and so that is the thing they have in common. And none of yours sound like they share anything with the original owner's child. If you built a new house and moved in, then 100% - every single child who lived there! - would have problems!

That in perspective - I can totally get wanting to get a *fresh start* in your situation. A new diagnosis for a child is very upsetting. But in your case, I think the issues will move right along with you into a new house.

If there were a longer history, of multiple different families, all with children with major health issues -- probably that would freak me out some.

But if I was the 2nd family to live in a house, and the people who lived there before had a child with a health issue, and I have children with health issues -- no, that wouldn't freak me out about the house. But then, we've never lived in one house long enough to even attribute one house to all 3 children's issues so that might skew my view a little.

I'm sorry you are reeling from the recent diagnosis, though. I realize it's a lot to take on, on top of all you deal with already. :grouphug:

Your family has received a lot of unfair/unfortunate problems for your kiddlets. I hope things will pan out for the best. Maybe your unconscious is trying to get you out of your environment because of the stress it puts on you.

I'll be praying for your family and sending lots of white light/postive thoughts your way!

Guess I'm just crazy then. :tongue_smilie:

Honestly, I'm handling the recent diagnosis better than most people I know would (and are) ...

I'll remember not to post weird questions when I'm PMSing, LOL!

:leaving:

Thanks for your thoughts.

My middle son was dx with JRA at age 4, but his symptoms started at age 2, and it took 2 years of not backing down, keeping meticulous records, and many, many appointments with many, many specialists to get the dx. We were in an older home at the time his symptoms started, and about 1 year into the journey we began to question if there was an environmental cause from the home, and he was our only son that was sick.

:grouphug: to you and your boy :grouphug:.

Amy,

Just so you know you are not alone, it would freak me out. Whether it is rational or not would not enter the equation.

Yeah, me too.

And developing immune systems are different from developed ones... If every one of my kids developed an autoimmune issue where none existed in my family prior, I would definitely be thinking environmental causes.

How old is the house?

Are you close to any toxic stations - power, waste management, etc?

When was the carpet last replaced?

What is the material the house is made from?

How often do you air it out?

When was the last time the duct work was checked?

What do you clean with? Do you clean often? Could you be cleaning to the point that you've "over disinfected?"

There are so many things that could be impacting your children's immune systems. A great many could very well be from the house. Not in an evil house is possessed freaky paranormal way. But as an allergen trigger, yes.

Yes it would freak me out.

There's a house in my home town that's got the reputation for giving all female adult that have lived there brain cancer.

The latest one had the house gutted and redone after she purchased it. She thought it was environmental mold and that she'd "fixed" the problem.

She's had a golf sized brain tumor removed last month and she's not expected to live much longer because it'd also spread.

Well, muscular dystrophy is genetic and inherited so that wouldn't freak me out.

Not sure about the difficulties your kids are having so maybe that would have me starting to think...especially the allergies and autoimmune disorders. I might have the home checked for mold or get anything allergy inducing out of the home...put in hardwood floors, make sure the basement isn't wet, etc...

I completely understand. :grouphug: It's not exactly the same situation, but my dd has a genetic disorder that can cause learning disabilities or mild mental retardation. We live in an up/down duplex, and the people that live downstairs are smokers. They SAY they only smoke outside, but there's this weird, sort of musty smell in the bedroom where my dd sleeps that I keep convincing myself is secondhand smoke. Now that I've convinced myself of that, ALL I can think about is moving. I spend half my day worrying that my poor dd is going to end up even more behind because of their secondhand smoke.

Rational? Probably not. I mean, secondhand smoke has a pretty distinctive smell, and this doesn't smell much like that. But when you think the health of your children might be at stake, you don't care about being rational. If it's going to drive you nuts worrying about it, I'd say do whatever you have to do to get some peace of mind.

Were these women related? How many cases of brain cancer altogether? That's just beyond freaky.

No relation. At least the last three owners of that home. Once is unfortunate. Twice is weird. Three is a pattern. All women. All of them had/have golf ball sized tumors in their brain.

I don't know, but I'm thinking yes. The last owner were chiropractors very much into healthy living & eating. I can't imagine they'd over look this when they gutted the house. They knew about the previous two owners. How to ask this now though with her still going through the horrible cancer treatments & surgery recovery.
