This is a bad horse summer for us.

Recommended Posts

Dh and I went out of town for a few days and when I got back I found my little Welara pony has possibly severed a tendon. I rushed her to the first vet, who gave her less than 50% chance of recovering.

Tomorrow I take her a few towns over to see a specialist. Dh says do what I need to do. He's big on time healing all wounds, but this is really bad.

This is my little cart pony. She's a baby doll, everyone loves her. Right now she's doped up and resting.

I'm very fond of this girl. Losing her would be pretty rough with Memphis gone.

Praying!!! Did not know you had lost Memphis...we only have two horses but after babying my Lena for a year now (abscess and now soft soles due to sooo much rain in the spring) I can't imagine an injury that requires work that I can't handle...hoping it recovers well....poor thing and poor you, sending good :grouphug:

Yes, Mimi died at the trainer's place a couple of days before I was to pick her up. I think she was tied, threw a fit and strangled herself but I'll never know.

(((Hugs))

Hold out hope and get that second opinion. My horse, Lady, severed her tendon about two years ago. You'd never know it now except for the scar. We ride her and she tears around like it was never injured. So, I am hoping that your pony will heal as well.

Faith

Wow, thanks. That's exactly what I need to hear.

We had a bad scare with our mare this summer. She cut her leg, the blood was spurting out (with the heart beat), and we feared she'd severed a tendon. We drove three hours to get her to a vet for stitches. She ended up being fine, but within a month we knew that my daughter's Arabian was going blind. We're keeping him as long as we can (as long as he's safe), but it's very hard on the heart.

All of us here hope your pony heals up wonderfully. :001_wub:

Sorry to hear this.

The Missouri Fox Trotter I bought had severed a tendon when he was young and with healing was perfectly sound---even did the across the state of MIchigan ride several times and those are 50 mile days.

Another local lady's yearling just did this as well. They had to cast to hold the foot in the proper place (I think then they did a removable cast so she could clean daily) but she is healing well too.

Keep us posted.

I'm so sorry this happened!

We had a mare who severed a tendon and she healed up just fine. She did it while...get this...climbing out through the window on a trailer. She was in the trailer with her colt and we had just taken him out and she freaked out and decided to join her colt then and there. She actually shoved her body through the window. Oh, no - she couldn't wait two minutes for us to turn around and get her out. She had to be out RIGHT NOW! We wouldn't have believed it if we hadn't seen her do it with our own eyes.

Anyway, she cut the tendon near one of her back hooves (can't remember which one exactly). She healed up fine - that foot was just a teensy bit floppy but she could still be ridden and was just fine.

Hope your mare heals up quickly!
