My kids would be okay layering, but wouldn’t like a heavy/warm winter coat. Especially if they’re walking in and out of school buildings. So a hoodie plus a lightweight hooded jacket that is wind and rain repellant. I’d look at Columbia and Northface. But we are more practical than stylish 🙂

I think this should be renamed since our kids are class of 2023 and that’s when they’ll be entering. Last years college acceptance thread was also called 2022, so to have the same name/year would be confusing. That said, my three all have acceptances to UCF (Univ of Central Florida), and are National Merit Semifinalists 🙂. They’re only applying to a few full ride schools, and UCF is one of their top two.

Is there a different job he could find? Some companies pay tuition on top of their paychecks for even their part time employees.

If he is overtired/overstimulated or even on the spectrum a bit, maybe a small weighted blanket would help calm him. Also, my ds really liked this Lycra suit thing from his ot. It hugged but was loose and stretchy at the same time. Another tool to calm down the nervous system. No kid likes feeling out of control, so it’s good to have tools he can use to help. And majorly agree about the artificial dyes among other additives.

I would have thought the school would assign her to a single room- a regular single room and not a suite. Unless they were thinking the dog would stay in her bedroom. Colleges usually have singles set aside for students with disabilities.

Isn’t there supposed to be some kind of watch or medical bracelet that detects falls and alerts someone (you)? If so, could he wear that? Then you can compare his falls and see if the facility tells you about it. Or if you have to call them to check on him.

I wish this had been on our radar to do after they took Bio and Chem freshman and sophomore year. Alas, never thought about it. And they had no desire to take them AP. So rising seniors, their potential schools require two sciences in the Gen Ed type categories. They would rather try to CLEP out than take 4 semesters of science in college. They will not need these for their major; they’re just general requirements. So what are your tips for passing these, and quickly? I don’t mind buying a book or app if it is really beneficial. Where did your kids find their practice tests?

Anyone else’s kids beginning the process? One dc got two apps done and submitted today and started his third. Realized after the fact that a few things should have been tweaked. The other two kids both have one ready for me to review tomorrow. They are just applying to three rolling admissions state schools (and possibly one more), but even so, I could tell the nerves were on edge. Or maybe they were mine. I had a headache by the end of the day. The goal is to get them done this week before school starts next week. They’ll have Honors college and NMF essays to write this fall. That’ll be enough. Lol. We've prepared for this moment . Now I just hope there’s no second guessing. They wanted to keep it easy and simple.

My moms place had one, for the place. It’s not like they have one for each room or even the wing. They disliked it because first they had to find out where it last was, move it from there to her room and set it in place. It was a hassle to them. Quicker to just move her with people. Or not move her at all until a later time. 🤷‍♀️

Just to add - I’d recommend waterproof chair pads/covers. They sell disposable ones in the incontinence aisle, or you can get heavy duty material ones that wash. They protect the lift chairs, and the sheets. Leakage does happen.

Once my mom needed more care and then hospice, she had to have a hospital bed. It’s for the caretakers, not the patient. She had her own bed while in regular assisted living, but then we had to switch it out. I would go with a hospital bed from the start. And talk to hospice first for their criteria.

Adding- the medical stores pick the size depending on the patients height and weight. If the chair is too big, they can’t get up out of it as safely. Google a medical supply store and you’ll find tons of options. I would buy from there vs a furniture store.

My moms recliner/lift chair had a battery backup. We bought the lift chair from a medical supply store. She spent more time in the chair than in bed. Hers had a remote to move it up and down as well that was attached to the chair.

When my kids get an infection going that hurts and is starting to look swollen and pus like, I have them do warm compresses throughout the day or next day if needed (actually moist washcloth inside heating pad). It seems to draw the pus/infection out. We cover with mupirocin and bandaids.

It may be that Medicare pays 100% for 21 days, and then a declining percentage. And at some point it goes to zero. I sort of remember having to pay the SNF for my mom to stay there and continue rehab longer.

Hugs. I hope it all goes well. and they may want to check for a uti as well when he enters the facility. UTIs did a number on my mom, both physically (made her so dizzy and weak) and mentally.
