  1. That sounds normal to me, too. For my son’s sport (swimming), they get Christmas Day off and then it’s practice as usual. My daughter (a gymnast) gets the day after Christmas, as well, but then it’s back to regular practice. Neither sport would expect a family to not travel in order to make every practice, but since cheer is more of a team sport, I’m not sure if that differs.
  2. We are in the midwest and we do 66 overnight and 67 when we are home. If I had my way, it would be a couple of degrees colder at night.
  3. And the brand I use is Wella Color-charm. I stock up when it is on sale. It looks like I was wrong on the developer price, it’s $7 and the color is buy one get one free. http://www.sallybeauty.com/wella-charm-20-volume-creme-developer/CLAIRL24,default,pd.html http://www.sallybeauty.com/wella-color-charm-permanent-liquid-nn-suede-shade-collection/SBS-800218,default,pd.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o6&scid=scplpSBS-800218&sc_intid=SBS-800218&utm_content=SBS-800218&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvJmp3In01wIVlIKzCh2byQeGEAQYBiABEgICT_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  4. The 32 ounce bottle of developer costs $13 and a 1.4 ounce bottle of color is under $5. I mix about 1 TBSP of color to 2 TBSP of developer and that is plenty for my hair. I usually get 3 uses out of a bottle of color and I’ve had the developer for years now.
  5. I buy hair color and developer from Sally Beauty and only mix enough to touch up the gray. It is much less expensive than buying a new kit every 6 weeks.
  6. I bought covers from PB several years ago and then purchased fill for them separately (I didn’t put the fill into a liner, just in the bag directly). I was shocked at how many bags of fill it took to fill the bean bag, plus the fill flattens and the you have to buy more. I easily have $150 invested in one bean bag. If it were to do it again, I would not use the normal fill, I would look for a better quality product (which would cost even more money).
  7. We paid that much to see it in Chicago; however, we had seats in front row of the mezzanine, so they were amazing! Only you know how much of a hardship that much money is to your family. There are a lot of things I can't or won't spend our money on, but this was something the whole family wanted to do do and my husband was on board with the purchase. I loved the show and I think it is the kind of thing that my kids are going to remember into adulthood. I would absolutely do it again. As for attempting to buy touring tickets, just be aware that the tour tickets will go quickly in most places - the Fox in St Louis sold out in an hour and it was chaos for those attempting to get seats, not to mention that I think ticket prices ranged from $200 to 4 or 500 dollars each.
  8. That would drive me crazy! I hate to say it, but I would be looking for a new volunteer opportunity. I hope it works out for you!
  9. What are the sign up procedures for volunteering? Do you have anyway of knowing how many will be there? Signing up to help with something only to find there are way more people there than needed is a huge pet peeve of mine. I would ask the volunteer coordinator about the staffing situation for the thrift store and give that a try. It's possible that if there are extra people, they will have you stocking the shelves or sorting donations. If that doesn't work, I would just keep socializing kitties and cleaning, as long as my back wasn't hurting.
  10. I moved to NYC after college, about 20 years ago. I was making $38k then and I tend to disagree about needing $100k there now; that certainly would be a nice amount to have, but you can definitely live on less. Yes, rents will be expensive, but getting a roommate can offset that. Not having a car saved a bunch on a car payment, taxes and insurance. I walked to work and to most places I went, but mass transit is plentiful and affordable. As far as having depression, it can be a long, gray winter, which I can imagine could be a problem. I was inline skating a lot when I moved there and met the people that eventually became my circle of friends on a group skate. I'm not sure how I would have made friends were it not for that. We moved in the past year and I located a mom's running group in my new town and they have become my friends, so I would say find an activity that he likes and try to connect with folks with a common interest. I think I found my first roommate by an ad in the Village Voice. I moved in with a friend after a year and we paid a broker to find us a place. It was on the 6th floor of a walk up, so the rent actually wasn't that bad ($1350 back then, split by two people). I think that cost us each about $1000 for the broker fee. I'm betting there are online (maybe Craigslist?) roommate listings, I would just start doing some web searches. Good luck to your son! I love NYC and just took my family back there for their first visit in October. My daughter is already planning for her post college move (in 7+ years!).
  11. I’m not sure if you were asking me, but the democracy jeans cover the belly button, have a good amount of give and a really comfortable waist band.
  12. I second the Democracy Ab Solution jeans. I recently got a pair at TJ Maxx, though you can get them at Nordstrom. They are high waisted, very comfortable and flattering.
  13. If I were the one with the points, I would definitely split the cost of the second night. If I were the one someone split the points with, I would probably try to buy lunch or something as a thank you.
  14. I do not own one, but this one looks interesting to me because of the features and the size: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/run-angel-personal-safety-wearable-alarm/5973202.p?skuId=5973202
  15. I just graduated from readers to progressives, too. For me, it was a very easy transition and I’ve loved having them. I was shocked at how much I was missing with readers, apparently I needed readers of about double the strength I was using.
  16. I would make them something else when they were younger. Now that they are older, they’re on their own if they don’t like what I’ve fixed. I was forced to eat something I didn’t like When I was young and I will never do that to my kids. Mine will now try almost any food, but are not required to eat it or go hungry. Catering to their desires when they were little did not turn them into picky eaters.
  17. I would think $100 would be fair and anything over, the student can cover from savings or get a job. When I was in school, there were plenty of on campus jobs that didn’t require a lot of hours, so that might be worth researching.
  18. We use Tidy Cat and have seven cats, so go through s lot of litter. We had issues with other brands being very dusty.
  19. You could send another short email apologizing for the tone of the original email, if that makes you feel better. I've done something similar and definitely regretted it later!
  20. I recently had a doctor's appointment and the doctor told me that two of the three meds prescribed would not be available at most pharmacies and he called them into a mail order pharmacy for me. There was no copay for one product due to a manufacturer coupon and there was a copay on the other. The third item was called into my local pharmacy. Nothing about what you wrote sounds odd, except the fact that your husband didn't know, unless there was just a miscommunication.
  21. Mine looked an awful lot liked that and they suspected tat I turned my initial rash into a contact dermatitis by using aloe with lidocaine to stop the itching (lidocaine can cause contact dermatitis). I kept itching more and putting on more aloe to stop the itching and suddenly my whole body was covered. It was definitely worse at night. ETA: the steroid shots offered the best and quickest relief. It's definitely worth asking about.
  22. I had crazy skin rash just like hers. I got a steroid injection plus ten days of prednisone. That did the trick until about a week after the last dose of prednisone when it came back. Now I have a spray steroid (desoximetasone), a cream (triamcinolone) and Hylatopic plus lotion. The dermatologist I saw seems to think mine was caused by exercising in the warm weather with dry skin. So far (it's been almost a month since I got the second set of prescriptions) this concoction of meds is working.
  23. Yes, it is false. http://www.11alive.com/mobile/article/news/local/verify/verify-are-nfl-football-players-required-to-stand-for-the-national-anthem/478347794?scroll=246
  24. We have a Brother HL2240. It's compact and reliable. We paid $50 for it several years ago. It does require a cable, you can't print via wifi, but I think the next model up (selling for $100 at the time) was a wifi printer. I would definitely buy it again for s basic printer. We have used both generic and Brother toner cartridges and both were fine and we have not had to replace the drum yet.
  25. My kids' school has an optional one. It's $1100 for sleeping 2 nights on a bus and 3 nights 4 to a room in a hotel out in the Virginia suburbs. To me, that is nothing more than an exercise in sleep deprivation.
