  1. I'm in the minority here. We moved last year and sold our house with a vaulted ceiling and large window. We loved that room! I never had issues cleaning it and my husband painted it and it wasn't too terrible to do.
  2. I just read Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton and loved it! We all have Hamilton-mania in our house. I just received Chernow's George Washington, along with biographies of Adams and Jefferson and I can't wait to dig in!
  3. I would go with luxury vinyl planks. The Traffic Master Allure mentioned above is a high quality, thicker plank so the wood underneath will not have to be as perfect as if you were using a cheaper vinyl where any imperfections would telescope through the vinyl.
  4. You should be able to get a pass to walk your son to the gate and your ex should be able to do the same thing on his end, so it should be no problem as long as he doesn't have a connecting flight.
  5. We didn't have a slider with them, but we had patio doors. They worked great in our house and we never had any issues with them. We got ours at Lowes and they came with a lifetime warranty, so there was no concern about them breaking. If I were to redo the doors in my current house, I would get them again.
  6. The Washington Monument is closed for repairs. :( We paid the $3/ticket for Ford's Theatre because we didn't want to be stuck waiting in a line, it's a self-guided tour so it just lets you enter so you can look around. I looked into the Treasury and it looks like those tickets are only distributed first thing in the morning starting at 8am and the tickets for the day are gone by 9am, no advance reservations available. I doubt we are going to manage that. Also, I don't think the National Archives is a tour, it's just a timed entry to get in so you don't have to wait in line. We are not going to the Holocaust museum because my 10 year old would be very upset by it and he's not ready yet. I have a tour (this one is an actual tour) of the Capitol set up and have a request for a tour of the White House. We also scheduled a 4:30pm tour of the Kennedy Center so that we could do the tour and then see the free performance after.
  7. Life insurance agents/brokers take home a significant portion of first year premiums as their sales commission so I would be very cautious about taking their recommendation. (Premiums on whole life are much higher than term, so they make more money selling a whole life policy.) I have never come across any information that would make me conclude that whole life is a better strategy than term life + investing the difference.
  8. #1 sounds like the best option because of the full kitchen and the fact that you could continue to rent it out if your son chooses to not live there at some point.
  9. And I'm considering tickets to the Spy Museum. I think my kids would enjoy it, but it's about $80 for my family and I can't decide if they will love it that much!
  10. I got tickets to the Natiinal Archives ($1.5/ticket) and the Capitol (free). I requested tickets to the White House, but doubt I will get them. They also already had a lot of sold out times for my days (but not to the extent of Ford's theatre).
  11. Airbnb is renting a house rather than using a hotel. Many people are using them as investments, others are someone's personal house that they rent out occasionally. I would not want to stay in someone's house, so any of those I see, I rule out. A lot are converted English basements (that are nice done), the one I got is a townhouse. Check out airbnb.com Type in your criteria and start hunting. (Also homeaway.com and flipkey.com have rentals.)
  12. I just reserved tickets to Ford's theatre for our trip in March and there are already dates/times that are sold out, so if that is something that interests you, you might want to look at it sooner, rather than later. We are renting an airbnb for our trip. I've never done it before, but there are a lot available (many with a significant number of reviews) and it is less expensive and more room than a hotel, even a suite (ours is 2bd/2ba).
  13. I don't think I saw this asked -- does your park have electricity for the bounce house?
  14. Hot Topic has a huge selection of graphic tees (not sure on sleeve length though). My dd has Vigoss and American Eagle jeans that are nice. We got the Vigoss jeans from Marshalls so I don't know where they were from originally. Waists seem to be coming back up, so you should have an easier time finding something cute and comfortable.
  15. Please be careful with trying too many products. I had a heat rash that turned into contact dermatitis because of an urgent care doctor that suggested I use aloe with lidocaine. I used so many products I never could tell what was helping or hurting and a trip to a dermatologist, a steroid shot and prescription steroid cream later, it finally cleared. She said that lidocaine and diphenhydramine creams both can cause contact irritations, but that oral diphenhydramine and hydrocortisone creams were good to use for OTC produts.
  16. If I thought I might get pregnant sometime soon, there is no way I would risk it.
  17. No, mine happened much more gradually and even now I wouldn't need to enlarge to 175% to read a full size monitor. I did not go to a doctor, I just tried on a few different pairs and got the +1.5 ones. Given your symptoms, I might see a doc.
  18. I think I started wearing them at 43. I rarely take them off now (at 45). I don't know how long I needed them before I started wearing them.
  19. I prefer a mattress topper with a comforter on top. I find that very comfortable, and I find anything inflatable impossible to use.
  20. My story is similar to those posted--Lego obsessed 4-9 and hasn't played with them in close to a year. We bought a set a month ago to try to reinvigorate his interest. He enjoyed putting the set together, but hasn't touched them since. We have a huge collection that is collecting dust now.
  21. I would not tell my child who wanted to be around the family that she coud not be. However, I would not keep the environment intentionally quiet for her, either.
  22. We did and they looked great. You will have to prime them and to multiple coats if you don't want the grain to show through. Also, depending on the style of doors you have, keeping the paint from clumping in the doors is challenging. We took all doors and hinges off, but we wanted them to look professionally done. My husband also put trim on the tops and bottoms of the upper cabinets, which made them look even nicer.
  23. Do you think they found this rule in response to your daughter's food allergies or is it just a coincidence? If it's the former, I would be cautious about sending my child to spend the weekend with someone who didn't want her there. Otherwise, I would look into the official rules of the organization. What about trying to find a compromise and have your husband go for just one night of the camp out? Try borrowing a tent and sleeping bag from a friend so you don't have to purchase everything for one night.
  24. It probably had more to do with the fact that my kids were never into the "magic of Disney," however, they absolutely adored all things Harry Potter. I wouldn't say the rides were all that different - rollers coasters, 3D movies, etc, it was more the themes of the rides. I preferred Universal and would love to go back, but I have no interest in going to Disney again (except maybe to the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot)..
