  1. Breathing peppermint and ginger essential oils has helped me with mild nausea. I haven't had the opportunity to test it out while pregnant, though.
  2. When I took the PSAT and SAT, the verbal portions were almost if not completely made up of vocabulary: sentence completion, analogies, and something else I can't recall. Apparently it has all changed and is now mostly reading comprehension. Is there any vocabulary at all?
  3. I'm completely willing to own my paranoia about the efficacy of eclipse glasses and not judge any parent who decides to trust the glasses. We're watching the NASA live feed, then going outside at the moment of greatest coverage to see how dark everything is. No looking directly at the sun even with glasses.
  4. You'll have to get tickets for both Universal and Islands of Adventure if you want to ride the Hogwarts Express and see both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. be prepared for that.
  5. If you asked for recommendations on FB for a service, and one business had a 4.9 star rating and the other had a perfect 5, would it affect how you decided between the two?
  6. If she misses the ps cut-off and wouldn't be allowed to start K yet, then it's not really red-shirting to wait a year for homeschooling. You're just following the ps cut-off dates.
  7. Most of the posts I see are moaning about how it's too soon to be thinking about school and summer isn't long enough. I think generally people just like to complain.
  8. If the tutor has children enrolled, they get paid in the form of tuition for their kids. If they let retired homeschoolers be tutors, they would have to be paid actual money. CC is pulling off a large scale barter system and somehow getting away with it. I'm actually impressed.
  9. Would you let your 12yo walk from the hotel lobby back to the room by themselves?
  10. It doesn't help. My town has specific days/hours when fireworks are permissible, but people still set them off for the whole week. Then the local FB groups have big long discussions about it, and people defend their right to set them off when it's convenient for them rather than follow the rules. It's insane.
  11. It is possible to have highly technical, well-choreographed, non-provocative dance routines, even in teen jazz and hip-hop. The problem is when the people running the show just don't even think in those terms. My kids go to a studio that has an optional comp team, and is not ballet-centered. I am modest and conservative, and there was not a single dance in the entire recital weekend that I would have not been okay with my kids performing. The costumes and music were all appropriate. And the dances were amazing. It can be done. Are most directors and teachers willing to make the effort? From the discussions that pop up here frequently, it appears not.
  12. She's not on a team. She didn't want black lining because it makes it too hard to find black shoes and leos inside.
