  1. My husband rarely watches tv but actually sat down and really enjoyed both "Rome" and "The Tudors." Recently I've been watching "Fringe" and "Dexter."
  2. I just have a cheapie "Mr. Coffee" espresso maker. For the forty dollars I paid for it I have to say it does a pretty darn good job and I use it at least twice a day.
  3. I've used Zenni several times with no problems at all. I'm getting ready to order another pair with the transition lenses as my husband can't seem to keep up with the clip on shades. I love Zenni!
  4. We start at 10 a.m. every day but we do school until 5 p.m. It works for us. We are not morning people and usually stay up really late. If starting at 10 a.m. works for you I wouldn't worry about it.
  5. I have three boys - 14, 11 and 7. They all get on really well. They share a room, which was their choice. They all have their own space within the room (600 sq ft finished basement). They play together really nice most of the time. My oldest babysits if my husband and I need to go out. My oldest plays games with the 7 year old even if he really isn't interested in the game. He just makes it clear and says, "Hey Sam, I'll play whatever you want for the next 30 minutes but then I'd like to go and do my own thing." If they do have their occasional disagreement I will intervene and talk to them about the proper, expected behavior. I also try and talk to them really nicely, setting a good example on how we talk to each other even if we have a problem.
  6. The only problem I would have is the way he said it. There was a better way he could have said he didn't want it. Does your DH know how to make his own smoothies? I know that may sound like a silly question but I had to show mine how to make them. Now he just makes his own the way he likes them. Perhaps you just need to tell you DH that you are just going to let him make his own. That way he can make it the way he wants.
  7. We take a multivitamin (gummi vitamins), a calcium (tums), and a chewable vitamin C. We've also started taking Flax seed oil for those important omega 3, 6 and 9s.
  8. Of the 4 Disney parks our favorite is Epcot. They have some very cool rides there and we like the fireworks in the evening. My kids also liked the Disney water parks that we added on to our park ticket for just a few extra dollars. We spent 12 days at a Disney hotel last May and didn't have time to do anything other than the Disney parks and water parks. It was awesome. :D
  9. Same here. We are rarely sick. DS#3 was first to get a fever, cough, cold and fever. He was kind enough to pass it along to DS#1 and myself. We've both been suffering. DS#2 only and had the sniffles. So far DH didn't catch it. I can't wait for us all to feel better. I haven't been out the house in 10 days. I'm going to have to brave the store today because the fridge and pantry are looking pretty empty.
  10. No. We don't usually give them anything for Valentines. Our homeschool group is having a small party. So the kids will get to see their friends and probably make cards or do some kind of craft.
  11. Mine are organized by topic. All the science books together (then split by topic - biology, physics, chemistry, general science, human body, etc.), all the history books together, all the Spanish books together. Fictional books, the classics, are organized by author. Easy readers are just lumped together. I've also started to give these away once they are read unless they are an absolute favorite. I have way too many books. :001_smile:
  12. Yep, I'd eat them. I'd slice them into rounds and fry them in a little oil until they got crispy on the outside. Yum!
  13. Do the the PASS test by Hewitt, it is not timed. http://www.hewitthomeschooling.com/test/testfaq.asp
  14. The last few days I've been have quinoa (already cooked) with milk, sugar and cinnamon. The kids have been eating homemade cinnamon rolls the last couple of days. Toast is a popular breakfast here. Sometimes the kids just eat leftovers.
  15. I like the book shelves they carry at Sams Club. They are real wood, the shelves don't bend under the weight of the books, they have feet so they don't block air vents and they are sturdy and will last for years. I want to say they run around $150 but I haven't bought any in a while.
  16. It all depends on how much time you plan on spending at the hotel. I loved the "Pop Century" resort. It had lots of swimming pools and since we really didn't spend that much time at the hotel suited us really well. I've also stayed at "Port Orleans, Riverside" and that was very nice too. The kids especially loved the water slide at the French Quarter pool. The "Wilderness Lodge" was also very nice and just a boat ride to Magic Kingdom. I wish we had spent more time just hanging out at the resort and enjoying the pool.
  17. Yes. Someone made fraudulent charges on my credit card. I have no idea how they got the card number. The credit card company removed the charges, canceled my card and issued a new one.
  18. No. For one thing the kids wouldn't want to go to a religious co-op. For another all of the religious co-ops that I know of here in NC require you to sign a statement of faith. For another many religious people, adults and children, seem threaten by us being atheists and I really don't want any more of "those" discussions.
  19. Depending on what the meds are I would seriously look into ordering them from a Canadian pharmacy. At least price them and see if that would be a savings to you. One of my husband's meds in the USA is $500 for a 90 supply or $40 for a 90 day from Canada.
  20. Shred up some carrot and sautee the cabbage and carrot in a little oil and add some fresh ginger. It is really good.
  21. I would use the commercial as a learning experience. Talk about how different people live. There is nothing wrong with being different. In reality a lot of people that have big fancy houses and vehicles can't afford them and are living beyond their means. Our house is a lot smaller than just about everyone elses that we know. However, our house is paid for. Kids need to learn to be happy with what they have and not living in the unhappy state because of the things they don't have.
  22. When my middle son was 8 he declared he wanted to be a vegetarian. He has stuck with it for 3 years now. My oldest son and I also joined him after watching the movie "Earthlings" on youtube. :001_smile: My youngest and my husband still eat meat but rarely.
  23. I've vaccinated my own dogs for years. I also ran a rescue for many years and vaccinated the foster dogs. It costs me approx. $7 for the 7-way vaccine and $2 for the kennel cough. It is very easy to do. The schedule seems to have changed since I first started doing vaccinations. Now they recommend a 3 year schedule for the 7-way and the kennel cough changed to every 6 months. Ironically after the 100's of dogs that I have vaccinated one of my personal dogs is allergic to one of the shots - we don't know which one. So from now on he has to have a titer done and we will only vaccinate if he no longer has immunity and will only do one particular kind of vaccine at a time, one year distemper, the next parvo and so on under the guidance of my vet. After speaking to my vet earlier this month they also changed the dosage of ivermectin needed as a heartworm preventative.
  24. I'm so sorry that happened. I have had similar experiences. My advice is to start charging. People don't seem to value things that are free. I would charge a fee and make it non-refundable to no-shows.
