  1. I'm partial to Rose and Grace - those are my dd's middle names. :001_smile: Since those are out, I like Jane.
  2. My dh and I have struggled with this for a couple of years now. Is she missing out on other things she could be doing if she wasn't in the gym all the time?? What if we stop here and she really could have gone that far?? We finally decided that as long as she loves it, wants to go every day, and still has some time that she gets to just hang out with friends, we would stick it out with her. She gets up early to get her schoolwork done in time for gym. If she doesn't finish, she gets a shower and something to eat, and sits down to finish without me nagging at all. She has an incredible work ethic (I wish it would rub off on her brother!). She is Level 10, training for Elite and is a Hopes gymnast. Her goal will be to make the US Junior National Team in the next year or two. As far as cost, a lot. We have made many sacrifices to keep her in gym. Her siblings have their own interests, which we also support, but nothing comes close to the cost of gym. It cost around $10,000 last year, not including travel.
  3. Absolutely! She was also interviewed by the local news last week as a "2016 hopeful." She is actually very shy, and it made her a little uncomfortable.
  4. Praying for your entire family. :grouphug::grouphug:
  5. Gabby actually favors my dd a little. I'm definitely a fan. :001_smile: My 12yo gymnast trains around 25 hours a week, and we have at least an hour travel time 6 days a week. She couldn't do it if she wasn't homeschooled. Pretty much all of the Levels 7 and up at our gym are homeschooled.
  6. It's so good to hear things are going well, Christine! Good luck deciding about next year with your kiddos. :001_smile:
  7. I always have extras, too. Right now it's 3 extra 13yo girls. :001_smile: During the summer I never know how many boys are going to emerge from my basement wanting breakfast. :001_smile:
  8. They get a healthy snack before we leave the house at 2:00, and then eat dinner when they come in at 8. Their activities are not seasonal - it will be like this our entire school year.
  9. She trains here in our hometown, but also has to go to Texas (to the ranch) some, too. She is part of the Hopes program, with the goal of making the USA Junior National Team in the next year or two.
  10. I have a bedroom that we converted to a library with built-ins floor to ceiling all the way around. We have a couple in our school area, and a custom one in our basement family room that is 8' hide and 12' wide. I still don't have room for them all! I have stacks of books on the floor of my library that need a home.
  11. I would definitely skip the class and do it at home. A teacher/mom who is that disorganized would drive me bonkers. My three sons who have graduated did all of their high school labs at home, and they did just fine. My 9th grade dd had an outside Biology class last year. I wasn't happy with it at all, and she will be doing Chemistry, with labs, at home this year.
  12. We will do something. I may steal the idea of the cake with Olympic ring M&Ms! My dd and I were interviewed by our local station yesterday, and they called her a "2016 hopeful." It was very surreal. I can't imagine how much more so for the athletes and families in London.
  13. Aw, I'm glad she enjoyed her girlie stuff! My youngest will be 13 next week. I will then have four teens. Fun, fun.
  14. My 15yo wants to major in marketing. She has lots of other interests, too, but is pretty sure of her major.
  15. It sounds great to me! I could go for that, especially the kilt parades!
  16. I get up about 5:30. I absolutely have to have 30 minutes to wake up before I can be a nice person. I get the kids up around 6:45 so they can eat breakfast and do their chores. They have an hour before school starts.
