  1. I recently had the chance to look through this curriculum and I really like it! I would love to hear about your experiences with it. I will have a first grader next year so I guess I would start with the blue book. =)
  2. Thanks so much everyone!! You all are so helpful! You gave me some good ideas!! I guess it wouldn't hurt to get all of us eating a little low carb too. ;)
  3. What are your staple foods? My daughter is trying this diet and I have no idea what to get her without doing a totally separate grocery shopping for her. I would like to get some ideas of snacks as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas. Just FYI, she is 15.
  4. Check out Khan Academy!!!! It is free and I can't say enough about it! My dd went to public high school for the first half of the year and then decided to come back home. We are using Khan for the rest of her Algebra 1 year. http://www.khanacademy.org/about
  5. My son (18) is definitely an introvert! He went to public school his entire life. School WILL NOT help him become more social! If he is happy where he is, I would not force hiim to go to ps. My son has had maybe 3 good friends since elementary school and those are still his friends. He does not go out. He is a runner and he will go play basketball with those friends, but that is about it. I think that you are born with your personality and simply being around others will not change it.
  6. First I want to say that I did not intend to offend anyone. I just wanted to voice my opinion. I also wanted to clarify that I do not regret my 15 yr old watching the movie. She is in high school and the story line does resemble much of the reading required in high school. However, I remember reading stories such as, The lottery and The Most Dangerous Game in high school/college and still to this day, those stories creep me out!!! So, for me the movie was disturbing. I cannot agree with others that the movie does "not" glorify murder and power because children are killing children and laughing about it (in the movie). As far as my friends response, I just wanted to share the perspective from a mom of a 10 yr old that has read the books. I personally think that if you have children under the age of 14, you may want to go see the movie yourself first.
  7. Well, I went to see the Hungar Games with some friends last night and I just wanted to post the thoughts from a friend (who was with me) concerning young kids watching this movie, her response is very heartfelt and true. My 15 yr old daughter saw this with us and she did not read the book, but her response to the movie was; I was totally not mentally prepared for this movie. Although the movie was made well, I was pretty disturbed myself the whole time. I will not be reading the rest of the books. Here is my friends reponse: Okay; I've had a few hours to sleep on my 'Hunger Games' experience and feel I need to share. This movie is NOT for children under 18! My children will NEVER watch it. I regret that I let my 10 year old read the series, as it glorifies murder and power. I feel extremely strong about the images that were labeled PG-13. This is an R rated film. VERY upset that my child has been exposed to the story in written form, as well! I have had to apologize to my daughter this morning (for allowing her to read the books) and she responded my weeping and saying she knew they weren't appropriate but felt peer pressure. BIG (not so proud) moment for me as a mother.
  8. My son (now 18) has had one in the same spot on and off since he was 5. It flares when he gets a cold or an infection. I agree, as long as you do not notice it getting significantly larger, I think it's fine. My sons would be visible sometimes for a few months after he was sick. HTH!
  9. Oliver William is an awesome name!! I do like Cory alot, but Oliver is just as great!!
  10. My dd's first acoustic guitar just bit the dust. I have no idea what to get her. She is still in the beginning stages of learning. Can you recommend a nice not real expensive guitar that you have had experience with. Thanks!!
  11. I would have pulled out too! Sorry she is upset. I would probably give her some time to cool off and then send her a message to let her know how much you appreciated what she has done, butthat you can't risk the head lice again. That's a huge deal. I guess maybe to some, it isn't.
  12. This is exactly the way I felt when I was having these issues. I did learn how to control the breathing on my own. I do agree that when it would happen, I would almost start to make myself hyperventilate. Once I learned to control it, I haven't had any more episodes.
  13. I had the same thing happen twice a few years ago and the doctors did finally diagnose anxiety. I was really shocked because I was under very little stress. I do also have thyroid issues, so they could run hand in hand.
  14. This is where I got mine: Corefoundations.wordpress.com/scheds-math-science/ HTH
  15. We love it here!! Loved what they did last night!! Totally threw me off. =)
  16. I think it is a very cool story to tell!!!! Thanks for sharing!!
  17. I am an attached parent and I didn't know it until I started coming to this forum. :D My oldest is 18 and I never heard that term until coming here.
