Mom can we do Latin again, that was fun.....
KrissiK replied to Soror's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That's great. We're doing Memoria Press Latin and it's not easy, but my boys absolutely do not complain about doing Latin. I actually think they kind of like it, though they would never admit it. -
Who's going to tackle Thursday with me?
KrissiK replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Ok, I just have to share this.... because it has just "made" my day! Ok, today is Halloween...the one day of the year a kid gets an absolute haul of candy, he just has to wait till it gets dark... And this morning my oldest son sneaks into my room with the step-ladder and once again steals candy (hidden high up in the closet) from our soccer candy sales. He leaves the step-ladder in there and then eats the candy and I catch him from the scent on his breath. And the step-ladder he left, that I know I didn't. And the wrapper, that he insists he got from Awana. I told him if he didn't 'fess up quick and tell the truth (he lies and lies and lies, even when confronted with all the evidence in the world) he wasn't going with us tonight to the Fall Festival. He did tell the truth, and has been suffering the consequences for stealing and the other lies the rest of the afternoon. He'll go with us tonight, but will have to shadow us, and not run off with his friends. It's just unbelievable to me that today, of all days.... when he knew what he had to look forward to tonight.... -
It just sounds better, and Mississippi is much more fun to say, and spell. "One-Indiana ...." Just doesn't do it. No offense to anyone who lives in Indiana.

Oh yeah! I completely agree. Regarding ages, my conservative parents took me to Star Wars, in the theater, when it came out in 1977 and I was 9 years old. I loved it. That was the beginning of my lifelong "affair" with Harrison Ford. ;)

I am not terribly familiar with VF and all their teachings. I've seen and admired the catalog, I have a feel for what they represent.... But I guess my question is, (in response to a previous post) does Wilson say that following his teachings will guard you against moral downfall? Did he specifically say that? I guess , I'm wondering because if he did specifically say that if a person lives that way, they are immune from moral downfall then you can say that his teachings don't hold water. But my impression is that he is just espousing a certain philosophy, results not guaranteed, then.... That's just what it is. A different way (they think better way) to live, but we're still all sinners, susceptible to the same sins. Does that make sense?

Who's going to tackle Thursday with me?

Jean, I'm glad your washing machine is repaired. No more beating the clothes on rocks, down by the river, huh? Lol! Today... School! Tonight, Harvest Festival! That's all. Easy day! -
If the kids didn't see it-- it didn't happen
KrissiK replied to Lara in Colo's topic in The Chat Board
Dd had this awful Justin Bieber t-shirt that I gave to Goodwill. She asked me what happened and I said I didn't know where it was, because, honestly... I didn't know where it was. At that point in time. I did eventually come clean, though. We teach our kids that if your intent is to deceive, it's a lie, and I want to set a good example, so I told her I gave it away. She was mad for a while. -
I buy my kids sugar cereal. We don't have it every day. Some days we have scrambled eggs, today we're having toast, but some days.... I just can't do breakfast and the kids have cereal. If you're a "bad mom" then so am I and I don't care. I can't do everything!

Best: butterfingers, peanut butter cups Worst: those taffy things wrapped in orange and black wax paper. Incidentally, those are the ones I buy (when I buy Halloween candy) so I'm not tempted to eat them. The whole town descends on our neighborhood on Halloween and it is an absolute madhouse, so we beat it on out of here as soon as DH gets home from work and go to my parents' church. They have this big harvest festival with bounce houses and food and the kids get a haul of candy. So, I don't buy candy to give out.

I used to like her, too, before she got famous. Her blog kind of reminded me of a Seinfeld episode.... Taking the mundane and making it hilarious. She really has a way with telling stories. But, I ended up getting tired of it after she diversified her blog so much. It seemed too commercial. Not so personable. I tried a few of her recipes from the blog and none lit my fire, so I haven't been terribly interested in the cookbook.

Who's going to tackle Wednesday with me?
KrissiK replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Good Wednesday Afternoon, All! School is done. Woohoo! I dusted the ceiling fans and changed their direction. Got the thank-you note printed up for 3 year old dd. Dh's maiden aunt is a dear and sends $10 to all her grand-nieces and nephews for their birthdays. This time I actually got the note done (older kids write their own, but I still have to remind them) during the birthday month. Am going to start a batch of zwiebach to freeze for Thanksgiving. I always host DH's family and there will be 30 of us, so I start prepping early. I also have yet to do end of the month budget accountability. -
I carry a bottle in my purse, too. For me. And I chug, too. Allergies can sneak up on me for no good reason, even though I take a Zyrtec every day, and sometimes other stuff, too. I'll just be sitting there, minding my own business and I'll sneeze and sneeze and sneeze and my throat will get swollen. I do have an epi-pen, but a swig of Benadryl works well most of the time. I have no idea what I'm allergic to in these instances.

Hana Williams case: long sentences handed down today.
KrissiK replied to LucyStoner's topic in The Chat Board
What a horrible case. I'm glad they got the maximum. -
I crock pot those, with two envelopes of dry onion soup mix and a little water. Cook on high 1 hour, low for the rest of the day, shred, serve on buns with BBQ sauce.

If the favorite sweatshirt is washed and dried before the owner wakes up, then the cat didn't really throw up on it. -
You're not a meanie! My kitchen has certain hours. You snooze, you lose!

That was bizarre.

Who's going to tackle Saturday with me?
KrissiK replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Three soccer games done! Two pairs of shoes bought (dd needed a new pair, too) Bread is rising, cookies are baking Need to do some housework. It's such a beautiful day outside, I should go out. But there's so much to do indoors. -
I am the only Classical homeschooler in my group. I don't feel like an outsider at all. We are all so different. We don't discuss curriculum, either. I'm glad. I don't want to. I just want friends that I can shoot the breeze with and not think about school for a while. But, I do think it's like as was mentioned before, homeschooling decisions ( the choice to do it, and the choices of methodology and curriculum) are very personal. As a homeschooling mom, I have chosen what I believe to be the best for my children. However, if I meet you and you have different curriculum choices, etc. and you've chosen it because you believe it is the best and tell me all about it, then I will somehow feel inferior. Same with other parenting choices. It's sad, really, that parenting and all that goes with it has to have such high standards.

Who's going to tackle Saturday with me?
KrissiK replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Must never forget about tackling Saturday! Well, this is the first Saturday in almost 2 months where we did not have an early soccer game. So, instead of everyone rushing around at 7:15, it's just me with a large cup of coffee and the iPad and my 3 year old who woke herself up coughing and is now eating a few Fruit Loops while I work on waking up. This is nice. Except that she just spilled her water. "That's ok, mommy, it'll dry!" And I'm admiring my new curtains. I have hated my curtains for years, but was just unable to do anything about it. You know how when you are just so busy and overwhelmed....? Anyhow, so last week I had had it. We always have DH's huge family here for Thanksgiving and I was just so tired of being ashamed of my cr@ppy looking curtains, I just sat down at JC Penny's on-line and daringly ordered some. Just like that. And I scored. They match the walls and carpets perfectly and I got them on clearance -75% off. They aren't fancy, just grommet top panels, but it really makes a difference. I like them. So, as for tackling Saturday..... 3 mid-day soccer games Gotta get new shoes for DS2, who has been uncomplainingly wearing his old ones, until I realized they were really thrashed. Do some housework Bake some bread. Maybe get out and do a little yardwork. The weather is fantastic, though we really need the rain. -
We've been working on the Declaration of Independence . We'll also do the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We've done some songs, too. Also Presidents, states and capitols, even though those aren't documents. Our memorization is low-key. We just recite them together during memory time. My kids don't like to be put on the spot and clam up when they are, so I don't "hold them accountable" for the things they memorize. We do memorize a ton of things, though. We have daily recitations in the morning, as well as memory time before lunch. It's amazing what they can store away by doing things only a few minutes a day, but doing it every day. Some had mentioned conceptual understanding, but for things like Latin grammar, English helping verbs, etc., my kids memorized those before they even knew what they were, but now, as they are coming to them in their studies, it has become infinitely helpful to just be able to rattle them off.
