  1. I recently got a night guard and this is the same cleaning advice the hygienist gave me. At first I too thought antibacterial soap would be gross. But I was thinking only of hand soap. Palmolive makes antibacterial soap for dishes--this is what I use. Works great and by just brushing, not soaking, I don't get residual soap flavor at all.
  2. That's kinda funny. Reminds me of the time mil sent us a package. It was an unexpected surprise. The next day we got a letter from her telling us she had sent a package.
  3. If the strep test comes back negative ask for a mono test. My ds saw the doc for what he thought was strep--he'd had strep before so knew the symptoms--but it turned out he had mono.
  4. This year 13yo dd (youngest and most Christmas focused of the dc) suggested we do our gift opening later. Like in the afternoon. Crazy, huh? So dh and sons went to the state park for a morning run. I slept in so our cinnamon buns are late too. I like this more relaxed approach to the day's events. Later we'll probably go out for Chinese and a movie. And I'll make salad for dh's lunch tomorrow. That's it! Happy Christmas to all!
  5. Agreeing with Day. We love the Marie Callendar pies. With a bit of ice cream or fresh whipped cream ... Nom!
  6. Rubik's Cube Hanayama Puzzle (we bought ours online but I've seen them at Books-a-Million) Slime
  7. You reminded me: back in college I met a gal whose family was Catholic and she and her five (yes!) sisters were all named Mary. They went by their middle names which were all different, at least.
  8. As to the poll, we rarely use bows--almost never. One year my dd begged for bows, so we bought a bag. The bag of bows lasted several years because we mostly use (and reuse) gift bags. I don't really care for bows because, like a PP stated, the glue isn't very sticky and the bows fall off the packages. They're kind of a pain.
  9. I still have curling ribbon too! Those giant spools last forever. I know I bought mine over 20 years ago.
  10. The Kathryn/Katherine/Catherines are all Katie or Kat now--our dc have known several. My boys went to school with several girls with similar names. And all went by both names, not just the first name or a nickname. But my dd--who is 7 years younger--doesn't have any classmates who are similarly named. Maybe it was a weird hiccup in this area for baby naming in the mid-late 90s.
  11. My experience with Michaels is similar to what others here have said. The store I go to most will allow 2 coupons to be used at once *if* one is a discount for a single item and the other is a discount for your entire purchase, with this second discount applying only to the remaining items after the single-item discount is taken. They will not take two different single-item discount coupons (e.g. one 50% off and another 40%) within one purchase. I don't mean trying to use 2 coupons on one item; just one coupon per item but trying to purchase two items with two coupons. If you have a JoAnn local to you, they are usually much more generous with accepting multiple coupons (for multiple items, of course)--even taking printed and e-coupons in one purchase. But I do understand that stock differs between stores and sometimes you have to go to a particular store to get what you want. Have fun shopping!
  12. Seconding A Man Called Ove and As You Wish.
  13. I haven't heard of these but we did have a somewhat similar tradition. As kids we'd give each other b-day punches on the arm--one for each year and an extra for good luck. The "tradition" was only observed during our elementary school years. By middle school it was a "little kid" thing.
  14. No, but they'd go great with the whoopie cushions OP is contemplating.
  15. Our thanksgiving menu was ham, homemade mac&cheese, sauteed zucchini. That's it. Oh, and pie. Go simple.
  16. Harry Potter--do you already have the illustrated editions? Getting all three would be a big and fun gift.
  17. a case of Windex a case of Wisk Wits and Wagers (board game)
  18. My family uses Hydroflask because everyone in Hawaii uses them so my mom sent one for each of us for Christmas one year. They really do keep things cold, so much so that ds1 says he had to cut back on the number of ice cubes in his because they don't melt and then he doesn't get quite as much water.
  19. Never heard of them and this sounds very odd so I want to give you a bump in hopes someone else who knows might see this.
  20. Ooh, good thing I didn't get around to ordering last night. Thanks! :)
  21. We're getting my older son a particular table from IKEA. He asked if delivering it to his house could be part of the gift. For some reason it makes me very happy to be able to do so.
