  1. I'm the finder in our family. Places to look: budget binder, top dresser drawer, top of dresser, envelope stuck between two books, bottom bottom of purse/backpack, glove compartment, desk drawer, your inbox (dh has one on his desk), in the envelope with the other receipts you're waiting to enter in your budgeting program ... I hope you find it!
  2. Ours went out yesterday around 4pm, came back on for about an hour at 3am and is still out now with an estimated fix time of 2pm. Hmm, we'll see. A hot shower would be really nice!
  3. Just measured this morning--11"!
  4. Death in Paradise is on the lighter side of murder mystery shows.
  5. Samurai Gourmet. There are only 10 or 12 episodes and they're only 20 mins each but so sweet and fun.
  6. We went out and measured a couple hours ago and it's snowed at least 8" here. Wowza!
  7. We're on the northwest side of ATL and have about 3.5" of snow here!
  8. Snowing in my part of GA as well. So far over 3"!
  9. Is it a new pillow? Maybe they're trying to make sure it's theirs? If it's a down pillow then there must be some scent left and they're trying to go in for the kill. lol. One of our cats usually has very little interest in my yarn, but the other day I brought home some that was less processed than most and he loooved it. I figure it must still smell a bit sheepy to him.
  10. No personal experience but I've heard great reviews of Hello Fresh on one of the knitting podcasts I listen to. The podcasters are known for giving honest reviews of other products and only accept sponsors that they can give genuinely great reviews for. They've given HF very solid reviews for quality of ingredients and ease of use as well as for the tastiness of the meals. If even this is too much for her time/energy then maybe gift cards for healthier option places would work better. But I'm imagining she chooses McD because of the ease of driving through--especially if she has the dc with her. A lot of healthier choice places don't have drive-thru. I know you can order ahead but there's often still a bit of waiting to collect your order. Sorry, I'm rambling now because I'm out of ideas. I hope you're able to figure out something that works for them.
  11. I use Flonase and Claritin. The smell of the Flonase doesn't bother me and Claritin is the only antihistamine that doesn't make me sleepy. Both Zyrtec and Allegra knock me out within about 2 hours of taking. And then I feel like I have a bad hangover when I wake up.
  12. I personally wouldn't count a bed as an Xmas present unless the child was an adult who'd moved out and is trying to furnish their new living space. For our family beds are necessary pieces of furniture.
  13. Star Wars original trilogy. We start watching on Christmas Eve when decorating cookies.
  14. FWIW our trees were never actually destroyed but they did fall over. Getting them straightened up again wasn't too bad--only a few ornaments fell off--but cleaning up the water that spilled out of the bottom part *was* a pain. That's why we now anchor our tree to the wall. If you have an artificial tree it probably won't be so terrible getting them upright again.
  15. We've had a couple cats that liked to climb in the Christmas tree. We anchor it to the wall with twine now. These two cats we have now used to climb into the basement ceiling! We have one room without a proper ceiling--dh's workshop. That's also where the litter pan is. Our previous cat was never interested in the ceiling so we never knew we had a problem. We just had insulation and then heavy plastic sheeting stapled up there. Well, the cats figured out how to get into one of the corners where the exposed concrete wall was high enough and the plastic had a small opening. And they'd walk around on the plastic, going from room to room, via the ceiling/floor. When it first happened we could hear weird clunking noises under the dining area--it's right above the workshop--and then we realized that the cats were missing. I think it took 3 or 4 cat-ventures in the ceiling/floor before dh figured out all the points of entry and fixed them up.
  16. I agree that they sound too similar. What about combining your middle name choices--Katherine Claire?
  17. Dd and I have had good experiences so far with the FF update. It does look different, though. The main thing I don't like is the refresh button got moved to the left. While that makes sense--it's where the other navigation buttons are--I'm so used to it being on the right side that at first I thought they'd gotten rid of it.
  18. When my eldest came home from college he was just happy to eat something that wasn't pizza or fast-food Chinese. I was lucky, though. He just lived the next town over. But he came by once a week to do his laundry because the machines in his apartment complex sucked. My younger ds will complain about nothing to eat--but he lives here! I tell him he can just go back to campus and eat at the Commons where they have lots and lots of food. Apparently all we ever have is ingredients.
  19. One year my SIL made cranberry sauce from scratch. So pretty! But it tasted exactly the same as canned. Which I like so no biggie to me. :D We had a few times, when the dc were young, where we'd just moved to a new place and didn't know anyone and dh had to work. My dc hate turkey so we had pizza and they came to think of pizza as a traditional Thanksgiving food. I had no idea green bean casserole was a traditional dish. I didn't grow up with it at all, neither did dh. The first time I'd even seen one was at a church potluck years after we were married. Dh and I like turkey but the dc hate it so we just do ham every year. Or at least every year that we haven't just had pizza.
  20. Podcast addict here, too. I haven't tried other apps so it did take a little bit of learning to figure out the settings.
  21. The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs by Alexander McCall Smith. Short novel in his Professor Dr. von Igelfeld series. Not the first in the series but the funniest of them.
  22. Agreeing. My MIL likes to get the books of the NYTimes crossword puzzles.
  23. When I first met BIL he had a car he'd named Hortence. I can't remember what kind it was, though.
