  1. We have this one, which we use with charcoal filters in the lid and compostable bags. The compostable bags start to break down after a couple of days, so I sometimes have to double bag on the way out to the pile, and run the thing through the dishwasher. It doesn't stink, but sometimes hatches fruit flies in summer. We don't use the metal handle thingie. I wish it were a little bigger...
  2. Is a wallet and will hold all of the items you mentioned: https://www.osgoodemarley.com/products/multi-pocket-urbanizer Lasts years.
  3. Your subfloor does NOT need to be leveled to put down a finished floor, but it would need to be flattened which is much easier. Just shim up the low spots and put a new layer of subfloor in between existing and finish. Maybe get a second opinion?
  4. It's hard for me to summon wrapping motivation too, so I created a tradition for myself of staying up very, very late on Christmas Eve and wrapping them with Its A Wonderful Life running in the background. I've done this for many years, and now I usually look forward to it. One particularly bad year that my kids were gone with my ex for Christmas, I didn't do any decorating at all and my kids opened their gifts out of shopping bags and Amazon boxes a couple of weeks after Christmas. I felt bad, but I also felt bad, and the world didn't end. That was my worst year, and the kids are all happy young adults now who are here together for the holiday - that's the most important part really. Hang in there! It's almost over...
  5. My kids went through a phase when they were little where they loved giving each other gifts, so they would take each other's favorite toys, stuffed animals, or even a quickly built lego creation, and wrap it up with lots of paper and tape. They were always SO happy to unwrap any gift, and delighted to find their favorite stuffed animal inside. Happy memories for me, but I don't think they really remember because they were quite young at the time. OP, I don't think you need a lot of expensive things. We always did Something you want Something you need Something to wear Something to read which can easily be gotten at the dollar and thrift stores even this late in the season. Best wishes for a happy holiday.
  6. If my endorphin levels are low, my ASMR lessens; sometimes it goes away altogether if it is low enough. I believe it is related to oxytocin levels/release. I was amazed that it has a name!
  7. I get an autonomous sensory meridian head-buzzy response to a lot of different stimuli, but a lot of the "ASMR" stuff on youtube doesn't do it for me and I don't go seeking it out.
  8. It seems to me that she could get visiting nurses to do her home care, or go to a skilled nursing facility if she needs more care than that. Please don't put off your own medical care on her behalf. Your husband does not have to do this - that's what paid professionals are for.
  9. Numbers are rising. 25% of new cases are under 18, but more than 75% of deaths are over 60. I'm masking while out in public, but I'd say less than 1/2 of the people in stores are masking or distancing. 200ish hospitalizations rn in this state with ~1.3 million population. Three cases in my dd's dance studio this week, and now all of the 12+under classes are cancelled until after Thanksgiving (including Nutcracker rehearsals for that age group). Just found out today the husband of one of my long-time friends has died of it; he was under 60.
  10. Another vote for Orgain Chocolate here, although they recently changed the formula and took out the acacia fiber so now I have to add that back into my smoothies.
  11. My ex wanted 50/50, but lived 2 hours away. It was misery for their entire childhood - they were never able to fully participate in any activity/work experience and missed out on a lot.
  12. I order 1-lb bags of Frontier Co-op herbs, spices, and baking extracts from my local food cooperative grocery store (health food store).
  13. Finish my dissertation. I'm about 1/2 way done, and the clock just keeps ticking away. I don't know why I seem to be sabotaging myself with this and other goals. I have all of these things I keep telling myself I need to complete first for other people in my family, and trying to put my house back together, so that I am not so distracted by this other stuff that I cannot concentrate. But whenever I cross things off that list, two more seem to take its place. I made the most progress last winter when I stayed up and worked on it from 10pm-4am in the silence and darkness, but I have been sleeping really well since then and don't have the gumption after every long day to get started on the next step. Guilt and despair over this nag at me all day every day in the back of my mind. Part of it is that I have lost my mojo for the topic - but really it is not about the topic anymore, it's about finishing; I know that the best dissertation is a done dissertation. Still, I cannot bring myself to begin the next step.
  14. nm Residential treatment sounds like the best place for her. I've known a teen much like your dd who has thrived in their residential program (and lost a lot of weight, too). Sounds like you may need to force the going-to-school issue in order to get the documentation you need to get a placement, though. One-hour per day of school doesn't really meet the letter of the law in terms of IDEA, either.
  15. I require(d) my home educated kids to do a gross motor activity of their choosing. Sometimes it was a sports team, other times it was fencing club or climbing gym. I hated gym class (PE) in school, but the requirements in many schools now allow an alternative such as sports participation or even dance classes outside of school to count for credit if a log and perhaps a research paper were included. A 5-paragraph essay per day seems excessive, but I'm sure it's meant to minimize the time a student is taking off from class. If my kid hated PE so much they were not participating when they were attending, and then avoiding class, I'd work with the school to find an alternative way to meet that credit requirement. Because physical education is a legal requirement in my state.
  16. DH and I got our Pfizer boosters, along with a flu shot in the other arm, on Friday. None of the shot placements were problematic. DH felt a little warm to the touch and slept all day on Saturday, only waking twice to eat (appetite not affected!). He also developed a bright red head and bib rash overnight Saturday and into Sunday, which sometimes happens when he is fighting an actual live virus. Otherwise, he was back to normal on Sunday. I had arm pain on Friday night that prevented me from sleeping until I took some Ibuprofen. On Saturday I felt a little fatigued and a bit achey, but dragged myself around for necessary errands from mid-morning until early afternoon before taking a four-hour nap. I went to bed at my normal time Saturday night, and woke in the middle of the night feeling feverish and achey; temperature was 99.5. After taking Ibuprofen I was able to fall asleep again, but half-woke several times in a puddle of sweat - yuck. Back to normal Sunday.
  17. I'd buy used appliances, of all different brands, in the correct color, for a steep discount, from craigslist or FB marketplace. They only need to last a year, right? You can donate or sell them to someone else as each of the ones you want arrive.
  18. I've never heard of "Among Us", so I have no idea what y'all are talking about, and figured OP misspelled the word which has been around for nearly a century.
  19. "suss /səs/ Learn to pronounce informal•British verb past tense: sussed; past participle: sussed realize or grasp (something). "he's sussed it" discover the true character or nature of. "I reckon I've got him sussed" Origin 1930s: abbreviation of suspect, suspicion." https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=to+suss+out+etymology
  20. On a couple of occasions I have had a facial swelling type of allergic reaction to MSG, but it was more like fluid under the tissue on a large part of my face. I also developed an allergy to my contact lenses a few years ago with the same symptoms you describe.
  21. My entire life. I vividly remember feeling like I was in the wrong time-period as a child. I don't have that sense as often anymore, but I still don't feel like I belong. DH and I have made an effort over the past couple of years to get out and meet people, and we've made some new friends (first couple-friends we've ever both connected with!) which has been fun. I guess this is the most I've ever fit in.
  22. Not necessarily for a writer, but a lover of literature... have you seen Litographs?
  23. Eagle also makes evaporated milk, which I use far more frequently than sweetened condensed? And I usually buy the store brand of either of those. If someone said, "Eagle Brand milk" I wouldn't know what they meant.
  24. It is so interesting that no-one has attempted to answer the question in the OP. Perhaps it was rhetorical? Sugar is more addictive than cocaine, so an uncontrolled sweet tooth is more an addiction than a craving. But salt cravings can indicate a nutrient deficiency, dehydration, a disorder such as Addison's, or even a kidney malfunction. If it's more salt-seeking than just scarfing a snack with abandon 🍿🤣, it may be worth keeping an eye on.
  25. Finding a good therapist can be difficult, and be aware that your dd's therapist may not see you due to confidentiality and trust issues it may bring into her relationship with your dd.
