  1. If you can handle the weather and the traffic, Conroe is a great place to homeschool. There are several homeschool groups in that area. MASH, THAT which is the teen group for MASH, Superfriends-another teen group, CACHE, PALS, these are the ones that I know of. The Woodlands, just south of Conroe, has lots to offer as well. You are next to Lake Conroe, Sam Houston National Forest, there is a new homeschool store near there, and every conceivable type of shopping and restaurant. Texas is very homeschool friendly. Lots of great learning opportunities abound. Edited to add. I see you would be coming from Wyoming. One thing that you will have to get used to is all the people. I try to get any running around done in the morning before noon, ie: grocery shopping, post office, especially anything to do with government offices like drivers license, tag, etc. It isn't nearly as crowded and you can breathe. I avoid going anywhere after noon. The stores are so crowded, you have to wade through the people. And during the summer, it is too hot to go out to do anything.
  2. I do. I have had this machine for a very long time. It just keeps a going. I do have it serviced and cleaned once in a while and it still does a great job. It is a light machine which I like. I had one of those monster Kirbys before.
  3. I have been leary about mailing out media mail lately. I have had three books lost last month that I was waiting for from PBS. This month has been better so far.
  4. We are in the exact same boat. He is almost as tall as I am and I am 6'. It won't be long before I have to look up to him.
  5. That looks like a great store. I don't think that I will make it for the grand opening, but I sure would like to get over there sometime soon. Even though I have everything I need for this year.:001_smile:
  6. If you are on the NW side of town, there is a nice ladies resale shop at Louetta and Champions Forest called Karen's Closet. She is in an upscale neighborhood and has some very nice dresses for great prices. Other than that I would second Goodwill. There is a Goodwill on FM1960 that is in the same upscale area that would be a good place to check out.
  7. I worked at a sandwich shop many years ago. We had to slice onions on a meat slicer, so you know what that would do. It would sling onion juice all over you and into the air. A guy that I worked with figured out a way to keep the juice out of his face. He wrapped his head in saran wrap, leaving room to breathe. I would not suggest that to anyone, but it was hilarious to watch back then.
  8. I got snuckered into buy a set of these several years ago and for less than that. Needless to say, I never used them and ended up selling them to a used bookstore for nothing. They looked really interesting at the time, but they were not useful for us. Not a good investment, you could buy a great encyclopedia set for that much money.
  9. Great idea! I was getting ready to order from MUS and didn't really want to pay that much for a box to put the rods in. I will have to check out the sporting goods section.
  10. If you check out the side bar, there are many songs about it!
  11. Just think what the look on a guys face would be....lol:w00t:
  12. My dad has false teeth and he kept knocking out a front tooth. He got tired of going in and having it put back in. So the next time one came out, he superglued it back in. It held better after that...Men ;)
  13. Wow, that is just something you are not going to be able to fill in. Talk about a pot hole!
  14. I use both PBS and Bookmooch as well. I have gotten some great books from both sites. I have been working on next years literature list and I find lots of books on both sites. I have more credits on Bookmooch than I do PBS. Credits are easier and quicker to get on BM. You get 1/10th credit just for listing a book and for receiving a book. You can buy credits on PBS also.
  15. I was born in Oklahoma, married a Texan when I was 19 and have lived in Texas since, going on 25 years. I consider myself a local to Houston and a transplant to Texas. I have lived here longer than I lived in OK. But my dd, who was born here in Houston, will remind me that I am still an Okie and not a real Texan.;) I, however, am a Texan in my heart. I don't want to live anywhere else. When I visit OK, it does not feel like home, even though all of my family are still there.
  16. California Seasoned Pepper is a must when I cook, as well as Mural of Flavor on the veggies. Just started using Sate, love it on chicken stir fry. Salsa Salad Seasoning and cumin are wonderful for guacamole. I just love going to their store, but I usually order online to keep myself under control. Also, once you get on the mailing list for the catalog, there is usually an offer for a free spice or money off deal on the cover of the magazine.
  17. Lake House (Loved this movie, tho it took three tries before we got a copy that wasn't scratched) The Forgotten Music and Lyrics The Proposal Evelyn My Life in Ruins Bride Wars
  18. It's snake season again. My cat had a nice size ribbon snake in the garage playing with it. It was about 15 inches long. I saved it from the cat and released it out behind the house away from the dog and cat. Hopefully he won't find a copperhead to play with next.
  19. I will whine with you. What a beautiful animal. I love reining horses, I had a colt of Risky Business about 20 years ago that I had high hopes for. But I lost him in a fire.
  20. My favorite magazines when I was a young horse nut are Western Horseman and Horse & Rider. These are western riding mags, but they have a lot of great info.
  21. "Get busy" "Get back to work" "Do your school work, Please!" I usually revolves around trying to get them to do school work. Both of mine are procrastinators.
  22. Lively Latin is going really well. That is one subject that my kids will do everyday without me hounding them about it.
