  1. Actually we have noticed some differences in a couple of movies. I think that some of them are Director cuts or they are not the movies that are edited for tv. We watched an old Conan movie and there some scenes that we had to fast forward over that I don't remember being in the tv version.
  2. Oh the memories, I used to have a large collection of Breyer model horses. But I went through a time in my life that I ended up selling all of them in a yard sale. Big mistake, but life goes on. Anyway, I have seen a collectors book on Breyer models that give details on each figurine that they have made, including some kind of value. I am not sure where you would find the book, maybe do a search for it. I just looked on Paperback Swap and if you do a search for Breyer, you can see several different editions of the Breyer Animal Collector's Guide: Identification and values" As far as where to sell them, I don't really know. Sorry can't help you there."
  3. I love green bean casserole. I have substituted cream of potato for the cream of mushroom for some extra veggies. I use the recipe on the back of the French's onion can, with reg. cut green beans. Maybe this year I will try it with the french cut.
  4. I like quinoa, very tasty. Very good with fish. My kids say that the red variety looks like red ants.:D At least it doesn't taste like red ants, I guess.
  5. Wow, I am so sorry. I burned myself with boiling water a couple of weeks ago, it was only three fingers but was very painful. Hope you get better soon, physically and mentally. I understand about the flash back, very nerve racking.:grouphug:
  6. Hi Alexandra, I save that much on food stuff and health & beauty items. The items that you buy each week will vary, some weeks are heavier on H&B, others weeks are food stuff. I went shopping on Sunday at Randall's, what I bought was mostly food stuff. I saved 64%. I bought: margarine oatmeal frozen veggies beef and chicken broth brown sugar canned veggies Nature Valley granola clusters cake mix frostings All name brand stuff. By using the Grocery Game, you work on building a stockpile. Buying items on your list at the lowest prices. Over time, you will build up a great stockpile and won't have to pay full price for most of the things that your family consumes. I have a huge supply of toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, bath soap, femine stuff, canned veggies, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, trash bags, laundry soap, cleaners, etc. You get the picture. Many of these items I got for free or for pennies on the dollar. Where are you in Texas? If you are close to Houston or can get Sunday papers from a big city, you will get great coupons. There is also a clipper service on GG that you can order coupons from if you can't get them where you are. There is a message board on GG and there are many members from the Houston area. From what I am seeing, Houston is one of the best places to do GG. The Houston Chronicle gets all of the best coupons. I have found that Krogers and Randall's offer the best deals. If you are a Walgreen's or CVS shopper, then you will really get some great deals especially on H&B items. You can get lots of free stuff by shopping these two places. My dh says that I have become obsessive about GG, but when you can feed your family and save lots of money doing it, yes I guess I am a little.:D
  7. I would go this route. At least for the peace of mind knowing that your mail won't be sitting out in the weather all day.
  8. What a great start. That is an amazing shopping trip. I hit two stores today, bought $186.29, out of pocket was $67.09. Saved $119.20. Don't you just love saving money? I hear good testimonies about Harris Teeter, we have Kroger, Randall's and HEB. Kroger and Randall's are the stores that I save the most money.
  9. Old Yeller Flicka Where the Red Fern Grows Homeward Bound A Little Princess - my dd's pick The saddest movie that I have ever watched was the Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I have never cried to hard in all my life. Very emotional movie, not recommended for young kids.
  10. Hope you are having a good day.

  11. I have a great soup recipe: Asian Big Bowl from Kosher by Design, Short on Time by Susie Fishbein 1/2 small head Napa cabbage, about 3/4 lbs. 1 small head bok choy 8 cups chicken stock 2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, sliced into very thin strips 1/4 cup grated carrot 1 packet of Ramen noodle (discard seasoning packet) 1 T Miron rice cooking wine (I exclude this) 2 T soy sauce 3 scallions, sliced very thin for garnish Thinly slice the cabbage and bok choy. Set aside. Pour the chicken stock into a medium pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Add the chicken, carrots, cabbage and bok choy. Simmer for 5 minutes or until chicken is done. Add ramen noodle and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the Mirin and soy sauce. Ladle into bowls. Garnish with sliced scallions. Of course you can substitue or be creative with the ingredients, but this is very tasty and my kids liked it.
  12. Bandit is very cute. Your dh comes home with a bunny. The only thing that my dh has come home with was a baby Texas Tarantula. My dd wanted to keep it,:001_huh: she named it Charlie. But we made her let it go. I didn't want to have a huge spider running around my house.
  13. I do. It only costs $10.00 for the first list store and $5.00 for each additional store. For me, I have three list stores, Kroger, Randall's and HEB. So it costs $20.00 which is billed each 8 weeks. So for $2.50 per week, GG gives me a list of the best deals for those three stores. By shopping the lists, I have been building my stockpile and saving anywhere from 50% to 75% on my purchases. I buy 3 - 4 Sunday papers each week to get several coupons which makes stockpiling quicker. There is also a forum that is another wealth of information. There is another site that is free, I haven't checked it out so I don't know anything about it. I think it is called couponmom.com or something like that.
  14. What a great deal. I have been going the Grocery Game since April and I love it when you get stuff for free or for pennies on the dollar. My dh calls me the coupon queen around our house. The kids know that we don't buy much of anything unless there is a coupon.:D
  15. This is the recipe that I use most: 4 1/2 cup bread flour 1 T Yeast 1 t salt 1 cup warm water 1/4 cup oil 1/4 honey 2 eggs It will make a large loaf in the machine or you can use the dough setting, remove the dough and make two loaves in bread pans.
  16. Don't you hate when that happens. :D I like Falafel and stuffing it into pita is about the only way I know to eat it.;)
  17. We are using Rainbow Science and I will say that it is the first science program that we have stuck with. The kids really like doing the labs. I like it because they give you almost everything that you need to do the labs. Anything that you have to add is very easy to get, like distilled water.
  18. I voted for LL since that is what we are using. I broke down and bought the hard copy in the binder. Since I have two kids I need to make copies anyway so I just pull the pages out of the binder and make two copies, saving the original. I like having the book handy for reference. My kids are doing the work independently and they really like. It is usually the first thing that they work on. We didn't have any Latin background before starting LL, but it is going very well and the kids are learning so much.
  19. Congrats. We also managed to finish Greek Myths, but we didn't finish Black Ships Before Troy. Maybe next time. The kids just couldn't get into it. Neither could I.
  20. I bet Goodwill was really 'thankful' for that donation....:tongue_smilie:
  21. We have that problem here too. Its like they think that those lines are just suggestions anyway. Especially on curves.
  22. Hey, That would be me. We are using Trism's HM this year. I like that it can be a very literature based approach to learning history. It is not totally secular, there are references to church history. But that can be skipped. It is not pertinent to the lesson plan. I have used Sonlight in the past and my kids seem to retain more information when they read the great books. I have incorporated some of Sonlight's books from Cores 5, 6 & 7 as additional reading material. Trism's gives you a list of books for each time frame. There is also a great resource called "Reading Through the Ages" that you can get that lists even more books according to time periods. HM is a world history overview. It does move quickly through some areas that I had wanted to spend more time on. Like Roman history for example, but I have to remember that this will get covered again in next year and in more depth. One other point that I have heard and read about Trism's, is that if you don't do HM and go right into DAW that it can be very overwhelming. By doing HM first, you learn how to do the research and learn how Trism's works. Since you ds is in the 8th grade, I would think the HM would be a great fit. It would give him the tools that he will need for the upper levels. Trisms's is great to learn how to do research. Each week is scheduled out for you and is relatively easy to follow. It includes LA aside from the IEW, but it is more complete when you couple the two together. The IEW program to learn the writing skills is very good. HM covers some science, mostly related to the inventions, scientists or explorers studied that week. There are vocabulary words covered that are related to each weeks topic. Overall I am very pleased with Trism's HM. I will most likely take more than one year to get through it, but not quite two years. Which is an option. I am working towards making my kids more independent by the time they are ready for DAW and on. Trism's is set up to be done independently and if you ds catches on to the process, he can just take off. I may not have covered everthing, if you have any questions, please pm me and I will be glad to help. I would also like to recomend Rainbow Science as an option. We are doing this also and my kids love it. It is the first science curriculum that we have stuck with. Just to give you something else to ponder.;)
