  1. I want to know who was the one person that clapped at the end of her "speech"? Totally sad and "free".
  2. I have several Krogers close by. They will double up to $.50 and triple up to $.39. I get my best saving shopping at Krogers and playing the Grocery Game.
  3. We have lived in Houston for over 20 years. I am a tranplanted Okie and my dh is born and bred Texan. Houston is an extremely diverse city. I have lived on the east side - Yuk!! Very industrial and polluted and stinky. Pasadena's nickname is Stinkadena. We lived in Clear Lake City on the south side. Beautiful area, but lots of people for the area, very congested. It is close to Galveston though. We have lived on the northwest side between 290 and 249 for the last 13 years and it is the most desirable area for us. My dh works for HP and thier facility is on 249. Once you learn how the highways go, Houston is very easy to get around. That is as long as you don't mind the traffic. It is very important to know how to merge into traffic and drive like a bat out of h*ll. The trick is knowing when to do your traveling. It will take a while to get used to the heat or at least to be able function in it. But having mild winters is great. Oh, and living on the northwest side of town makes it easier to evacuate if a hurricane is headed your way. This I know for a fact. (Rita)
  4. How about Deborah? http://www.biblical-baby-names.com/meaning-of-deborah.html This is a great site to check out names and thier meanings.
  5. Here is their address, I don't have any phone numbers. The Book Samaritan 1715 Grandview Pawhuska, OK 74056
  6. Papa John's is pretty good pizza. We don't do much in the way of carry out/delivery pizza these days. I usually make my own using pizza crusts by Momma Mary's and making a simple sauce and added my toppings. But back when we did get delivery it was Papa John's.:D
  7. here is my little list. I just mailed nine books out this morning. http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/members_books.php?m=dnhic1B3UHFJWVk9 I am under the same nickname on PBS and Boochmooch
  8. For sure. I didn't get my garden in on time and it got too hot. My garden is a sad site. I am hoping to keep it alive through summer and maybe get some fall tomatoes from it.
  9. I use some Shelf Cube storage from Target, search for item: B001TILK2Y and use some canvas collapsible cubes similar to these: B000LRDTSW They are available in shorter sizes that fit into the two shelf cube above. The cubes are stackable as well.
  10. Natural Bridge is a great cavern to visit. There is a lot of walking including up steep grades. And a few tight places. But it is worth the money. There is another cavern just north on I-35 at Georgetown. http://myinnerspacecavern.com/ This one is not as big as Natural Bridge but is another nice cavern to see. We really enjoyed both of these sites.
  11. Thanks for the suggestion, I just requested it on PBS I am also requesting, "No Promises in the Wind" by Irene Hunt. Sounds like another good book.
  12. That poor girl. Bless those that are working to give her a healthy life. We will see what we can go to help.
  13. I have had two incidents at a local Kroger store which involved me ending up with someone else's groceries in my basket. The first time I notice I had a bag of bananas and I hadn't bought any bananas. I recognized the woman that was in front of me still loading her groceries in her car. I walked over and asked her if the bananas were her's. She was grateful that I got them back to her, she said that her kids would have been very disappointed that she didn't have the bananas. The second time, I got home before I realized that I had a bag with two boxes of oatmeal in them. I didn't buy any oatmeal. So I called the store to let them know that I had some groceries that were not mine. I figured the person that had bought them would be calling the store about their shortage and I wanted the store know that the person was being truthful. The store told me just to bring them back on my next trip, which I did. I try to be very honest, but I will admit that I haven't always lived up to that expectation. I have slipped up on a couple occasions, but I am working to improve.:D
  14. I like the word Shalom, it is very peaceful and a wonderful greeting. Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) is a Hebrew word meaning peace, completeness, and welfare and can be used idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye. As it does in English, it can refer to either peace between two entities (especially between man and God or between two countries), or to the well-being, welfare or safety of an individual or a group of individuals. (source Wikipedia) 22 - That was my number when playing basketball and softball in high school, it is my favorite number. :001_smile:
  15. I love this recipe, it is from an old Betty Crocker book. I have tweeked it a little. Stuffed Peppers 4 Medium Red Bell Peppers 1 lb Ground beef 1/3 cup chopped onion 1 - 7 1/2 oz can diced tomatoes 1/3 cup rice (not cooked) 1 T Worchestershire sauce 1/2 t basil or oregeno 1/2 cup shredded American cheese (2 oz) Cut top off of peppers (discard stem and chop top portion and add to meat mixture), remove seeds and membranes. Immerse peppers into boiling water for 3 minutes. Remove and sprinkle insides with salt. Invert onto paper towels to drain. In skillet or medium pan, cook meat and onion until done, drain fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, uncooked rice, Worchestershire sauce, basil, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 t salt and pepper. Bring to boiling, reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes or till rice is tender. Stir in 1/4 cup of cheese. Place peppers upright in 8x8 baking dish, fill peppers with meat mixture. Place any remaining mixture around peppers in the pan. Bake in a 375 deg. oven for about 15 minutes or till heated through. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Let stand 1 to 2 minutes, serve. The recipe originally called for green peppers, but I like using the red bell peppers much better. They have a sweet flavor.
  16. But use a square cookie tin. My father told us the story of when his mom would send him cookies overseas in a round tin. Needless to say, he had to eat the cookies with a spoon. Apparently the mail service likes to roll the round packages.:D
  17. No Thank you. We have moved 4 times in the last two years. I have had enough. I am hoping that we won't move again for a long time. But being married to a gypsy doesn't give me any guarantees.:D I feel for you though. We did the purge thing a couple of moves ago and it does make for much easier and quicker moves after that.
  18. Have you seen "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long? Nough said. BTDT. We bought a house on 5 acres. The house was not really livable, but we lived in it. We were going to remodel it...:001_huh:. We did not know what we were getting ourselves into. I had to do most of the work except for the stuff that was just too much for one person, like jackhammering up the master shower floor. We went the way of ripping out everything that we were going to replace. I took out the castiron bathtub with a sledge hammer by my self. It like to killed me. We worked on that house for about two years, I won't do that again. I am too old for that kind of labor. We have a different house now, it needs some updating but nothing that has to be done right away. We will tackle these projects one at a time.
  19. As a person who does not have a pp account, I appreciate it when someone will accept a MO. I always specify that I will send a PO/MO and I mail it out promptly and I pay for the MO via debit card or cash. I also comunicate with the seller at each point. That way everyone knows what is going on. To me comunication is the most important thing. Nothing aggrevates me more than trying to buy or sell something and the other party does not respond to pm's or posts to their thread. I have tried to purchase product from some members that don't comunicate well. When I come across those, I give them ample time to respond and then I move on. It's like a big red flag to me.
  20. Keep me posted. My dh has the tv remote and lets just say he passes it every so often in his surfing.;)
  21. add chopped onion and tomato, cumin, salt and pepper to taste. or just add some picante sauce, that would spice it up some.
