From New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/technology/facebook-privacy.html “The special arrangements are detailed in hundreds of pages of Facebook documents obtained by The New York Times. The records, generated in 2017 by the company’s internal system for tracking partnerships, provide the most complete picture yet of the social network’s data-sharing practices. ... Facebook allowed Microsoft’s Bing search engine to see the names of virtually all Facebook users’ friends without consent, the records show, and gave Netflix and Spotify the ability to read Facebook use

Does it seem to anyone else that the DVD part of NetFlix has gone downhill? I recently got notified that they can’t ship “When Harry Met Sally†at all! How you could not have disks for a movie like that? It also seems to me that it is much more common that movies in my queue have a “very long wait†status that doesn't go away.

Edited to add new links: Netflix Academy Quote: "With all of this in mind, I’ve decided to embark on a yearlong project to identify the best streaming videos available to teach core content to early elementary-school children. I’ve started with Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Sequence as my guide to the essential content that all children should know;..." If you scroll down the article there is a list of subjects (Science, Literature, U.S. History, and World History) and sub-topics. I was doing a little housekeeping in my netflix queue and I discovered that three of my live-streaming items have an "until 6/1/13" date in the notes. One is a pretty old series (Slings and Arrows), and none are particularly popular (another one is a 2009 documentary and it's been in my queue for over a year). I can't seem to find anything about it on their website. Does anyone know what that's all about?

How many items in your Netflix instant streaming queue?
Erica in OR posted a topic in The Chat Board
Feeling a little frivolous and a little curious. Ours has recently been edging up, nearing 80. Erica in OR -
Is there a way to search for topics in only the documentaries? For example, if I want to find a video that explains chemical bonds, I must wade through all the search results that include James Bond and other unrelated adult movie titles. (There are also a lot of movies with 'chemical' in the title that have nothing to do with chemistry!) Is there a way to restrict my search?

Would anyone else be interested in having a Netflix and an Ipad App sticky either here or in K-8 (or both) so we can list the apps and shows/documentaries that we've found to be educational and fun, and/or interesting. I think that if there is enough interest, we could ask the mods if they would pin them for easier access. I haven't seen Netflix mentioned as often lately, but I know I've seen a lot of Ipad app posts come and go in the recent past. Poll to come, if I can figure out how to do it.

We needed a break and so I hit up Netflix for some science. We have enjoyed many, many animal shows. Currently, the Deadly Dozen is pretty cool! Anyhoo, just thought I'd throw that out there!

The kids were begging to have Netflix again, and so last night I renewed our subscription. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they selection has improved, in my opinion. So what was the first thing we watched? Justin Bieber's movie, lol. It was actually really good. I cried. He seems like a sweet kid, and two of my daughters want to marry him. I just wanted to get your recommendations for some things we can watch. I already saw that they have tons of National Geographic specials, including one about Alaska. Since that's where my brother is stationed, we will definitely watch

when the post office stops offering next day delivery and has all their cut backs? I really wonder how this will effect DVD shipping. And yes, I know many of you don't do the DVD portion so it won't effect you at all. Dawn

We started getting netflix almost a month ago, and I have never once gotten it to work right. Every time I try to use it on my laptop, it will stream for about thirty seconds, and then it gets extremely choppy, showing single frames instead of a video. Completely unwatchable, obviously. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing has helped. I've tried different browsers, updated Silverlight... I have no idea what to do next. This happens on every single video they have. At my mom's house, though, I can use my account on their wifi tv with no problems. Help, please!!! Thanks!

I am looking for movies about the middle ages for my DC, ranging in age from 6-12. They need to be clean, and I have one really sensitive kid, so it has to be pretty mild. We have watched Ever After, and it does show amazing costumes, and a little about what life may have been like. This is the kind of thing I am looking for. Are there any out there?

Netflix is now limiting streaming on more than one device :glare:. http://mashable.com/2011/09/06/netflix-movie-stream-limits/ As they say in the article, TV shows don't seem to be affected. I hope this continues to be the case. My daughter had bad dreams after watching Doctor Who a few months ago, so no longer joins the rest of us when we watch. Last night, we watched DW, while she watched Madeline on my computer in the bedroom. We didn't get an error. We haven't tried movies. Netflix is starting to get on my last nerve.

Netflix feels the pain of cancellations!
Samiam posted a topic in General Education Discussion Board
Ha! Glad they got my message! I am one of those that cancelled the DVD portion, as much as it hurts my Dexter addiction.:tongue_smilie: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Price-Hike-Sends-Netflixs-nytimes-985924951.html?x=0&.v=1 -
Looking for some new ideas, for his screen-time. What do your kids this age like? Particularly your boys? Semi-educational is a bonus. :) We've worked our way through CyberChase and some of Liberty Kids. Merlin was a big hit. He likes Star Trek, too, but that's because he has a closet Trekkie for a Mom (oops, just outed myself). Any fresh ideas would be appreciated.

Just got an email from Netflix....grrr. Now they are changing their prices again.. We had moved to the lowest plan, to get one DVD at a time and still Instant streaming...$7.99. Now they will charge it seperately...$7.99 for Instant streaming....and $7.99 for One DVD out at at time....so $15.98. Hmm...going to have to think REALLY hard about this Netflix business now. Not to mention how frustrating it is sometimes to get the movies we want. We have United Streaming (Discovery Education), use Hulu, have DirecTV so we can order movies when they are released to DVD, and sh

I am not really using my Netflix because their search function stinks! I want to fill up our queue this summer with lots of History Channel or cool science type things, documentaries, etc.-really anything that could be considered educational. My dc are 11 and 8 and I really want to stretch them in this way and spark some different fields of interest-we don't have cable and I think they'd enjoy some engaging educational dvds. If there is already a thread on this, could you please link me? I've seen some of the "chronological history" Netflix threads, but nothing just in general. Thanks!

After doing a thread search, I have found book lists for SOTW4, but no video lists (Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, library, etc.). Does anyone already have a list--or partial list--of video recommendations? Thanks!!! :001_smile:

So how do you have yours set up? It seems pretty pitiful to me the way it is done. I had it set for R and below - pretty liberal, and Bud and I couldn't watch Arrested Development on the Roku last night after the kids went to bed. I went in and changed the setting on our account, but then it said it would take up to 8 hours to change on the instant viewing devices! I really don't want all of Netflix available to my kids, but I don't want to have to plan 8 hours in advance to watch something with my husband that we normally wouldn't let the kids watch. Is there a better way?

Here is the link to the pdf document with links to Netflix! The list as well as other SOTW resources are on my blog: http://runofthemillfamily.blogspot.com/ It only took me three full days of calling off school for sick kids, sitting them in front of the TV and hogging the computer!! lol! I'll do volume two....in the fall! lol! I would love to hear about any broken links etc- I plan on continuing to edit and update. And I'll take further movie suggestions for volume ONE at this time!!
