  1. I am replying now to bump you and to mark this because I can ask Dd what brand in the morning. They sell little square cubes of dry colors. They fit in a special box. The starter sets are fairly reasonable and can be custom selected for a bit more. You can simply replace them as they are used up. According to dds art teacher the student quality is great, she doesn't pay for the professional quality for herself. If no one posts the brand name I will add it in the morning!
  2. We have used both NEM and Discovering Math. NEM is harder to coordinate. I am always hunting for the proper book for each part. I think Dd preferred it to the Discovering Math though. She requested switching back for year 4. The Discovering Math has a lot of problems. Very good problems but plentiful. Dd finally requested to not do them all. That was a big deal for her because she has never skipped problems in any math book in the past. I would use the placement exam. My initial response is he should start with the first book because the algebra is mixed with geometry. I hope this helps.
  3. I took his last name. My last name was a comman German name but with odd spelling. It was a relief to have a plain old British last name. Hyphenation sounded dreadful. Now we live in England I am really glad. We blend in beautifully namewise. Like Faith I spent a lot of time changing my SS number. The last time I renewed my US drivers license it was discovered that the change had never been properly completed. They took my tax money for almost 20 years without complaint but due to new laws wouldn't give me a drivers license.:glare:
  4. A friend rented a small retail or office space years ago and then went there for school. Her dd is autistic and many of the therapist went there as opposed to their home. I think she liked it but it was for the one year she did home ed. We have done school in many different locations. Parks, hotels, cars, etc. The hardest part for me is getting my son to concentrate in the park. He would rather run and play!
  5. You do not need to stop but when you want to stop one normal pumping session then give your body a week to adjust. Then cut another one. When you get to the last one express in the shower a couple of times. Some milk will probably hang around a while. But not enough to cause discomfort.
  6. I would print a copy of the laws their dogs are violating. Tape it to their door if they won't answer with a note that you will follow these laws. Worked for us.
  7. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I know you have pneumonia. Has the medication started to work better? I hope no one else has it. I thought it was hard to catch. Anyway I hope everyone feels better soon!
  8. The only extra I can think of are onesies. I have no clue how to spell that.
  9. Tan suit in my dvds--3 years old. Dd loved the dvds for the first course. I was on a economy kick for the second half. No dvds and no problems with the course as explained in the text. My ds hated the first half. Won't do the second. Adores Fallacy Detective. Personally I thought the dvds were really boring but explained really well. If you are nervous about the course I would get them.
  10. Many of my home ed friends in real life are not married. The thing that amazes me is when they speculate on who or what type of man their dd's will marry. I have even had conversations with the male half of these couples-- they are very conventional when it comes to their daughters!:lol
  11. This is simply curiosity but is it a Russian superstition? My mil said any thing she could think of to get her own way. This sounds like one of her lines. Traditions and superstitions suited her purposes.
  12. We have always loved SL science. My ds used to sit and watch the discover and do Dvds whenever he could. They loved science when they were little because of SL. It also allowed me to be pretty hands off. They knew what to do and had good safety instructions. I could sit another room and listen while they learned a lot.
  13. Another easy option would be the counter service restaurant downstairs at the Polynesian. We only get Dole Whips there but the food looked OK. I can't remember what they have but Dole whips are the best.:001_smile:
  14. What beautiful work! We have been told that hairspray can work as a fixative also. Haven't tried it. For shipping we have used padded envelope 's and cardboard taped in front and back. So far it has worked well.
  15. We use the fire quite a bit for school. It is the easiest way to access the internet at our house. We use it as a general foreign language dictionary, to google things that come up in lessons, as a e reader(Fallacy Detective free from prime). We use it for science all the time. I love being able to call up great microscope slides and go over them. I have several pdf's which are easy to access where ever we are--we travel a lot. The kids love to study using quizlet. It makes it much easier to be spontaneous and go where they are interested. I love it!
  16. If you have to say something this would be my choice. I love nutbunnies! Good luck!:grouphug:
