  1. Does anyone use a kindle fire in school? Are you able to find good readers on it? Is it worth joinging the Amazon Prime club? What else do you use it for in school? :bigear::lurk5::bigear:
  2. Here's GeekDad's review: DragonBox: Algebra Beats Angry Birds I went through the first couple levels before handing it off. My short review: This is what educational apps should be like. Why aren't there more? One child is playing it on our tablet, the other on my phone. They're having a ball comparing their dragons.
  3. I've been hearing so much about Stack the States lately! I wish it was available for Androids. Does anyone know of anything similar for Android? Or any other really great Android apps?
  4. I thought it might make sense to have a thread where we could put all of the Kindle Fire reviews, including those from professionals and from WTM boardies. It seems that the professional reviewers received their Kindle Fires last week and the reviews are starting to happen. For reference, here is a link to the Kindle Fire Main Page. Also, here is Amazon's Getting Started with Kindle Fire page. If you want to see what apps are available for Kindle Fire, you can see them in the Amazon Appstore for Android. Amazon has even enabled it so that you can run many of the apps found there righ
  5. I thought perhaps we could maintain a thread to keep track of free apps for the Kindle Fire as they become available. That way we will be less likely to miss good deals on apps. I would say there is no need to post here every day, since most of the apps are not great, but if you grab something then please assume that others here may be interested in the same thing. I have tagged this thread with 'kindle fire' and 'android apps' so you should be able to find it easily in the future by doing a tag search for either one of those terms. Also, this would be a good place to put other freebies
  6. I just ordered a Samsung Galazy Tablet....I am so excited.... any suggestions for free or low cost APPS for it....for homeschool (I have a preschool and a pre-k) and for me?
  7. Dh decided that the tablet he bought isn't as useful for his business as he had hoped so he's giving it to DS for Christmas. I know there are a lot of good Ipad apps but anyone know any good Android apps. DS loves math, science, and history facts. Angry birds is already on it.
  8. My brother bought me the following item:http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Iconia-A100-07u16u-7-Inch-Tablet/dp/B005EOYZ7Q for Christmas. I already own a laptop and a Kindle so what would I use this item for. I basically use the internet for this forum, occasional FB, Pintrest, googling and watching Netflix. My email is Microsoft something or other connetted directly to my computer so it wouldn't be practical to check it on-line nor do I see a need to. I have an ereader on my computer but do not use it as I have a Kindle. I do use Word a lot but all of my docs are on my laptop so I am not sure wha
  9. One of the things I really like about the iPads is that we can purchase an app once and then use it on all of the iPads or other iOS devices tied to our account, up to a maximum of 10. To my knowledge, there is no such concept of sharing apps available from Google's Android Market. But now we have two Kindle Fires arriving today and I realize that both will be tied to the same account in a similar way to how the iPads are tied to the same AppleID. So I'm wondering if Amazon didn't just create the Amazon Appstore for Android to restrict and monitor the content of their store, but perhaps t
  10. I have an iPod Touch, and had planned to go with an iPhone when I upgraded, but looking at the plan options and the prices led me to choose an android phone instead. So, instead of just being able to put my favorite iPod apps on an iPhone, I have to start over. Does anyone have any favorites that they use? My thought is that the iPod will become officially part of our school supplies, while the android will replace it as the "carry around town" available on demand device.
  11. Just got a new android phone and so of course one of the first things I want to add is a library database app. I don't want to waste a load of time adding books and then discover I'm using a lesser app! So I'm here to seek the wisdom of the hive - what do you love? (and feel free to tell me about any other must have apps whilst you're here ;-). )
  12. I just found a small handful of threads on Droid apps, but I'd love to get a fresh response. My Droid will be here on Tuesday. (Blackberry died last night. RIP, friend!) I've looked at a couple of library apps with good reviews, but I can't tell - Would any allow me to make categories of school books I have for the future, school books we use now, and school books we have saved for the younger kids, in addition to wish lists (which I'd love to further break down into school years!)? Also looking for tips on apps for groceries, household, finances... I'm sure I can find plenty of fun,
  13. and all the latest apps, could you tell me some of the things you use it for on a regular basis beside checking email and FB? I recently upgraded to a new phone and would like to get the most use out of it. It seems to do everything, but many features I've never had a reason to use since my old phone couldn't do any of that. I would love to hear what you've found to be helpful whether it's accessing the news or listening to music. Right now I'm a little overwhelmed by all the options and feeling like I should have just stayed with my old phone.
  14. What do you use? I've added so many that I think I'll use but keep forgetting they are there! I love Drink Water Beta. It's a widget and I hve it on my front page to help me keep track of how many glasses of water I drink. I use Lookout for security and for the just in case my phone goes missing I can send an alarm. Tried it .. wow that thing really works! I use Pure Calendar widget ... have it on my home page to see a list of everything going on this week. It syncs to my Google calendar...which I only use now because I can enter things fast and they show up on my phone!
  15. Is anyone using a smartphone application for remembering birthdays and anniversaries that they would recommend to others? I'm using an Android phone, but I'm also interested in hearing about iPhone applications, since many of those are migrating to Android. One issue on Android is that birthdays and anniversaries are supported online, but not yet on the handset. I'm hopeful that this will be rectified on an upcoming release. Does iPhone store these dates in the contacts on the phone or is there a privacy concern with doing this? TIA!
  16. Gee, this looks kinda cool - and it's FREE right now! http://www.mycardstar.com/ So i downloaded..... but don't own a device! LOL!!
  17. Like many of yours, our homeschool library has become very extensive. Similarly, like many of you, we have rearranged our books quite a few times. We plan to have our bookcase arrangement perfected just after our youngest child graduates! :D But I wanted to have a discussion about cataloging our books. We purchased Readerware and a scanner some years ago based on a recommendation that MomsintheGarden received here, IIRC. It's a nice program, but we never made it past about 1000 books before we lost our way. There were a few issues that hampered our use of that tool. Recently, I've t
