  1. :iagree: The first thing I thought of was how the Holy Spirit was fully in you. What a blessing even if you weren't looking for it or believe. FWIW, I don't see any problem attending a variety of church services. My sister actually had a class in college that involved doing this. The services were followed by open round-table discussions with the rabbi, priest, pastor, etc. afterward. She said it was one of the most amazing experiences in her life, and it actually led her closer to God.
  2. Not possible here that I've found! There's always some sort of man-made noise occurring. Some days, I feel as if I'm going to lose my mind!
  3. On top of all that were mentioned which I whole-heartedly agree with, I'd like to add: Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom The Little Engine that Could Green Eggs and Ham Owl Moon
  4. .... head on over to the park during the day because it's finally sunny and somewhat warm. .... run around to release energy whenever necessary. .... have your favorite snacks at your fingertips whenever you feel hunger or thirst. .... go out to lunch with your dad in the city just because he feels like having us visit him.
  5. Boston is great! I miss living so close to it. I don't really have anything to add since you've already received the recommendations I would have given... do eat in the North End though. The Italian food there is wonderful and so is the atmosphere! Enjoy your trip!
  6. I'm 36, and I've been dealing with this for over 6 months now. My thyroid has been checked, received a clean bill of health in other areas. My ob/gyn thinks it's related to hormones, so I've been on birth control for 3 months (also to help extremely heavy periods). I'm still waking up drenched most nights. I was actually thinking this morning that I should call my dr. again to see what's happening to me. I asked if I could be perimenopausal, and she said she doubted it due to my family history. I'm not convinced, however.
  7. Reassure your husband that we don't mind at all because we're all struggling with our homes and the "mess" of homeschooling! :D
  8. I don't use it personally, but my close friend does for her son, and they are loving it. I wish I had looked into it originally as it appears to be an excellent program. Glad you're enjoying it!
  9. Oh my! It could have been much worse! I'm glad you are okay! I guess it's time for a new deck... :grouphug:
  10. I came across this in the RR catalog and just downloaded the demo. It looks pretty good, and ds was engaged immediately. Does anyone have children that enjoy this?
  11. I'm trying to figure out which way I want to take reading next year. My son will be in 2nd grade, but he reads at a 4th grade level. He reads often, but we really haven't done reading as a subject this year. I wanted to do a reading notebook as WTM says, but we just never get it done. We also read aloud to him every night before bed and sometimes during the day. So, for next year, I was thinking maybe I should have him do something like CLE? Yet, part of me thinks it would be more fun if we did Progeny Press guides or another type of literature guide. I just want to make sure it gets done beyond just the actual reading - ie. knowing literary terms, comprehension, etc. I fear if I don't have a curriculum to guide *me* then I'll let it fall by the wayside again. I guess I'm looking for thoughts about both routes. I know many of you love CLE - is that all you've used? If you've gone the lit. guide route, what is that like for you? Do you have a particular favorite & why? Have you tried both routes, and chosen one, or ditched them both, and why? If you've ditched them, what do you do instead? I'm open to all information right now so I can make sure we get reading done. Thanks!
  12. My small group is finishing up Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow tomorrow night. I have gleaned so much insight from it, and so many different scriptures are studied through this little book.
  13. :iagree: Dh and I sang the anthem after the hockey team received their medals. Ds was looking at us like we were crazy. Lots of my family is originally from Canada, and Dh's family still lives near Toronto. We love Canada here!
  14. We just started the multiplication chapter into which you're heading. Before we started, however, I had us stop for a couple of weeks, and all we did was practice addition and subtraction facts. We did this through drill, flashcards, dice games, and the Cool-math.com website. I didn't feel the +/- facts were cemented enough with ds, and I wasn't comfortable introducing mulitiplication (albeit very introductory) without him having a faster response time to +/-. Just those 2 weeks helped him tremendously. He had not used manipulatives or a number line since last year though.
  15. Thanks for checking in Mrs. Mungo! I've been thinking about you. Glad to hear you are in a safe area.
  16. This really resonated with us. I'm currently reading Hold On to Your Kids, and I'm really liking it as well.
  17. Educational puzzles - Ravensburger makes some - Ds is working on the skeletal system right now. Flashcards, independent reading, maybe a craft of some sort, educational videos, critical thinking workbooks, mazes, tangrams...
  18. We have it on our Roku too, and we love it also! Ds will say, "I'm in the mood to listen to music - time for Pandora!" He even had me set up a kid's station & he's really enjoying his own "channel".
  19. :iagree: My first thought was anything you could do to help her get some sleep.
